Our family stayed at Waterloo House in May 2005. We were very pleased with our room-Upper Water Lodge, I believe. It was apart from the main
hotel, a deluxe suite, beautifully furnished and it had the most comfortable bed that I think I have ever slept in while travelling. A wonderful harbor view. The only thing that hampered the view was an office building? that was being built to the right of the hotel. It blocked the view down the bay and the construction noise was noticable a few times during the day in the diningroom. Overall the hotel is very quaint and tastefully decorated.
The staff was very courteous and helpful. We especially enjoyed our chats with them and it gave us an idea of what Bermuda was actually like to live in. Minor problems were addressed satisfactorily-a plumbing problem in the bathroom and an incidence with ants. However they were not quickly dealt with. Also a few times we had to wait to have our suite tidied.
The food was very good. The continental breakfast-although we sometimes ordered from the menu which added to our bill, afternoon tea which was exceptional and served in a beautiful yellow and blue room with wicker-a wonderful memory and dinner was also very beautifully presented.
Our only complaint was a couple of evenings our regular sitting place in the main diningroom was given to visiting day clientele and being on the meal plan we were seated in a far corner of the diningroom.
Waterloo House has a great location and despite reviews that I have read here, we thought that the shopping in Bermuda was commendable. There was quality in the items that you bought at a very good price-eg. jewellry, leather goods and clothing.
We had dinner at Coral Beach one evening. Very nice! We enjoyed its location and have decided to stay on the beach on the South Shore for our return visit. BTW, there was not a shuttle service between Coral Beach and Waterloo House when we were there. We took a taxi there to use the beach and the evening that we had dinner there.
Bermuda is a beautiful and magical place for a holiday-we have wonderful memories and we will return next year. Oh-by the way a bus pass which can be used on the ferry is a must buy in the airport and a visit to the Swizzle Inn is highly recommended.
