“The perfect wedding spot!”

Mopan River Resort

5 of 5 stars
Portland, Oregon
Apr 14, 2008

In January my husband and I exchanged vows here at the resort, they took care of all the details for us including any paperwork that was needed. A completely stress free wedding at a very beautiful resort! We picked out a wonderful spot on the grounds and the staff made it even more beautiful with extra flowers and decorations. It was exactly the way we wanted it. The only thing that we were a little unhappy about was that the photographer had accidentally exposed the last roll of film to light and those happened to be our favorite pictures. Fortunately we were able to photoshop a few of them.

We were there for a total of seven days and enjoyed all the tours. At first we were a little concerned about the early start times but it turned out to be the best possible way to do it. We were always the first ones to the tour sites, by the time we were leaving others were just starting to come. Made great pictures! Be sure to bring a pair of shoes you can get muddy! I'd also recommend getting a guide at Tikal.

I read one review saying food portions were small, I have no idea what they were talking about, there was always more than enough food! Dinner is buffet and there was always leftovers, lunch was not a buffet but they kept bringing out more and refilling our plates, and breakfast you order as much as you want. Oh, and there were appitizers before dinner. I don't know if I've ever eaten so much. And everything was absolutely delicious! I've stayed at all inclusives before where the food is very blah. This definitely is not.

At the resort you do tend to get to know the other guests. You eat dinner together and go on the tours together. My husband and I have never had a vacation like this before, it turns out that we actually enjoyed it. It was nice meeting people from all over and learning about their experiences. We would do it again.

“A little piece of Paradise”

Mopan River Resort

5 of 5 stars
Santo Domingo
Apr 1, 2008

We spent 2 full days (3 nights) in this small and charming resort in a remote corner of Paradise.
Everything was perfect.
Nice cabanas, clean and comfortable.
Good food sharing table with other very nice guests.
Perfect organization for excurtions , specially to Tikal.
Kim was nice and gentle. Ron was the perfect home owner.
My childen enjoyed the resort very much.
2 days are not enough to enjoy the place.
The resort lie on the shore of the quite river close to Guatemalan border.
Of course is not a 5 star resort on a crowded beach.
But it is excellent for whom they need a cultural, peaceful, friendly vacation

“HORRIBLE Honeymoon, Ok Resort, NOT All Inclusive”

Mopan River Resort

Mar 27, 2008

Overall, it was ok. My wife and I went here for our honeymoon. We were spoiled by an excellent resort on the beach, Jaguar Reef. Jaguar Reef is more expensive, but is all inclusive, Excellent Food, King size bed, and jacuzzi.

Mopan River on the other hand is NOT all inclusive, we had to pay up to $200 US for one excursion, most were about $40 US. Rooms are nice, but bed is NOT a queen even though they say it is. The bathrooms are very very small. The food is pretty good, but the portions are small.

NOT PRIVATE dining. This was a big one for us. There is a "GONG" to eat. I felt like Pavlov's dog salivating at the sound of a bell.

Kim and Ron, the owners, thought it was fun to surprise you each night with the next day's activities. In effect, we couldn't plan out the days in advance. We knew the schedule once, and Ron got mad.

Good baby boomer vacation, but NOT honeymooners.

Management Response
Mopan_River_Resort, Owner
(Management representative)
Mar 31, 2008
We are saddened that “Jim” did not enjoy all aspects of his stay at the Mopan River Resort. Unfortunately, no comments were made to the owners during the couple’s stay at the resort; otherwise, all efforts would have been made to meet the guest’s expectations for their honeymoon.

Mopan River Resort is a true All-Inclusive Resort. Included in the vacation package are all transfers to and from Belize City, luxury cabana or suite accommodations, meals, local drinks, taxes, service charges, tour transportation, and a Guide for all tour sites in Belize. No tipping is allowed on the resort. We do offer the availability of extra services not included in the package price such as massages, laundry service, selections from our wine list, private dining, etc. The Resort has special all-inclusive packages available for weddings and anniversaries, and we are always happy to customize a package to include any additional services to suit anyone’s needs. We offer three bedding arrangements; standard size twin, standard size queen and a custom size king.

