We finished a 3 /12 week vacation in Belize and Guatemala with five nights at the Mopan River Resort. My wife and I are active 60+s, who did a lot of scuba diving, snorkeling and hiking before getting to MRR. This was a great end to a very active vacation.
We thought the cabanas were incredible; spacious, comfortable, plenty private, extremely well furnished and maintained, with beautiful views of the river and gorgeous grounds. Many guests commented that the website does not do justice to the beauty of the grounds or rooms.
We enjoyed every tour, particularly Che Chem Ha; it is an amazing journey up and into that cave. I was the only guest that requested, at extra cost, a trip to the Actun Tunichil Muknal cave. Kim booked it for me with no hassle. ATM was the best cave of the trip, but be prepared for a long and very vigorous day; it is not for everybody, do your research to see if you want to try it.
We spent three nights in and on the edge of Tikal before MRR. I would strongly urge folks to spend at least one night there rather than go on a day trip. The sunrise tour is fabulous, but starts from the local hotel at 4:45am. The benefit is you see lots of the park out of the heat of the day. Sunset/moonrise is also very inspiring and we were lucky enough to catch a full moon.
In summary a great deal, a great spot, excellent food with plenty of variety. An open bar with skillfully prepared mixed drinks plus all the Belikin's you might want always stocked in your room is an additional plus.
