“Great Hotel”

Hotel Del Clos

I stayed here with my boyfriend and two friends for a ski holiday in Jan 08. We had booked the hotel as part of a package and therefore we didn't really know what to expect.

We all thought that the hotel was great. The rooms are cleaned every day and there is always hot water for a nice bath after a day on the slopes. We were half board and found the meals to be varied and well cooked and the drinks in the restaurant and bar were reasonalby cheap.

The location of the hotel is good, it is only a five minute walk to the ski lift, I would recommend hiring a locker at Nodic Sports to store your skis and boots in, that way you can make the walk to and from the slopes in normal shoes.

The slopes in Andorra are great nice and wide so perfect for intermediates and beginners.

Only minor bad point - the rooms got a little hot and stuffy in the night but we just opened the windeow a bit to let some air in.

All in all a great week of skiing and I would definitely recommend the Hotel Del Clos for a comfortable stay.

Hotel del Clos is located in the village of El Tarter and only a few kilometres from the larger village of Soldeu.
This hotel can be described as homely and comfortable, it is currently the nearest hotel to the Gondola at El Tarter.
In normal shoes a 5 minute walk, in ski boots, it will take double that time. Ski Lockers are provided free of charge but a deposit must be paid for the key. The lockers are located in the garage under the hotel. Personally I would not take this locker again as the lockers near the Nordic hotel are a better (more convenient) option. However there is a charge for the lockers near the Nordic.
It is a good option however.

My twin room was comfortable, warm and spotless. We were on the 3rd floor and had a little balcony which had great views of the valley and one or two of the pistes. Be aware that not all rooms have balconies.
The bathroom was spacious with a great bath, bidet. hair drier and good shower over the bath. Shampoos etc are also provided. There was plenty of wardrobe space for two people in my twin room. There is a TV, and a phone. An in room safe is provided and is charged at €3 per night. I did feel this was too much as most hotels that I have stayed in up to now provide this as a free service.
We could only find one electrical outlet (to recharge ipod etc) but this was not a problem for me.
I would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in the room or perhaps in an accessible part of the bar.

The room was made up beautifully every day when we were out.

Downstairs there is a very comfortable lounge with a tv and one internet terminal. There are plenty of comfy chairs and couches here.
The bar is pleasant and the drink prices very reasonable. (€3 for a large beer). In high season they bring in a very entertaining singer who plays requests for anyone who asks !
The restaurant is spacious and if you choose half board which I would highly recommend, you will not be sorry. The food is delicious and quite varied. It is done buffet style and is plentiful. Breakfast in particular has a lot of variety for hungry skiers. Service in the evening is excellent. The chef is always very visible and is clearly very proud of his culinary skills. The maitre d' is a lovely gentleman and most attentive.

Near the restaurant is a games room which has a pool table, soccer table, ping pong and a few other tables that I could not identify. There is a small charge for each of these and when you borrow any games equipment from reception you must pay a €5 deposit which is returned. One tip - if you like ping pong, bring your own bats and balls. When we were there, they were constantly running out of ping pong balls.

What would bring me back to this hotel again though is the staff friendliness. The restaurant and bar staff were fantastic, very genuinely friendly. Reception staff very efficient and helpful and as already mentioned the housekeeping staff - very professional.

This hotel is a sister hotel to the Hotel Nordic which is about a 5 minute walk away and the facilities there can be used by Del Clos residents. We used the bar and the pool room there and it was a nice diversion.
I would also highly recommend the sister Hotel Nordic which is a 4*, has more facilities than Hotel Del Clos but I don't know if it has the same hominess as Hotel Del Clos.

I would go back to El Tarter and Hotel Del Clos tomorrow, if I could.

“Great, clean, homely Hotel Del Clos, El Tartar”

Stayed at the Hotel Del Clos, El Tartar Feb half term 2007, 2 adults & 2 children (11 & 8). The hotel was spotless, the towels are changed daily and the beds made every day. We were concerned 4 single beds might be a bit cramped, but they are actually two bedroom, one twin room and one bunk room, great for the children. Both rooms had satellite TV. Breakfast was good, evening meals ' buffet style' were OK. (soup & salad starters fine....followed by a rather dull main course) you may want to sample proper restaurant food after day 4 or 5, but on the whole very good standard of hotel. Nice bar with happy hour 5 til 6, relaxing lounge area and also games room with pool table, football tabl, table tennis and a few machines. Now for the ski area of El Tartar/Soldeu. We booked a ski-locker at the Nordic just across the road, so the children didn't have to carry their skis back to the hotel (slight hill), so straight on with the skis and up the 4 man chair (no queues in Feb!). Which ever chair you take you can always come down a really nice blue run back to the resort with a young family (& cowardly mum). Went into ski-school and had a great time. Ski instructor was excellent, more of a 'guide' rather than an instructor, due to all the group already knowing how to ski, we just needed 'fine-tuning'! The ski area is huge and even though only 50% was open, due to supposed lack of snow there was enough for 1 week. The investment in snow cannons has paid off for the area. It can get quite busy on the narrow tree-line runs back to the resort at the end of the day. Really good variety of runs, with wide open slopes on top and a choice of red and a few blacks, if you want them! The piste map is a bit hard to follow, but theres always a blue to get you down...if you're like me and don't want to get scared out of your wits!! There isn't much to see/do in El Tartar apart from the skiing. The supermarket at the other side of the car park is definately worth a visit with three floors you can spend an evening looking and tasting the vast array of wines, spirits, hams, cheese etc, etc. Anyway to sum up, good standard of hotel, good ski area, instructors excellent, just not a lot to do for the non-skier.

“Fabulous”

Hotel Nordic was a beautiful hotel in an ideal location. The restaurant was beautiful with all you can eat sort of buffet daily. staff at the hotel are very helpful. i stayed in the apartment part of it, called aparthotel del clos which i would recommend more than the hotel because you have all the facilities of the hotel and also the facilities in the apartment (kettle, cooker if you felt like coming home for lunch). you can use the swimming pool and gym for a fee. although this hotel is a bit of a walk from the town, it doesn't matter because of its perfect location steps from the ski lift. an all round excellent choice i would say.
