“Wedding notes/Great spa”

Galley Bay Resort

Jun 24, 2008

Had our wedding at Galley Bay with just the two of us. I would only recommend this venue for a wedding if you are easy going. I had to repeat my requests a number of times and my date and requests were not even booked when I got there even though I had it verified twice. The wedding coordinators never contacted me to see if I needed anything or to tell me what was happening. The only one who offered assistance was the pool girl.

The spa at Galley Bay was great. I had a facial, massage and a couples coconut massage. All were excellent in their new spa location by the lagoon.

I will not repeat what has already been said, I found most of it to be true. The people of Antigua have great spirits and truly treat tourists with respect.

“Fifth visit to Paradise!!”

Galley Bay Resort

Jun 22, 2008

We have just returned from our fifth visit to Galley Bay - we now call it our second home. We have travelled all over the world but this is the only hotel that we come back to time and time again.

As usual we stayed in the smaller beachfront rooms - number 2 this year - and in only five steps were straight into the sea. We have stayed in the larger premium rooms in the past but just prefer to be a bit nearer to the sea. Also the sea is just divine with no rocks - you are even right next to the bar if you need a cooling cocktail!

The food,as previously mentioned in other reviews, is divine. Andrew, the chef, has been there for several years now and we met him again this year. Every year he seems to excel himself.

The newly built accommodation and Ismay Restaurant have not altered the of Galley Bay. The hotel was about 70-80% full when we were there, but we didn't have to wait for anything. None of the three restaurants had a queue and we had nothing but personal service the whole time we were there.

Quite a few people got married while we were there - I can't think of a more romantic setting.

All in all, Galley Bay truly is paradise. We are aready saving for our next visit.

The only very small niggle - which is outside the control of the hotel - is the mosquitos. We were bitten quite a few times and the repellant we took didn't seem to work. Apparently it is better to buy the local stuff when you arrive from the hotel shop.

Apart from that the whole holiday was perfection. Keep our room ready for next time!!!

“Amazing Honeymoon”

Galley Bay Resort

Jun 20, 2008
4/4 found this review helpful

My wife and I spent an amazing 2 weeks at this beautiful hotel for our honeymoon and had the holiday of a lifetime.

All the numerous reviews below tell you of how amazing this hotel is, and it is difficult for me to add anything else other than to endorse the Galley Bay as simply the best place that my wife and I have been to on holiday.

We chose the Galley Bay because we wanted to have a relaxing honeymoon in a romantic and stunning setting - we got that in spades. My parents came back from the Galley Bay in May 2007 (see review on 14th May by Shalpaddockwoodkent) and could not speak highly enough of the place. They have been on some excellent holidays over the years, but they say that the Galley Bay was their best and it is the only place that they have ever booked to return to – that is why we booked the Galley Bay for our honeymoon and we were not disappointed.

The Galley Bay more than exceeded our expectations. The food was out of this world, the staff so kind, polite, helpful and friendly, the beach and water simply beautiful and the scenery on the island was stunning. When we booked the holiday I thought that the cost was expensive, but having enjoyed the amazing facilities and eaten like a king for 2 weeks I consider that I got value for money. The quality of the food and drink that most couples will have each day would easily cost over £100 per day in England - and that is conservative. Throw in the cost of flights, transfers accommodation, and facilities and I feel that you actually get value for money.

You can do as much or as little as you like on the island. The Hotel has enough facilities to keep you entertained (Tennis, gym, bikes, table tennis, fishing in the lagoon, numerous water sports on the beach, swimming pool library and internet/computer room) and all for free. At guest services there is a huge amount of trips and excursions to choose from if you want to get out and about as well as numerous taxi's on hand at the main reception. We did the Montserrat helicopter trip, Jeep Island safari and the Eco Boat trip. All were simply excellent and a great way to see and learn more about the island.

I can not speak highly enough of the Galley Bay and Antigua. It was simply beautiful and we definitely plan to return - perhaps for an anniversary in the future. We thought it was worth every penny.

“Paradise doesn't get better than this!”

Galley Bay Resort

Like Janie below (who we met out there - Hi) we too started with 5 days in New York at the Waldorf Astoria and thought that was brilliant, but when our taxi drove through the gates at Galley Bay and the driver said "Welcome to Paradise" he wasn't joking! Our Premium Beachfront Suite was huge and well appointed and from the patio, you stepped straight onto the sand and after 20 paces or so were in the clear blue warm sea. It was my "special" birthday while we were there and my wish was to see white sand, palm trees, bright blue sea and fishes - I got my wish and more. We also renewed our wedding vows in the little white pavillion on the beach - the staff were great and we couldn't fault them at all. We spoke to many people who had been to numerous Caribbean 4 & 5* hotels and their view was that you could not beat Galley Bay. I would second that! The drinks are all premium brands and the cocktails are divine - I recommend the Antigua Kiss and the Banana Slide!!! MY tip is to go for the best quality room you can afford as that will increase your enjoyment of this Paradise. We will certainly return as we are now worried that we cannot top perfection!

“Just returned home from second visit”

Galley Bay Resort

5 of 5 stars

We have just returned from our second visit to Galley Bay (27/5 - 10/6).

This time we took our two daughters and their fiance's. On arrival we were all upgraded to Premier Suites - Wonderful.

Majority of the staff are warm, friendly and great fun and helpful. There's Gilda who went and and collected our test match cricket tickets for us, Joycelyn who was always so helpful, Richard and Vaughn to name but a few.

There is always the odd one who could learn how to smile!.

Since our last visit there have been extra rooms added and a new restaurant. Even with the extra rooms the resort is till not crowded.

During this visit the sea was calm and we were able to swim everyday, there is good snorkelling off the beach near the Gaugain restaurant.

We ate in all three restaurants and did not have one bad meal, although my husband never did manage to get a green salad with his main course - he gave up asking after 3 days!.

We did go sea fishing on 'Overdraft' and sailing with 'Jabberwocky' both booked direct before we left home. I would recommend both of these.

The rain forest canopy trip is for the brave and fit, i gave up after the first zip line!

The hotel has a wonderful lady taxi driver 'Joycie', whenever we went anywhere we always asked for her.

Looks like the hotel is going to build another swimming pool near to the new rooms, but not sure when this will be completed.

We had a wonderful holiday and are already planning our return in 2009 - can't wait.
