Hi

This is our first visit to the Greek Islands and we have really pushed the boat out. My husband and I have chosen a few locations and are travelling between the islands by ferry. We arrive in Santorini(Thira Port) at 11.30 am and are staying at the Honeymoon Petra Villas in Imerovigli (the hotel on the cliff).

What is the best mode of transport from the port at this time and a rough idea of cost? Taxi?

We are coming in August and are only staying for a couple of nights so we want to make sure we have a good time. We like nice restaurants and see that La Maltese has been recommended a few times. Would you recommend booking. What type of food does it serve?

A taxi from the port to Imerovigli will cost around 20 euro. You can also take the port bus into Fira for 1.6 euro each and then catch the next bus to Oia for 1.2 euro each which makes a stop at the top of the hill in Imerovigli. I think the hotel will also offer a transfer which would include someone to carry your bags.

La Maltese: "Mediterranean cuisine based on the seasonal products of the sea and land of Santorini."

In August booking reservations in advance for La Maltese would be a very good idea.

Thank you brotherleelove. We are really looking forward to our trip and want to get the most out of it. Do you know anything about Oia? I think I have read on a previous post that it is approximately 8 miles away from Imerovogli. Do you think it would be worth a visit on one of our evenings? if so are there any restaurants there you could recommend.

Thanks Again

If you go to Santorini and DONT go to Oia you will be arrested and sent back to see it before you leave :-) Its the most beautiful town on the island and probably in all the Greek islands. So please do go.

Though no need to join the ludicrous scrum in Oia to see the sunset there is a great view FROM Imerovigli of the sunset OVER Oia.

It should be the first place you go, before doing any of the other 'touristic things' such as volcano /'hot' springs visit, blak sand beaches, winery etc.

Oia is 6 miles from Imerovigli. Without a doubt go there, it's the most beautiful village on the island.

If you want to go there for a meal at sunset go to the Kastro Restaurant at the top of the steps leading down to Amoudi Wharf. If you want to have lunch go to Katina's on Amoudi Wharf. Other excellent restaurants include Karma, Feredini, Ambrosia, Ambrosia & Nectar, 1800 and Papagalos, all upscale gourmet restaurants. More traditional restaurants include Laokasti, Skala, Thomas Grill, Roka, Anemomilos Hotel, Thalami and Neptune.

We are going to be staying at Honeymoon Petra in July but our transfer from the airport is arranged through our tour company. I know the hotel has a private shuttle bus which I assume they use to transport guests in. Not sure if you have the link to their website but it has contact details on. Send them an email to enquire about getting from the port. I'm sure they would pick you up. I know they answer emails quickly as I have emailed them a few times with quick responses.
