“Good stop along the road”

This was a small visitor center on the middle of Trail Ridge Road. Inside there were very friendly rangers who were able to answer all of our questions. There is also a small exhibit on animals in the park.

When we went there was a lot a snow piled up around the building and it was very cold and windy. There is a great view from the visitor center.

Next to the visitor center is a large gift shop with a large selection of souvenirs.

“Gorgeous scenery”

We took our two boys, ages 3 and 7 up the old highway to the Alpine Visitor Center. I recommend taking the OLD highway up to the center if your vehicle is able (we drove a Ford Expedition and made it just fine, and I saw many people in cars). It is a one-way, hair-pin turn road but has BEAUTIFUL scenery: waterfalls, gorgeous forest views, and many crystal clear streams. Since this is the more forest side of the mountains we saw less wildlife but the scenery is worth it. Taking the "newer" paved highway down you will see more of the tundra and herds of elk, etc... Our kids loved it and the views are breathtaking!
