New face, excellent location

The Calinda Geneve (which seems to be going by just "Hotel Geneve" now, although most taxi drivers seem to know it as the "Calinda") has recently been renovated and given a much needed face lift. Its location in the Zona Rosa can’t be beat, although if you’re an early sleeper by Mexican standards, request a room in the back. The only quibble is that the wireless internet connection is almost outrageously expensive, especially considering that it’s free at the Starbucks across the street.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Restaurants: Fonda "El Refugio" (go out the back entrance onto Calle Liverpool, turn right -- it’s in the next block on the left) specializes in traditional Mexican cuisine. Try the pipian. There is a taxi stand at the intersection of Liverpool and the pedestrian mall (out the back entrance of the hotel -- through Sanborns -- and turn left) where taxis are safe and significantly less expensive than the tourist class taxis that the bellhops will call for you in front of the hotel.

Historic Hotel in Mexico City with average service

While I was relieved to find a decent hotel in Mexico City after the COnference Accommodation Service put me in the el dumpo Hotel SF at three times the standard daily rate, the Hotel Geneve was definitely comfortable and clean but service was amateur and several serious glitches marred my stay there. Most serious was that at least 2 of my wake up calls were not delivered, causing me to oversleep and almost miss my return flight. Also, internet service from the room was intermittent and message retrieval from room phone difficult at best. Room service was prompt but from the Sanbourn’s restaurant in the hotel, which is the Mexican equivalent of Chili’s and not what I expected from a 4 star hotel. Finally, while the desk staff tried very hard, their limited experience and English made dealing with them frustrating at times. Still, a comfortable and well located hotel that I would return to anytime

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Bottled water and snacks from the servibar are very expensive. You can buy the same water and snacks at one of several small 24 hour convenience stores within a block of the hotel for 1/2 to 1/3rd the price and save quite a bit of money over the course of your stay.

Good place

The hotel was clean and well equipped. What we really enjoyed was that the room was very quiet - almost incredible for a city as big as Mexico City. The restaurant (a Sanburns) is OK for the price but not excellent.

Helpful Staff

This is a great, historic hotel in the heart of the "Zona Rosa" very clean, and beautiful public areas, o the staff is helpful and friendly, On the down side, the rooms toward the front have a great deal of street noise, and the hotel owned dining room "The Terrace rooom" was awful, the two Sanborn owned dining rooms were very good and had both English and spanish menus.

First Trip - Great Experience

My partner and I stayed at this hotel during our first trip to Mexico City. Great location - within walking distance to Metro, shops, cafes and the nightlife of the Zona Rosa. Room was very clean and spacious; staff was very helpful and had a good working knowledge of English. Hotel was undergoing a major restoration to celebrate its 100-year anniversary, but this did not diminish from our stay. More modern amenities would clearly move this hotel from 3 star status to 4 star.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Request a room at the back of the hotel; the noise from the nearby clubs can be a bit loud on the weekends. Also, be on the lookout for locals within a one block radius offering up car rental, taxi or other services - they are quick to spot a tourist

hotel lobby was being remodeled. The elevators are sort of hidden. The shower water pressure and nozzle height were very good.

Can’t Wait To Go Back

The hotel was very nice and comfortable. My friends and my boyfriend and I had such a great time. It was in a great location, close to restaurants, bars, clubs etc. The Hotel Staff were very helpful and nice. I would recommend to everyone.

It is a nice little hotel, well located and we can recommend it

This hotel is located in la Zona Rosa and only one block away from the Paseo de Reforma which leads to the Chapultepec Park on the one side and the Zocalo on the other, both of which are easily accessible by taxi. It is surrounded by many good restaurants and shops. Walking at night is quite safe as the area is well policed. The hotel is presently being remodelled and during the day one may occasionally hear some noises. During the night it is perfectly calm. This is an older hotel, but for the price quite a bargain. It has some old world charm.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

For breakfast the Sanborn Restaurant is fine. For other meals there are better choices outside the hotel

We will go back - very clean, good service,

My husbad and I went to Mexico City to visit our children. We were very satified with the cleanliness and the service at this hotel, consider this is a three stars hotel. There is one thing that I was not exactly happy when we went to the restaurant(don’t know the name, but it is right in the back) to check it out to decide whether to eat there or not, we found that the service was not up to part. We were not acknowleged for at least 3 minutes, although there are some boday standing around with nothing to do. We decided to leave at eat elsewhere. Having said that, I would still recommended anyone to stay at this hotel.

Hotel Geneve, one of the most traditional of Mexico

Hotel Geneve, located in a privileged site in the city, as is the pink zone, surrounded by shops and restaurants that facilitate the activities of tourists. There are good policing in the area, which makes citizens feel safe. It is only a few steps from the monument to the Angel of Independence and the tour of the forest Chapultepec.

Traveler's tip on local attractions

Mexico City is a city that we must know, has many tourist attractions that are worth visiting. Through them you can learn more closely their culture, their customs. It is also advisable to savor its exquisite cuisine. In short, you should go to Mexico City and not wait to talk to him about it.

poor service

while the hotel was clean and in a good location, the service was poor. I had problems with t.v. in room, could not access payper view channels. When we inquired about help, a technicien came up and look at t.v. for about 10 minutes. they said it couldnt be fixed and would see about changing our room to one with properly operating t.v. Numerous request after that went un answered and we spent rest of our stay with t.v. that wouldnt work properly. Guess our request was not important to them.

Very comfortable and safe hotel.

Very nice hotel and great location. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Everytime I asked for something I got it right away from the staff. Never was bother by the noise from the busy street. I can’t wait to go back. Felt very safe inside the hotel.

Traveler's tip on nightlife

If you are into the gay scene this is the best hotel you can pick. It is close to everything and you don’t need to take a taxi because there are about 20 gay clubs with in a 1 mile ratious. Enjoy Mexico City. It is the Best. !

The Hotel is currently doing some updating and construction was underway. The area was very clean and accessing shopping and eateries was very easy. The Taxi service was excellent.
