Stayed at the Hotel Del Clos, El Tartar Feb half term 2007, 2 adults & 2 children (11 & 8). The hotel was spotless, the towels are changed daily and the beds made every day. We were concerned 4 single beds might be a bit cramped, but they are actually two bedroom, one twin room and one bunk room, great for the children. Both rooms had satellite TV. Breakfast was good, evening meals ' buffet style' were OK. (soup & salad starters fine....followed by a rather dull main course) you may want to sample proper restaurant food after day 4 or 5, but on the whole very good standard of hotel. Nice bar with happy hour 5 til 6, relaxing lounge area and also games room with pool table, football tabl, table tennis and a few machines. Now for the ski area of El Tartar/Soldeu. We booked a ski-locker at the Nordic just across the road, so the children didn't have to carry their skis back to the hotel (slight hill), so straight on with the skis and up the 4 man chair (no queues in Feb!). Which ever chair you take you can always come down a really nice blue run back to the resort with a young family (& cowardly mum). Went into ski-school and had a great time. Ski instructor was excellent, more of a 'guide' rather than an instructor, due to all the group already knowing how to ski, we just needed 'fine-tuning'! The ski area is huge and even though only 50% was open, due to supposed lack of snow there was enough for 1 week. The investment in snow cannons has paid off for the area. It can get quite busy on the narrow tree-line runs back to the resort at the end of the day. Really good variety of runs, with wide open slopes on top and a choice of red and a few blacks, if you want them! The piste map is a bit hard to follow, but theres always a blue to get you down...if you're like me and don't want to get scared out of your wits!! There isn't much to see/do in El Tartar apart from the skiing. The supermarket at the other side of the car park is definately worth a visit with three floors you can spend an evening looking and tasting the vast array of wines, spirits, hams, cheese etc, etc. Anyway to sum up, good standard of hotel, good ski area, instructors excellent, just not a lot to do for the non-skier.
