“Bedbugs!!!!!!!”

I just got back from the Gran Melia in Puerto Rico and let me tell you it was a horrible experience. Yes the grounds are beautiful but it all ends there. The bungalows are infested with ants that bite. The rooms are dirty, dusty, moldy and stink of mildew. I went 3 days without any housekeeping, thank god there was a maid's closet right outside my room so I was able to take clean towels. I called 18 times and still no housekeeping, for 3 days! The service is despicable. To top it all off they have bedbugs. I am covered in welts on my arms and legs. They offerred me some ointment and to have housekeeping change my sheets. I dont think they understand that bedbugs live in the mattress. They were not at all helpful and truthfully could not care less. I travelled with a large group and there were about 30 people who also had bed bugs. I do not recomend this place to anyone, save your money and stay home.

“Bad experience”

I stayed with my family for several days. I was wanting to show my kids what the eastern side of Puerto Rico looks like. So we went sight seeing the El Yunque forest and so many other places around. Also enjoyed the pool at the hotel.
Overall, we liked the setting, atmosphere and ambience. People were very cordial but keep in mind you are staying in a hotel.
Yes, food and everything else was way pricy, I echo the complians of other reviewers.
One thing was very dissapointing to us. The day we left, my daughter forgot her gold bracelet in the security box. We inmediately called (less than 2 hours after) and notified the security office. They promised us promp expedient service and follow up call. I am still waiting for that courtesy call of them. They were helpless and did not make any effort to provide extra help.

For that reason, I would NEVER stay there again. If I recommend it, I would make it clear that it is not safe to leave anything of value around. Perhaps your car at the parking lot is better, even though it is dark as a moonlees night.

“looks aren't everything”

Gran Melia Puerto Rico

When we arrived at the resort the main building was beautiful, the pool was beautiful. When we got to our room, the floors were dusty, and the shower curtain had mold inside. The service just killed the whole beauty of the resort. Housekeeping could show up anywhere from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and never replaced the towels, face cloths or hand towels consistantly (2 one day 4 another....), same with the toiletries. By the pool all employees would be standing around in the wet bar waiting for us to go order drinks from them rather than them coming to us for our business. As a matter of fact, my daughter did go to order a burger one day from the bar and they told her to come back in 15 minutes to get it! When I questioned the manager about it he was quite embarrassed. I don't know if this resort is all inclusive any more, if it is for some, we were not, and the staff needs to realize that they don't have everyone's money beforehand. There's still lots of money that can be made if they make an effort to treat their guests right.

“Hits and misses”

Gran Melia Puerto Rico

Gran melia grounds are beautiful. I enjoyed my stay but you really need to know what you are getting yourself into. Renting a car is a must. The prices of food are extremely high and you would be missing alot if you didnt venture outside the resort. There are some great typical puertorican restaurants up the road, such as antojitos and don pepe. Luqillo beach is also 10 mintues away. The service was hit or miss. Some people being extremely helpful while others were not. My biggest issue was the hour it took to check in due to an error between my cheaptickets reservation and the hotel. All in all if you are willing to get a car and venture out....its an enjoyable stay since the hotel itself is very pretty. The staff needs some re-training.
