The advice given to Alines from Australia upcoming trip to YNP & RMNP has been quite helpful to me, but I could still use some help with my itinerary for travel this August. I was planning to drive from Estes Park to Yellowstone on I-25 to Casper, 20/25 to Shoshoni, 120 to Cody & enter through the east gate. I have 1 night in Cody then 3 nights of lodging in YNP & 2 days inside GTNP & 1 in Jackson. I have 2 children 5 & 11 who love animals & the outdoors in general & I'm wondering if I am allowing enough time in these 2 National Parks. I was planning the return to DEN (where I will fly out) through Rock Springs then Hwy. 80 to Cheyenne, with a stop in Encampment. Anu suggestions/ comments on these routes and interesting things to do with children along the way would be very much appreciated.

Your trip sounds good, enough time in both parks. Of course you can always spend more time! Day 1 will be long driving day ... stop along the way in Casper for lunch. I have not been on the Casper to Cody route since I was a kid, so can't help much! You may want to visit the museums in Cody, at least for a few hours.

In the national parks have the kids do the Junior Ranger program. Fun for kids and they get a badge/patch when they finish.

Another route to Encampment would be to drive US Hwy26/287 through Dubois and Lander to Rawlins WY. I like that drive. Plenty of stops along the way Bighorn Sheep Center, Sinks Canyon State Park.

We drove from Cody to Casper for lunch then to Cheyenne before we flew out of Denver home in June. There is not a lot to do or see between Cody and Casper except Thermapolis and the Wind Canyon area. In fact there was only one rest stop until we got to Casper and ate lunch.
