Things did not begin well as we arrived to find their error on our reservation. They immediately apologized and had us transported to a similar hotel and they paid for the hotel that night and transportation back to the Magna Grecian the next day. The Magna Grecian is in a superb location within waking distance of everything one might want to see. The Acropolis is a beautiful view from the breakfast room and is only a few minutes walk as are virtually all of the major sites. Very good restaurants are also very close by. We would stay there again.

This was our second trip to Athens in two years and we chose this hotel particularly for location. We arrived to find the triple room we had reserved unavailable, but they provided us with a cot and reduced the rate to compensate. There were comments about the church bells, but we didn't mind them at all. It was a good location, very close to lots of attractions, shopping and dining. The front desk attendant, Maria, (hope that is right) was fabulous and even shared her bag of cheetos to these travel-worn visitors. The room was a bit small, but had wonderful high ceilings. The bathroom was a little more worn than the pictures showed, but very adequate. The beds were the only comfortable ones we had in three weeks traveling around Europe. Breakfast on the room-top was very nice.

Nice charming character older building with high ceiling. Close to everything and service was good. Bathroom renovation missed the facet fixture and shower head, which popped off during use. Windows can be more secure, as balcony is shared with another room. Church bell is a factor for those who are light sleepers. View is Acropolis and church courtyard a good bonus. Overall a good stay.

the staff at this hotel were excellent - very polite, very helpful and they all spoke excellent english. Our special thanks to Maria who is a lovely lady and made our stay at the Magna Grecia Hotel a lovely experience. Wonderful view of the acropolis from the roof garden - makes the extra money paid for a special view maybe uneccessary

There are several steps to haul luggage before entering reception desk. There is no porter service. Very small elevator only goes from reception area to guest rooms and roof top area where an excellent breakfast is available. Hotel was very clean and Maria, the concierge, was very helpful. Acropolis view room and bathroom are large. Rooftop terrace is a wonderful place to relax; and the view at night is breathtaking.

We were delighted with our accommodations and the staff. There were fantastic views of the Acropolis, a Greek Orthodox Church and square. The hotel was situated near all sorts of cafes and shopping. We even came back. The view from the roof garden is breath taking. The church bell does ring on the hour and half hour. The beds were great

The hotel was just as described. The location is EXCELLENT, couldn't be better. The staff was very friendly, welcoming and helpfull. We stayed in the Mykonos room, number 204..it had a wonderfull view of the Acropolis, as did the breakfast room. The breakfast was generous and abundant. Parking is a challenge, of course, in Athens. The bed was a little soft for our tastes, but the room was otherwise perfect. I would highly recommend the hotel and definitely stay there again upon returning to Athens.

We will come back after a renovation of the rooms esp. the bathrooms. Te surroundings are fantastic, but the hotel is very loud, the cathedral sounds every half an hour. The toilet was out of order and running the whole night and the heat did not work (late Novembre). There was no further service, as internet access or a snack or drink to eat. The hotel has no possibility to park and no parkings service. The next park garage is 500 m away.

Perfect location for walking to the Acropolis, the Plaka, the metro. Wonderful staff, friendly and helpful. Front rooms with a view are very noisy, Church is directly across the street. Church bells chime every hour and half hour 24/7 and street is busy and noisy late at night. Back rooms are quiet and cheaper but no windows. Breakfast adequate. Acropolis View from roof is spectacular. Hard to get a cab. Reasonably priced. Very Clean but lots of smokers. Not luxurious but we would stay there again because of the central location which to us is most important.

The room was quite comfortable, except for the bathroom, very small and not very well equipped. Wonderful the view from the terrace, just in face of the north side of the Parthenon. Excellent the location of the hotel, near to the cathedral, and to the pedestrian area around the Acropole. Very well connected to other places, thanks to the subway station closest.

The hotel was in a wonderful location, with views of the Acropolis. One very important detail however... not all rooms have windows to the outside! We had a 'deluxe honeymoon suite' but it's only window opened to an interior stairwell. Management told us, "You need to request a room with a balcony if you would like an outside window". At the same time, they were very accomodating, and gave us a discounted rate for our windowless suite.

