Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Chinzan-so

We have stayed at numerous Four Seasons Hotels domestically and outside the USA. We return because we feel we are getting cutting-age service and accomodations. We thought the room at the Chinzan-so was comfortable with the prerequistite ammenities but we had spend a few days earlier in the week at the Park Hyatt. The contrast was telling. The Park Hyatt was a slick, fine-tuned machine with ammenities and decor which were on the cutting-edge and more in tune with 2007 than the dated Four Seasons. The Chinzan-so we found shabby and dated and in need of an expensive renovation if it intends to compete with the new Penninsula and Ritz Carleton. We almost were drowned in weddings which surrounded us during the course of our stay at the Four Seasons. It appears as if the hotel is focusing more on the wedding business rather than their upgrading their hotel rooms. We felt that we were in the midst of a wedding factory.

“Fantastic experience!”

Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Chinzan-so

This is a wonderful hotel that is far superior to an average Four Seasons in the US. The staff got out of the way to assist me with my incessant questions about restaurants and my travel arrangements. I did notice that they almost always have at least one staff who is a native speaker of English on duty. (All of the local staff can speak excellent English anyway.) The cliente consisted of business people and wealthy, well-dressed locals.

The rooms are huge and bigger than a lot of hotel rooms in the US and
other countries. The bathroom is luxuriously equipped with a TV over the tub. The onsen is small but nice. I cannot rave enough about the pool area which seems like an oasis. I'd suggest guests to explore the Chinzanso garden surrounding the hotel to escape from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. Further, the Edogawabashi area is worth exploring on foot, as it has plenty of stone-paved alleys and traditional style Japanese buildings.

The only issue about this hotel is the location. It's neither right next to the JR train station (it's a 2-minute taxi ride from the Mejiro JR station) nor close to major business districts. Yet, if it were close to the station, then the hotel wouldn't have the tranquile
and private atmosphere.

This was the first place we stayed at on our trip to Japan. I was so impressed with the whole experience at this establishment. I was overwhelmed with the service which still exists in this country. The people here were very friendly and polite and their can do attitude was refreshing. The food at this hotel was outstanding! Everything I ate here tasted fresh and cooked to perfection. I am a very picky eater so perfection for me is hard to come by. I wish I could have eaten more. We were going to Kyoto at the end of our stay here and the hotel took care of taking our large luggage and having it transferred to the Mandarin. It took all of 3 minutes to get this done and it made our train ride to Kyoto much more enjoyable. They even called the Mandarin to let them know we were sending the luggage to them. I wish this hotel was closer because it would definitely be a must to visit on a regular basis. I really am not doing this justice, the service was amazing. I have travelled around the world and this country is without a doubt number one in service all around.

“Impeccable Service”

Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Chinzan-so

I travel to Tokyo for business extensively and had stayed in several hotels in Tokyo. Four Seasons at Chinzan-so is my favorite. It is a home away from home and in the last 2 years have spent 30+ nights there.
I choose to stay at this hotel despite the proximity to the office.
I appreciate the fine service at the hotel, such as welcoming back when I get out of the taxi (this started after my second visit),
room service and restaurant service which is exceptional and most importantly the fantastic pool and spa at the hotel that I use daily during my visits (only because it is so relaxing!).
The restaurants are varied and all food is excellent. The view into the gardens from the hotel is also a treat. I have never had a bad experience at this hotel. I have had better rooms ( a little too formal) in other locations, but never the service and level of comfort I find at this 4 Seasons. Overall Excellent Management.

“come to relax”

Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Chinzan-so

I started my days here at 6am with a soak in the outdoor hot tub, which is made from stone and looks very natural with tree branches arching over it and a waterfall next to it, completeing the illusion that you are in the woods, not in the world's largest city.

There is also an indoor hottub with a floor to ceiling window that looks out onto the waterfall and tranquil japanese garden. The heated pool has a glass roof and a rounded bean shape.

The rooms are quiet and comfortable. You can have breakfast overlooking the gardens. I had fruit salad, meusli and various egg dishes, all were excellent.

The concierge was helpful beyond words. Printing out maps for shopping, booking restaurant reservations and helping to ship items back to the US. No one will accept tips, which makes the sevice all the more impressive.

Do know that this hotel is at least a 30 minute cab ride from most places in tokyo. I think the location was worth the commute but I also had an expense account to put the cab rides onto.
