Stovepipe Wells is not luxury (think '60s motel), but it was very comfortable, clean, good food, and the staff was great - especially in the dining room. The pool, spring fed and cool, was just what we needed after a long, hot day, The sand dunes and Mosaic Canyon were a short drive away, so we did the dunes after dinner the day we arrived and the canyon very early the next morning.

“Decent Motel in the Middle of the Desert”

Stayed here overnight while visiting death valley on the way to the Grand Canyon from CA. Got a deluxe room for $109, which seems like a lot, but its one of 2 motels in the middle of a huge desert, so I expected it to be a little pricey.
Room was fairly clean, decent bathroom, nice size, working TV. Air conditioner was already on when we checked in, and it made the room nice and cool, though it was 108 degrees outside at midnight. I dont remember it being any louder than the 7 other motel air conditioners we slept with on our week vacation.
We didn't hear our neighbors, but some people were hanging out on the walkways drinking beer and enjoying the desert night, which seemed really homey and fun.
The restaurant was bad - overpriced crappy food - but you dont have too many choices around - I would go to the Furnace Creek Ranch for food - they have 2 or 3 places to eat that are better. They also have more touristy stuff (like a Borax museum and a golf course) at Frnace Creek. But the gas across from Stovepipe was a dollar cheaper than at Furnace Creek - and they had a cooler general store.

“Great Hotel - Shame about the Staff - Customer Service Training Needed”

Stovepipe Wells Village

Stayed here one night as was passing through Death Valley.

Hotel Room itself and the location and the view was WONDERFUL, room was an excellent size but as stated previously by someone else, the Air Con is LOUD!!! but considering the heat it's no doubt working hard, personally we turned it off at night and just used the Ceiling Fan.

Main Issue with this location isn't the Hotel but the Staff, I've never meet such a constantly rude set of hotel staff, from the old guy at check-in, the young blonde who took over from him when he didn't know what he was doing.

The Restaurant/Bar was understanable overpriced and the food was poor to say the least. The Waiter in his mid 40's was nothing short of rude, the bus boy dropping stuff all over the place, the barman was feeling harrashed that people actually wanted serving, it resulted in an early night and a early departure in the morning so we didn't have to spend any more time there.

Speaking to a couple of other people at the pool, this seemed to be the generally view that the hotel itself was nice, but the staff all need retraining in Customer Service.

Stay at Furnace Creek.

We stayed in a deluxe room that was very big. The room was older but clean, large and new air conditioner. The room was an excellant price compaired to Sister property (furnace creek). The restaurant was excellent and fair prices..Would stay again

We booked what was described as a deluxe room only to find the only difference between standard rooms and the deluxe was a television.

The air conditioning was so loud it was impossible to sleep so we had to switch it off, which is not ideal in the desert.

This was the most expensive room and the worst of our trip. The whole place is dated and shabby.