Site entrance/Border fees for a 7-night stay are a total of US$112.50 cash per person. The Resort recommends that each guest brings US$150.00 to allow for some extra spending money. All our Belizean tour site entrance fees are between US$5 and US$10 per person, except the Che Chem Hah tour which is US$20 per person. The Tikal tour to Guatemala costs US$60 per person which includes the Belize border tourist departure fee, Guatemala border entrance fee, Tikal site entrance fee, and if you choose to use one, a Guide fee (we are not permitted to guide in Guatemala). All information is outlined on the Resort’s website, and in the four-page “Mopan River Resort’s Know-Before-You-Go-Guide” sent out to guests booking directly with the Resort. Included are details such as, Belize entry requirements, health, drinking water, currency, weather, what to expect during your stay, and helpful guidelines on what to pack.

Private candle lit dining on the veranda of the luxury cabana or suite is available as an extra service, and is included in our Wedding and Vow-Renewal All-Inclusive packages. Stated clearly in our literature and on the Resort’s website, all guests tour and dine together in a social setting. The evening dinner bell at 7:00 pm summons the guests to the dining area after the guests have enjoyed an hour of appetizers along with cocktails in our lounge. Dinner is a three course meal served buffet style. Portions are controlled by the guests who serve themselves. Breakfast is served in unlimited quantities and features a full menu, not just a Continental breakfast. Included are several varieties of egg dishes, toast, bacon, pancakes, etc., along with fresh fruit and fresh fruit juice(s). Lunches are two-course meals which are also served in unlimited quantity. Full-day tours include a pack lunch for each guest featuring a full selection of sandwiches, chips, cookies, and muffins. All tours are also provided with a selection of water, sodas and beer for guest enjoyment.

The tour itinerary is scheduled to provide the maximum guest enjoyment of the various tour sites, and to accommodate everyone’s preferences. The tour itinerary is set to accommodate guests staying for several days in order to avoid repetition, and to avoid large crowds and other events which may affect guest enjoyment. The tours provided by the Resort are clearly outlined on the website. The Resort’s guests enjoy hearing at dinner what tour is scheduled for the next day, and guests are informed of tours planned for the duration of their stay upon inquiry. Consultation regarding the tour schedule is conducted prior to arrival and especially with guests where health or physical disability issues will affect their enjoyment of the tours. There is always the option of not going on the tour planned for the day and instead relaxing in or around the Resort enjoying a hammock in one of the palapas, our beautiful swimming pool or wandering the resort grounds enjoying the gardens, paths or bird watch from anywhere on the grounds including the bird tower.

Mopan River Resort is a small resort that provides an intimate social setting. Guests do get quite comfortable getting to know one another and often long term friendships have been forged here. There are many places and opportunities to have special quiet time together with your loved one such as your private veranda on your luxury cabana or luxury suite, the bird tower, the gardens, the chapel, etc. Mopan River Resort is chosen as often by honeymooners as it is by guests wishing to see the sights and flora, fauna and birds of Belize. The resort provides a very romantic setting for weddings, honeymooners and even those proposing marriage.

With a maximum guest load of 24, the owners and staff enjoy the ability to get to know each guest and to provide individual attention and service. Mopan River Resort prides itself on striving to ensure each guest has the best holiday experience possible.

“A Brilliant Stay”

Mopan River Resort

Friends introduced us to the Mopan River Resort and we are most greatful to them. It was one of the most pleasant experiences. From the moment we step out of the airport, we knew we were in good hands. Upon our arrival to Benque Viejo we were met by owners Kim and Ron, hopped on the boat with them to cross the river, were taken to the lounge for the signature Banana Velvets (fabulous), introductions to others guests, dinner and off to our cabaña. The grounds are lush and accomodations lovely. The staff is so friendly, the food outstanding and the excursions exciting. Drivers/guides carry fresh, clean towels which are especially welcomed after a water adventure and plenty of cold refreshments.
The owners are gracious, insightful and just plain fun!
A great trip...Thank you Kim and Ron

Chris and John

“Terrific experience”

Mopan River Resort

Mar 2, 2008

Of all the many places we've stayed on our travels, Mopan River Resort ranks right up there with the best. The "all-inclusive rates" make this an excellent resort for those who like seeing the local attractions or just want to relax on their private verandas. We would recommend this without reservation!
