Very impressed

Hotel staff were gracious, helpful, and just simply nice; the proximity to the beach was ideal; the hotel room was lovely and very clean; the adjoining restaurant served food which was very good and reasonably priced; overall, great value for your money.

Great location at a reasonable price...

Located half a block from the beach and half a block to happenin’ 5th Street, Illusion is a nice, clean, and affordable option. For a great dining experience, don’t miss Le Palette a few doors down.

Great Playa Boutique Hotel

This was our second stay at the Illusion. To our delite, we were upgraded to their Master Suite because of a group booking in our origional reservation. Our suite on the top terrace floor had an awesome ocean view with a private patio at pool side. The room was wonderful. The staff at the hotel are all very friendly and most helpful. The hotel is 1/2 block from the beach and 1/2 block from Playa’s "5th Ave". with LOTS of shopping and excellent restaurants.We’ll be back !!!

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

This hotel is just that...a Hotel. The beach, shopping, and eats are close but most other "tourist" activities are a bus ride away. It’s a great town to get away to relax at the beach !!

A good place to stay in Playa

It is very close to the beach and its still in the middle of the bars and restaurants in Playa del Cramen with the advantage that isnt very noicey inside your room so you can sleep at any time.

Is in almost in the 5th av so you have all kind of bars and restaurants just outside the hotel.

great hotel in playa

found a great deal on this hotel. it offered everything we needed: very close to the beach, clean/comfortable/very nice and helpful staff. close to 5th avenida without being too loud.

Great home base in Playa Del Carmen

This was a very clean hotel located 1/2 block off of 5th Avenue. It was easy walking distance to all of the popular restaurants, bars, clubs and shopping, yet it was a quiet and peaceful place to stay. It was also 1/2 block to the beach! The continental breakfast was adequate, but the breakfast available for purchase was excellent and a great deal. Overall we were very pleased with the Illusion Boutique and will gladly stay there again on future trips!

Traveler's tip on dining

Try "La Parilla" restaurant just up the hill from the hotel. It is a well established Mexican restaurant with great food and their patio dining offers a great view of the activity on 5th Avenue below.

Can’t wait to go back

The hotel is good and is close to all the bars, restaurants and beach, i cant ask for anything else for that price, the rooms are big and clean not fancy but good.

decent hotel for price and location

Hotel is a minute walking distance to beach and you’re central to quinta ave. Try to request a room not facing the street. we reserved a balcony room and ended up facing the street (i was hoping we would be facing the beach). Also, elevator was broken when we got there. Was supposed to be fixed next day. By the time we left, the elevator was still broken. Pool was no good either. As for service, the staff was extremely accomodating and courteous. We would recommend it to other travelers going to Playa.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

If you’re looking for an inexpensive lunch, but one that it still tasty, try Dr. Tacos. It’s one stree up from Quinta and across from the movie theater. Approx. 6 dollars for a lunch that is super tasty and fresh!

Swimming pool

The hotel is nice. I chose it because it had a swimming pool on the roof which I thought is nice. When arriving to the hotel, we found it that the swimming pool is not working due to renovation works. Nobody told us about it before arriving, the hotel didn’t announce it on their website, if I would know it hadn’t been working-maybe I’d choose another hotel. Accept of that, I wrote Expedia and the hotel we’re on our honeymoon but I regret to say no body payed attention to that and we weren’t treated differently- what a shame.

Good price

Nice rooms on pleasant street close to the beach. But pool was closed when we stayed and night staff at desk generally unhelpful.

OK hotel

I stayed in this hotel just because I wanted to be close to everything in Playa del Carmen. Location was great. Hotel was ok. The only problem somehow we didn’t have the hot water so our showering was very refreshing after hot day in Playa. We had to pay extra money for the omlet in the morning (was not included in the continental brekfast). I didn’t really like the beach (croweded and dirty). We moved to Barcelo soon it’s where we were very happy.

There is a nice little restaurant on the 6 ave (ask front desk). Food was goos and not expenssive.
