We are arriving Nov 2 after a cruise and are staying until the 6th. We are looking at Embassy Suites and Marriot Courtyard.

Embassy is cheaper and I like the idea of free breakfast (we are bringing our 16year old son) and Manager's hour (for me after 11 days of sharing hotel room and then cruise stateroom with dh and ds I am going to need a few drinks ;D ).

We are renting a car so will be driving around the island so beachfront is not too important. How far of a walk is it from Embassy to the beach?? Is it through busy streets??

Any tips on local restaurants within the area?? Not a huge fan of chains but love to find a few hidden gems that don't advertise in the tourist mags.

Thanks :)

We are so looking forward to Puerto Rico and to be honest I am more excited about PR then I am the cruise !

Hi there...we are in San Juan from Aug 3-12 and staying our first 2 nights in SJ at the Embassy..also with a 16 yr old. We have never been let down by Embassy and we too love the free breakfast and drinks.

After I come back, I will let you know what I thought of it. Actualy, I can post here on Aug 5 once we leave SJ to our condo.

We are staying at the Embassy right now. We stay at Embassy Suites with our kids for the breakfast and seperation of rooms, oh and the drinks! It's very nice - We are walking down to the beach today - about a block or two, not so far. Pool is nice, Having Outback here is very nice! Haven't been bothered by noice from airport at all. If you have any questions let me know - we are hear for a few more days. I would book soon - they are completely booked today.

Are the streets quite busy until you get to the beach??

Is the water rough with waves and a slight undertow like Playa Del Carmen or Nuevo Vallarta can be?

Renting a car when we are there and have heard driving there can be ...extreme....???

Any restaurants that you like??

DRINKS YUM What do they serve and do they have virgin blended drinks for the teens and children??

Are the rooms a nice size?? Any parts of the hotel that are quieter and worht requesting??

I am pumped to stay here :)

Thanks to both of you for replying so quickly!!

Nick-Thanks for that info! Sounds like you are enjoying yuor stay and glad to get your "real time" feedback.

Quincy-They have a summary of the free drinks on their website for that specific hotel at Embassysuites.com....as well as the pool bar menu. But yes, virgin drinks for the kids, blended/non-blended, you name it. Or maybe Nick can come back and give us first hand experience! :)

Gmadede: It's the Embassy Suites - Isla Verde. I believe that there's only one Embassy Suites in PR.

There is another one but in the other side of the island. We are talking about the Embassy hotel on Isla Verde beach area.

Drinks - yes good. There is a soda machine with easy access for the kids. I also saw some virgin drinks being made for the kids. I overheard someone say Pina Colda's are on Weekends - We have been drinking Rum Punch and Margarita's - and they are strong. There is also snacks - really good popcorn, chips and salsa - last night there was peanuts. There is a short line - before 6:15 each person can get 2 drinks at a time. Suites are just like any Embassy Suites - Nice - clean, comfortable - decorated nicely, frig, microwave, desk. Also there is free wireless internet - you have to give your room # and they credit it back to your account. Waves are there alright - I haven't been to those beaches but it's not as rough as we had in Humacao at Del Mar. My boys love jumping waves. There was a slight pull but nothing to require a flag on the beach. If you go out just a little bit past the waves it was not too bad. We rented a car from Thrifty - we had a hard time with them - I will save the whole story for my trip report - but driving isn't so bad - I have been more tense driving through Atlanta. Just be watchful - expect them to pull infront of you and cut you off. We haven't had any issues driving around honestly. Our kids are picky eaters - so we have stayed pretty close to chains we know - it's also hard to order when your spanish is limited in some local places - Outback is in Embassy - Lots of places in walking distance - Pizza Hut - Pondarosa. As for quiet - not really sure - I haven't noticed any issues - my room faces the airport and only a few times have I noticed a white noise like sound that was an airplane. Besides if you are getting drinks - you will sleep soundly! Enjoy!