This is a great alternative to the big box hotels in Athens. Great area, walking distance to the Acropolis (a good long fascinating walk in the same streets as Aristotle and Plato) shops and restaurants, very close to the metro. Rooms very clean and spacious. Bathroom a bit small by US standards but no matter. Everything worked and the air conditioning was a godsend helping us sleep well. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Very pretty blond Greek-American lady was at the front desk when we were there so obviously her English was 100%. Nice breakfast on the top floor with a stunning view of the Acropolis. Would definitely return and recommend to all my friends, except the ones that insist on big box hotels ;-)

We had a 2 night stay in Athens and this hotel is in a fantastic location. It would be a lovely idea if they had drinks in the bar at sunset each night so that guests socialise and make for a more friendly environment. The only other comment would be to ask for a room with a view as all other rooms are internal and so are very dark and have no fresh air, and the view is incredible so worth having.

This hotel was advertised as 4 star. We only stayed at 4 or 5 star hotels. This was not a 4 star hotel. The entrance was a corridor. The hotel name in it was hand written. The building was very small. The lift only carried 2 adults without any luggage. The ensuite was an enclosed corner of the room with the partitioning not reaching the ceiling. The bed was so undercomfortable for my wife she seriously considered in the middle of the night sleeping on the floor. The furniture in the room was very simple. The key to the door was an old fashioned. It looked like something from the 1900. The hotel would be fine properly rated and priced. Needless to say we were not happy with the 4 star rating and would not have chosen the hotel had we known the true position. We stayed one night and cancelled our other bookings there without giving the true reason. We then booked 2 nights in a 5 star hotel about 2 blocks away.

Inside rooms have no view but they are quiet and you can use the wonderful roof dinning area and the rooms with the view are noisy. Excellent location and the views of the Acropolis can't be beat. Breakfast basic at best and the staff is very helpful. Six days in Athens alllows for a very detailed visit of many different districts, museums, and sites. You can take many tours originating in Athens with evening returns.

Magna Grecia Hotel is defintely a good choice. We stayed here for one night at the end of our trip to the cyclades. The location is ideal, within walking distance from monastiriki where you have the metro to the airport, and jut in the plakka area. We had an lovely room on the second floor where we had an icredible view over the acropolis. The view from the terrace where you have your breakfast is really great. The staff is very helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Outstanding location in Plaka District and near Acropolis. Employees on check-in were very nice, welcoming, and helpful. Great recommendation for dinner and nice rooftop breakfast with a great view of the Acropolis. Excellent shopping and sight-seeing nearby. We traveled as 2 couples, one room very nice and spacious in front of hotel with a view of Acropolis, (though a bit noisy), while the other room was very tight and bordered on the foyer to the elevator. For some reason other guests decided they needed to take pictures at 1:00 a.m. while waiting for the elevator; the flash could be seen through our curtains and voices very clearly heard. The air-conditioning in the small room (Santorini) was ridiculous as we never could control the temp to be comfortable. Freezing or stuffy, no in-between. The night before we left, arrangements were made with the desk for an early taxi to the airport the next a.m. The gentleman on duty early in the a.m. had us wait an extra 15-20 minutes for 'his' taxi which was late. We needed to get going so hailed a 'regular' taxi (against his wishes) after letting several others pass by. We were warned not to pay more than E 50. When we got to the AP, the taxi driver charged us E 25, E 5 less than the pre-arranged one. This tactic created stress where there didn't need to be any. We would return to this hotel, but with hard guarantees of exact rooms and conditions beforehand.

Great hotel, excellent views to Acropolis, Cathedral and square from double rooms and rooftop breakfast room. However, they inevitably have traffic and ecclesiastical noises but what do you expect from such a location. If you want quiet then take one of the rooms at the back which face into a small internal courtyard . Great, quirky decor but some fittings needed attention - if this bothers you then go elsewhere. We would would certainly go back - wish we could find such character and welcome in all major cities!

Right next to the Cathedral with rooms overlooking the Acropolis. Breakfast on the roof with stunning views. Rooms large and airy with high decorated cielings. However, you will have to put up with the odd querk such as door knobs falling off and showers from the 1920s, but these features add to the experience rather than annoy. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. As the hotel is near the main tourist area, the nights can be very noisey from street traffic. Be careful if taking a taxi from the airport as many do not seem to know where the hotel is and you can end up with a 50 Euro bill! Great central hotel and an oasis after a long flight.

