Grand Prince hotel - Takanawa

Hotel is excelent and so is the service. Location could be better as the walk to Shinagawa railway station is longer than I initialy thought. Also note that breakfast and internet access are not included and can add up to one third of the room cost. Overall: highly recomended.

A wonderful place to stay

This is a beautiful and comfortable hotel. The price is amazingly good and the hotel staff is wonderful. The rooms are significantly large for Tokyo standards, we had a great view to Tokyo Tower, and the garden is beautiful. I would definitely stay here again.

Nice Hotel - Close to transportation

Nice hotel close to Shinagawa station. The walk up the hill from the station is not that bad, maybe 5-7 minutes. The Japanses garden in front of the hotel is also pretty nice. Overall not a bad stay for a few days.

I believe the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa is the best buy in Tokyo.

The hotel is an old establishment with well maintained Japanese garden.Personnel are well trained, cautious, quick. They want to serve you as if they are your own personal helper. This is my second time to stay. I’ll stay the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa every time I’ll visit Tokyo. They have shuttle bus to nearest train station. There are many choices of eating places within walking distance. I can not stop praising about this hotel.

Old furnishings, but clean and spacious.

This hotel is, in my opinion, the best of the four Prince Hotels located in the Shinagawa area of Tokyo.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

Opt out of their room cleaning and receive a 1000 yen voucher for use at the hotel.

Love Tokyo

The service was excellent, the room was very clean, spacious with a nice garden view.

Traveler's tip

It’s a 10 minute walk to the subway and train station....and a nice park connecting three Prince Hotels

very impressed

It’s a little bit farther than the other Prince Hotels, but it is well worth the extra walk. There is a shortcut through the Prince Sakura Tower and the beautiful garden. It’s a 5 minute walk from Shinagawa station. The room was nice, clean, with a great view of the city. I’d definitely stay there again. It’s a bit farther than other hotels in Tokyo, but it’s worth it for the comfort, price, and easy access to transportation. There is also a limousine bus to and from Narita airport that stops there.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

To get there from the train station, take the Takanawa exit and take a right once you’re outside and keep walking until you reach the crosswalk at street level, unless you like climbing up and down stairs on the overpasses. There are many restaurants and mini markets near the station. There is even a Starbucks in the station.

Great Value

I was very satisfied with my stay at this hotel. The staff was extremely coutious and helpful. I especially liked the lavoratory. It was a very confortable stay and I would reccomend it highly. It is located close to the Shinagawa train station which is a 10 minute walk or a few minutes ride on the free shuttle bus provided by the hotel. Complimentory umbrellas are available if it rains.

Traveler's tip on saving a few bucks

I would suggest eating at the local eateries close by. The restaurant in the hotel is a little expensive.

Excellent Value

A bit of out the way for central Tokyo but close to train station. The hotel has a very nice garden and the staff are very courteous. Good value restuarant nearby. Will stay there again.

Nice hotel, clean, and with easy access to metro.

I enjoyed my short stay at this hotel. It’s a nice building with nice, clean rooms and beautiful grounds (garden) to walk and take a break in. It’s also very close, easy walking distance to the Shanigawa metro station, even if you’re carting your bags. I’ll definitely keep it in mind for future trips.

Not Clean & Access not ideal

mold in bathroom wall tile grout. Shuttle doesn’t run mid afternoon forcing us to spend taxi money. Plus shuttle must be reserved ahead of time and on weekends it is full...forcing us to take taxi. If weather bad access is not good.

Traveler's tip on shopping

Not much shopping close by, especially if buying souvenirs.

Great Hotel and Location

Conveniently located within walking distance of the Shinagawa Station (which among many lines includes the Shinkansen) this hotel is nestled amongst a trio of nice hotels surrounding a park with a carp-filled pond. The staff was extremely helpful and polite, especially a certain concierge, and most spoke English. The room was of high quality, roomy and spotless. The price was right too. My only disappointment was there there was no coffee in the room.

Traveler's tip on dining

Meals in the hotel are expenseive. There are many excellent (& cheaper) places to eat near the Shinagawa station.

great hotel

loved this hotel, the service was great and the room was as large as most western hotels with great amenities. the staff spoke enough english to help us out with everything we needed. The only complaint i have is that i left a personal item there not of value to anyone but me and expensive to replace that must have been thrown out by room service because it was not in lost and found when i called the same day that i checked out =(

Roomy, Clean, Convenient!

The room was large by Tokyo standards. The hotel was immaculate, the room was spotless, the airconditioning/dehumidifier was top-notch (important in the summer), the closets and the shower were large and roomy. Loved the "always-hot" water in the thermos for the tea selections (green and roasted barley). The beds/pillows were very comfortable and the sheets were always fresh and crisp. The amenities provided in the bathroom were plentiful. Will definitely go back every time!

Traveler's tip on shopping

LOVE the proximity to Shinagawa station, the great supermarket at the entrance of the station, the Wing Takanawa shops and the vast array of small restaurants near the station, on both sides of the street. We always hit the Starbucks at the station for a large Venti Drip in the morning! If you’re staying in Tokyo, this hotel has everything you could ask for. It even has a beautifully landscaped grounds you can stroll through at any time of day.

100% Awesome!!!!

Perfect for any type of traveler. Most of the staff speak/understand english and are always willing to go the extra length to help the customer.

Traveler's tip on getting the most out of your stay

Two suggestions, get the Tokyo Atlas since the majority of sreets are not named (the book will be a time/life saver.) Also, get well versed in the Tokyo Metro & Toei train lines:)

Great location and Great Hotel!

In terms of location to price point, and overall quality, you can’t go wrong with the Grand Prince Takanawa. The hotel is located across the street from the Shinagawa train station which is an excellent hub to connect you to the greater Tokyo area via the JR and other local train lines. There is also a large retail mall complex next to the station for your shopping and eating pleasure. The location is really prime because of the train station and nearby amenities, and the rates are lower than downtown hotels. Having traveled all around Tokyo, I would rather stay near Shinagawa Station b/c it is amenity-rich and cheaper than staying downtown. The hotel itself was very nice and the staff very friendly and helpful. The rooms are not big, but they were very clean with great views of the city, and still larger than most hotels I’ve stayed at in New York City (for triple the price!). The service was great. All of the staff were very attentive and helpful to our needs. I had read reviews that said the hotel primarily catered to business travelers, but I saw many fellow tourists staying here and they were very well prepared to meet our needs. The concierge desk was very helpful and can set you up with many tours around Tokyo and beyond. Many of the local tour services provide pick up services at the New Takanawa Hotel next door (owned by the same company), which is very convenient. Overall, great location, excellent service, and great price. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Traveler's tip on dining

There is a 24 hour Italian restaurant in the Shinagawa East complex near the hotel. Many restaurants close early, so if you’re looking for some late night food near Shinagawa, this is your best bet.

Little Dissapointed

The staff was somewhat rude and the service left a lot to be desired. We needed to extend the stay and they didn’t allow us to do so.

An Oasis in the Middle of Tokyo

This is a beautiful hotel in the middle of Tokyo. Its setting next to a perfectly maitained park with a koi pond is charmng. However, everything not included in the room price is very expensive.
