We are driving the Rockies in a motorhome in a few weeks and beginning to get the jitters as have no real plans.

We're driving from Edmonton, exploring & returning back to Edmonton over 7 days. We hope to visit Jasper, the icefields, Lake Louise etc etc.

Any tips about camp sites, must sees, things to avoid, dos & don'ts would be really useful!

I thought we'd just take it as it comes but have been told it's best to have some sort of plan especially when planning where to stay overnight.

This is our first time in Canada and first ever driving an RV at 24", I'm a little frightened.

       thanks in advance

       Ps

Anyone know anything about food shopping / supermarkets in the Rockies?

A few random tips: Don't stay at the Lake Louise campground, trains rumble along side of it at all hours of the night and day.

There are two large grocery stores in the town of Banff; there is also a very nice RV campground on the edge of town, Tunnel Mountain. If you want a fully-serviced site there (water/sewer/electrical hookups), then be sure to reserve in advance. Sorry, don't know about Jasper.

I wouldn't plan to expand your itinerary beyond Jasper/Banff.

Plan to spend an entire day driving the Icefields Parkway, as it is very scenic and you won't want to rush. Also, there are some very steep grades which you may be forced to crawl up in your motorhome, depending on how powerful its engine is.

There is no alternate route to the Icefields Parkway, by the way - nor would you want to take one, as the route is startlingly beautiful yet different when you go each direction.
