We stayed at the Farimont Hamilton Princess for three nights over Memorial weekend - the cost per room including taxes was over $500 per night. For that we did not get a sea view - unless we craned our neck over our balcony around the new buildings.
On our second day we returned to the room to discover it had not been serviced at all by 6pm - when we called to enquire we were told that all the day staff had gone home and that we would have to wait until the night staff came on. We were offered a drink at the bar to compensate but when we checked out the drinks were included in our bill! Furthermore we were asked at check out whether our stay had been alright and when I explained the problems we had had she just went on to the next question which was "is the bill ok?! - ie she wasnt really interested in our views on their service at all - they already had our money.
Visitors to Bermuda should already be aware that Bermuda is behind much of the rest of the luxury market when it comes to quality hotels. The Fairmont is probably one of the top hotels on the island - and it is certainly a good serviceable hotel with high quality rooms and facilities but for the price one coudl stay in a five star hotel with top class service anywhere else in the world. One thing to watch out for is that on Friday nights it becomes the locals drinking place - so is very busy outside on the terrace with young people drinking as much as they can - so if you have a harbour view room - don't expect an early night on a Friday - or to have a quiet dinner on the terrace!
