We stayed at this lovely hotel for 3 nights in May. It took us quite a long time to find the right location and place for our budget. Tokyo is a huge city with almost 13 million people living in the area. So you can imagine the trouble in finding the right neighbourhood to stay in for first time travellers to Japan.
We chose the Akasaka because of the good reviews on Tripadvisor. We found the reviews consistent and this hotel is great and the service is very good.
The hotel is located about a 10 minute walk from Akasaka-Mitsuke station. The walk is up a small hill or slope to the hotel, keep going past the Bentley dealership and eventually you'll find it. It's nice to head downhill to the subway on the way back.
We tried the walk down hill from Aoyama-Itchome station and it took us right past the Canadian Embassy and was about a 15 to 20 minute walk.
The rooms were clean, and small. But what do you expect in Tokyo. Washrooms come with a nice assortment of ammenities that include razors, hair clips and bath sponges along with the regular assortment. The pressure from the shower was amazing! I've never felt anything stronger and was pretty reminiscent of the episode of Seinfeld where Kramer gets that huge shower head for elephants and gets blown out of the shower.
Rooms come with a humidifier, air purifier, hot water pot, blow dryers, teas/coffee, a fridge with complimentary water, and pajamas! The pj's are soft and comfortable. The beds are comfortable and the pillows were down filled. There's a vending machine in the hallways, a beer goes for about 250 to 350 yen.
If you need a computer for internet access you can rent one from 12 pm to 12 pm only for about 1,050 yen. They don't rent them for 24 hours, just 12 pm to 12 pm only.
The area is nice and clean. A walk down the street takes you past a Lawson's convenience store a few bakeries and restaurants. A little longer walk takes you to many great restaurants, just ask the front desk for a map of the area and recommendations.
At night, it's pretty quiet because mostly politicians and government officials stay and work in the area. For a little more lively area we'd recommend Shibuja or Shin-Juku.
We were considering the B Akasaka, Monterey Honzomon, and the Prince Shinigawa. We landed at the Monterey because of price and location.
For a livelier time we'd recommend the Prince Shinigawa, it's in Shinjuku, and the area isn't as bad as the reviews state on Trip Advisor.
