This is an absolutely great hotel if you can afford it.
We split our time between two hotels on our trip; Sirena and then Cap Juluca. Going from what had been a mixed experience at Sirena to then arrive at Cap Juluca probably enabled us to really see how you can have a truly great hotel stay in a small island.
Positives
From the point we arrived we felt like we were in a high class hotel which was small enough to feel personalised. Great welcome in the main house, welcome drinks, help with luggage until room ready, personally walked to beach and introduced to a beach attendant to help get us set up for the first day........
The attention to detail was fantastic; continental breakfast in your room daily (you have to request to go to the restaurant!), cooler boxes with water brought to you on the beach and beach towels, exceptional service in restaurants and easily available water sports (water skiing, hobies, kayaks and snorkelling). However, this is what you should expect for what you pay. The rooms were well designed and the impact of opening your folding doors each morning so that you can see the great view of the sea and beach were very memorable. Very good room service (maid visits twice a day) and fridge stocked up with beer, soft drinks and water for your arrival.
We ate at George's restaurant on the first day for lunch and then again for the Monday night special 'cook off' which was very enjoyable. Kemia and Pimms were the evening restaurant options and both offered very good service and high quality food (something the island offered as well based on where we ate). We also had a private dinner on the beach on our last night........hard to top!!
Good spa experience and gym was a good size and well equipped.
Staff were very friendly and very helpful everywhere in particular at the front desk where they helped with some very specific requests.
Beach was great, very clear blue sea and beds/umbrellas well spaced out so had a good feeling of space to enjoy the experience.
Negatives
Hard to really find any about the resort. I think the main thing to watch is the total price for the stay. Whilst you acknowledge that you are staying somewhere expensive the final bill has a number of extra charges which seem to be common on the island so not just experienced at Cap Juluca but it does mean that the final bill will be higher than you expect. The extra charges include a standard service charge per night per room, and the service charge is then also added to restaurant costs and beach drinks. This is at 15% a time so it does add up!!
Would totally recommend to anyone.
