“Great Hotel, shame about the entertainment”

Hotel Nordic

The Nordic is a fantastic hotel great rooms and amazing spa facilities. Everything was excellent, food cleanliness and staff were all amongst the best.
The location couldn’t be better, right next to the gondola straight up to the top. Ski lockers easy to access and big enough for two snowboards- just…….
The only let down was the entertainment in the bar every evening- dodgy karaoke singers playing so loud you can't really talk, let alone go to sleep before 11pm.
Even this was not enough to detract from this hotel and would definitely go back, but would try for a room away from the bar.

“Never again”

Three years ago we stayed in the hotel next door, as we did not like the spa facilities that much and we felt that the regime in the restaurant was to much alive, we felt we had to change hotel again the next time we would return. During our week in 2005, part of the family ( we are 13 people ) walked into the Nordic Hotel. Their enthousiasm about the lobby and the facilities made us decide to book for 2007 again.

If only we were told that this hotel was build, ruled and designed for children!!!! We were not prepared for the enormous amount of children that stay there with their parents. And just to let you know, Spanisch children are allowed to do EVERYTHING untill they reach 21. They scream, run and are heard all over the hotel from 5.30 AM till 12 AM.

The solarium needs to be booked up front and can NOT be charged to the room ( neither can the sauna), they do not rent out bath robes, so you have to go in your bathing suit and hotel towel to the spa floor. On the way over there, there is a sign that reads " Do not go to the spa in your hotel towel, as towels are handed out at the spa". Little note underneath that should have been " and when you leave the spa dripping and cold, be aware that our staff will take your towel as that one is not to leave the spa area..."
Nowhere was it stated that you had to wear a swim cap in the pool. Of course when the moment is there, you have to buy one in the hotel ( costing you € 3,- a/p ) which are too small and give you a headache.

When you are trying to have fun in the bowling area, which closes at 12.30 AM, the not having any humor man behind the bar starts telling you at 11.45 PM that he will be closing soon, also he refuses to change money after 12 AM, because it might mean that when your game is a bit longer he has to make over minutes.

Besides all these things ( read screaming and running children around the table) the lighting in the restaurant which is way to bright and un cosy and the fact that you can not have a set table for the whole week, made us decide to have dinner in Andorra la Vella the last 2 nights, even though we had paid for half board.
Besides that every evening the front office manager ( long hair in a tail) was having his dinner in the restaurant, seeing him eat ( read; both arms on the table, slurping his food inside with just a spoon ) took our apetite away completely.

There were good things though, most of the staff were extremely helpfull and courtious, especially in the bar ( Patricia) and most of the serving staff in the restaurant. The rooms were ok ( although the beds were too hard, but that could be more a personnel opinion) and very well cleaned every day. A bit strange though to still find old blankets and sheets in a room in the year 2007 instead of duvets. It would not only be more hygenic as well as a lot warmer.... ( just a tip)

Anyway, I have read all the other reviews and although they were all very positive, we will never return to this hotel again.

“Absolutely fantastic”

Hotel Nordic

We have just returned from our 3rd stay at this hotel and our 2nd this year. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Fantastic skiing for myself as a novice and my partner as an experienced skier. We have always found the staff to be very helpful and they speak better English than a lot of English people. Food is plentiful and drink in the hotel is really cheap. Whilst the pool is nothing like as big as it looks in the brochure photographs, it is clean and a nice way to relax after a hard days skiing. Cracking games room downstairs which was great fun. We met loads of great people here and we have already booked again for next year. Can't wait to return. Thanks to the Nordic once again for a perfect holiday.

“Excellent”

Hotel Nordic is an excellent hotel...you can ski in and out..the food is plentiful, I have never seen so many different sausages for breakfast...and eggs cooked different ways too..either boiled, scrambled, or freshly made omelette...delicious.

The dinner is plentiiul too, we keep guessing what else to be served...different carvery every night, from beef, lamb, chicken, pork plus every night there are many varieties of fish...we were just spoiled for choice...

there are also plenty of desserts to choose from, cakes, blanc manges, chocolate fountains etc etc. One or two evenings they served many wonderful Italian cheeses for one of the desserts...the only thing missing being British is...the cream crackers...but next day they serve Pate dish with cream crackers, so we save some of the crackers for the cheese evenings..

Staff are very friendly... the food at the bar for lunch is a bit limited. As we meet at the bar every lunch, the food is limited to square pizzas, burgers and pasta... they are basically ready made pastas and pizzas, and are not comparable to Italian pizzas and pastas, but there are not many places to meet for lunch in El Tartar, and hotel Nordic is the most convenient place to meet off slopes.

A bit disappointing is the smoking policy..unfortunately smoking in bars and lounge is still permitted, so there are still lots of people smoking

Rooms are magnificent, roomy...and beautifully set... the atrium is very nice to look at with a beautiful collection of vintage cars and motorbikes in the hall way..

Entertainment is very basic a one man band with piano..nothing to shout about the entertainment. The management could have had a better variety, but it will do.

Overall Nordic Hotel is an excellent hotel to stay, for skiers and non skiers. We enjoyed the use of the gym, swimming pool and steam room... Towels in bedroom are changed every day.and the linen is white crisply linen..

Has anybody who has been to Nordic experiences a similar hotel elsewhere in Italy say? We usually go to Italy for skiing, but for similar price, have not found a hotel to match Nordic.

We go skiing every year in late January and we go to different places every year...mostly in Italy. If we are coming back to the same hotel, Nordic would definitely be the hotel.

Thank you Nordic for a memorable holiday.

“Perfect family holiday destination!”

Hotel Nordic

Feb 24, 2007

The location, the situation, the staff, the facilities all made for a perfect family half term skiing holiday. The only downside was the icy slope conditions on a couple of days but these were helped by the many snow cannons around the resort.
The hotel is spacious and very clean. The restaurant offers excellent buffet breakfast and dinner with a superb selection for every age group....they even opened the restaurant at 1.00am for everyone who had an early departure at the end of the week.
The rooms were comfortable, not exceptionally spacious, but what do you want. We had a piste view which was great.
The hotel was full of families with children of all ages many who had returned to El Tarter and Soldeu for a number of years. The bowling alley and games room offered great entertainment in the evening. The ski school in El Tarter offered entertaining tuition with many English speaking teachers.
The whole experience was great and we will be returning next year!
