“Great Stay!!!”

Gran Melia Puerto Rico

Jun 10, 2008

Wife Left Puerto Rico 35 yrs ago, surprized her with a trip back, for our 25th wedding anniversary. Booked 8d/7n at the Gran Melia...
Wow, what a place... Stayed in the Garden Suit room, Floors all marble, huge bathroom, and kitchenette... Very nice.... they are upgrading due to Trump buying everything around the resort.
Pool is beautiful, and the grounds to match... Beach is small, but if you like to snorkel, then it is the place to be... it has a reef about 200 yds off the beach, which forms a pool... The food is very good, but pricey... Located in the middle of attractions. Will book trip again...

“Dirty rooms”

Gran Melia Puerto Rico

2 of 5 stars
Puerto Rico
Jun 10, 2008

After a great day at El Yunque National Forest, my family were exhausted to arrive at Gran Melia. The structure is impressive, but when I went to 612 room a lot of mildew in bath linen, no air conditioner and no vacuum my room. My husband was very upset and called several times to front desk and a great, customer service employee came and solved the air conditioning problem. In addition let him know about bath curtain that was with a lot of mildew, he called to correspondent area, but at today, nobody went to my room to change the linen. I suffered with a lot of allergy and my vacation was a disaster. As a matter of fact, the prices are too ridiculous. We pay on dollars instead of euro. A coke cost $3.57, a nuggets with fries for a kid cost $16.00, a buffe without lobster, only creole food cost $37.00 adults, $18.00 kids, that is a ridiculous price due to my kids only eat one or two nuggets. My room never was clean. I will never go to Puerto Rico Gran Melia, is dirty and dusty.

We truly appreciate and thank you for your comments and concerns about our resort. We certainly take all comments posted on the travel websites very seriously however I must point out my disappointment in never having the chance to turn your experience into a great experience.

The housekeeping department in our hotel works with the highest levels of sanitation and all of our rooms undergo numerous inspections before they are placed into inventory. Also, Gran Melia Puerto Rico has three of the best chefs on the island who have belonged on the National Culinary Team of Puerto Rico and have won gold and silver medals, respectively.

“Sol Melia vacation member (Loved our room/condo!)”

Gran Melia Puerto Rico

4 of 5 stars

Jun 8, 2008

We just got back yesterday
We were there for 10 days
We had 2 hot tubs! one in our bathroom and the other on the balcony! our view of the ocean was wonderful. we had the over-advantage b/c we are vacation club members so, check-in was different from regular visitors. check-in was a breeze, staff was friendly and courteous, internet access was available. information was readily available
there was many to do
San Juan was great
great shops!
the restaurants in Puerto Rico are great! very impressed
it's nice to travel to Puerto Rico b/c u don't have to go through customs, etc...... which can be a headache, sometimes
better rent a car while u are there! a taxi is expensive! really expensive!
oh, and do the el yunque rainforest :)

the downs- it rained off and on every single day we were there, the beach-
rocky, not swimmingly.(?*not sure if that's a word- LOL)
the resort is not all inclusive anymore
i wish it was though
The phone in our room had some serious issues. lol
Housekeeping came around a wee bit too early some days.

I would go back to Puerto Rico but, I don't know if I would stay here again

But, the overall experience was A
OK :)

“Went for our Honeymoon and was very disapointed.”

Gran Melia Puerto Rico

I am a little late writing this review - Last year we took our honeymoon here. The place was beautiful, only thing is there was so much construction going on outside by the pool. I think they were building a new bar or something. Every single day we went out by the pool all we heard were jack hammers and on the other side they were building new condos. So between the jackhammers and the forklifts we didnt really get to relax to much. We tried to voice our opinions about this but the staff didnt seem to care and only tried to sell us timeshare properties. Which would have been great and we would have been interested in but why should we buy if we are not getting treated right? We met some friends while our stay there and all the other couples we met were not happy at all with their stay. Its ashame because it was our honeymoon and I thought this place was going to be so relaxing - but was not. In the past year I have been traveling and have recently become a travel agent - I just wish I could recommend to my clients this place but since the staff did nothing for me (like TONS of other places have when there has been issues - like noise) I cannot and will not recomend this property to anyone. It just would have been nice for them to do something for us instead of ignoring us.

Thank you for your observations and concerns about our resort. We manage all comments very seriously however I must point out that those comments do not paint a true picture of the overall hotel services at Gran Melia Puerto Rico at this moment. I regret your experience with us was not up to your expectations, evermore, when we come to hear from you a year after. Though I can assure you that at the present time we prepared to fit your needs for any of your upcoming vacation or special occasion.

“Mixed on the Gran Melia”

Gran Melia Puerto Rico

Jun 3, 2008

We booked our stay with Gran Melia's Royal Service, which includes a private check-in and lounge and pool, cabanas and a "butler." When we first arrived we were taken to a room that wasn't ready, so we were moved. It took more than 1 1/2 to get a new key- so we were stuck in the room. The room was beauitful. Large, comfortable bed, flat-screen TV, ocean view and a jacuzzi on the balcony.

I'm a big movie fan and we didn't have the movie service the entire stay. Too, our room wasn't cleaned 3 of the four nights we stayed.

Because it is a resort between San Juan and Farjado, without a car, you are stuck eating at the hotel. They have 4 restaurants, including the pool grill. In the evening, your only choice is a full dinner. Not always my choice on vacation. I would have loved somewhere to get a burger and a beer. In the restaurants, which are expensive, everytime we chose an entree, they were out of it.

The beach is beautiful. Bring beach shoes to protect your feet. It's great for walking and exploring the tide pools.

The woman who did my manicure was nice, but it was the worst manicure and pedicure I've ever had. I could tell she was trying to do well, but she was just filing and painting. I doubt she was trained.

We listened to the 90 minute sales pitch for the time shares for the free 1 hour massage. Seemed to go ok until the used car sales tactics at the end of the presentation.

Casino not as nice as I thought it would be, but the real nickle slots are fun.

As I said, its a mixed review- some things were nice, some need improvement. All in all, too expensive for what it was.

We value your comments and concerns regarding our resort. I must point out my disappointment in never having the chance to turn your experience around into a memorable experience.

In regards to the transportation service this is offered by our preferred DMC and as you will comprehend being a separate company unfortunately we are not able to adjust the cost. We do have an Avis desk also in property if you prefer to rent a car. Please consider that the ride from the airport to the hotel is approximately 35 minutes depending on traffic.

Gran Melia Puerto Rico has three of the finest chefs on the island who have belonged on the National Culinary Team of Puerto Rico and have won gold and silver medals, respectively.

I encourage you to return to Gran Melia Puerto Rico in any of your future vacations and allow us to demonstrate we truly are a wonderful resort.