A beautiful hotel with a lovely room (very comfortable bed) in an excellent location. We were upgraded to an Acropolis view room free of charge, which was a great start to the holiday! Very friendly owners. Only negatives were the bathroom - the shower/tiling was a bit faded and old with a dodgy shower curtain. Definitely not the same standard as the rest of the room/hotel. I did not expect this from the photos I had seen before when booking. Breakfast could also have been a bit more inspiring. However, it was served on a beautiful roof-top terrace, which partly made up for it. Still a lovely little place to stay overall.

As we could not sleep well with the noise from the front park and bells from church through night, we had to cancel following nights (cancellation fee, 100 Euro, without notice from the front) and move to another one. Though the hotel is classic and unique, I do not recommend to those who need quietness.

We had a nice double room with en-suite shower room. The bed was very comfortable and assisted a good sleep. The downside is the Cathedral has a clock that chimes the hours and half hour. Earplugs required if in a room with a view. Excellent location. Great View of Acropolis from the front rooms and roof. We were there on Greek Independence Day 2006 and the street was lined with soldiers for the Greek President who arrived with other dignitaries at the front of the hotel, just below our room, for the service in the small Athens cathedral opposite. The beds were very comfortable.

The Magna Grecia Boutique Hotel played a big part in our wonderful stay in Athens. Getting to the hotel from the airport is a breeze because the hotel is conveniently located down the street from the Metro stop for Syntagma Square. The room was exactly as advertised. The room and the bathroom were clean and spacious. The hotel is located across from a Cathedral, but the chiming of the bells was hardly noticeble after we battened down the hatches. How can you beat opening your shutters to a view of the Acropolis? The breakfast buffet was fantastic. What made the hotel great were the people. The hotel staff and owner were very gracious and always willing to help. The frontdesk person, worried that we might be caught in a downpour, even volunteered his umbrella. We definitely plan on a return trip to Athens, and there's only one place we'll stay: the Magna Grecia Boutique Hotel.

My husband and I both loved this hotel. We booked quite late so all the Acropolis-view rooms had already been taken but during check-in, the manager told us we could move to an Acropolis-view room after our second night. Both rooms we stayed in were beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The hotel staff was friendly and welcoming and helpful with directions and recommendations. The unique building, attitude of the staff and the incredibly comfortable beds all made this hotel stand out. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

This hotel made our Athens experience remarkable: the Magna Grecia is incredibly beautiful; the employees (including the owner himself) are friendly and helpful; the rooms were remarkably comfortable, (particularly the beds!) and our room had a head-on view of the Acropolis. Wow. As a couple in their twenties, we found the hotel's location to be ideal, but the same comfort and convenience would apply for anyone: families, older couples, or single travelers. The Magna Grecia is close to Psirri, a hip neighborhood that houses some terrific restaurants and bars, is barely a walk to the busy flea market, and is, of course, very close to the Acropolis. The Magna Grecia is newer, (only about a year old), but it is an unbelievable find. We'll definitely stay there if we have the chance to visit Athens again!

You must not miss out on this spectacular hotel. Recently redone with beautiful, spacious rooms and heavenly beds! Our rooms had a post-card view of the acropolis! The staff are extremely welcoming. They gave our 2 year old a gift when we arrived, very sweet. Breakfast was very good. The rooftop terrace has wonderful views. The Plaka is a street away placing you very near to the most popular sites. The tour bus company is just a few blocks away. We have stayed at many hotels in Europe and would chose this one over any of them (including a 4 star on Via Veneto in Rome)! It is truly a gem!

We loved the hotel when we checked in, unfortunately it's right next to Athens Cathedral and the bells chime on the hour every hour through the night, as well as every half hour. Also the street cleaners aren't quiet at 3am! I'm a heavy sleeper and it kept me awake all night. It's a shame because everything else in the hotel is great.

The location of the Magna Grecia is absolutely perfect - dead centre in the Plaka area, with very short walks to the Acropolis, Parliament, National Gardens, etc. The rooms themselves are very charming and the atmosphere of the hotel is great. However, the rooms that face the Acropolis are noisy - with noise from the street below and the church bells from the cathedral across the street. (We were dutifully warned of this by the staff). In addition, the noise in between the rooms and from the hallway was more than expected.
