This is the fifth family-run self-catering lodging I’ve stayed in in the Caribbean over the past 3 years. I’d been very pleased with the previous four, and compared with them, when I first saw my small one-bedroom at the inn, I thought I’d made a terrible mistake: laminate peeling off all cabinetry, cabinet doors that wouldn’t close, beat-up small appliances (except for a brand-new coffeemaker), walls in need of touch-up, broken window mechanism, terrace rails badly in need of refurbishing. The grounds and building exteriors could use some sprucing up and better maintenance, too.
But as the days went by, I came to appreciate the pluses: thick soft towels, spacious bathroom with large shower and excellent water pressure, good air conditioning in bedroom, very comfy mattress. Enjoyed being near the water (even though the view of St. Martin was over an ugly rooftop), and the modest beach is good for unwinding and a quick dip. The innkeeper thoughtfully provided some starter groceries that were much appreciated: bread, cheese, fruit, juice, water, and crackers. A huge perk is the inclusion of a beach umbrella, basic beach chairs, and a cooler. The location is very convenient to some of the island's most beautiful beaches, and the ferry is within walking distance.
I did get to see the large one-bedrooms, and they are something else entirely. Absolutely everything is in fine condition and quite attractive, and they offer Internet access. Even if you don’t need the extra space, spring for one of the big apartments. Unless you hear that the small ones have been renovated, I’d suggest staying away from them.
