“Bermuda Paradise!”

The Fairmont Southampton

New Jersey

Just got back and wished we were still there. Hurricane Bertha had it's sights on Bermuda but missed, just created a day of rain(much needed by the island). The hotel management gave constant written updates on the Hurricane and kept us informed. Enough of that. How about amazing ocean views, fun beach, Horseshoe Bay Beach next door, free ferry rides into Hamilton. Daily events include golfing on the property, snorkeling, Crystal Caves adventure. Aquariums, Snorkel Park, you get the picture. A lot of interesting things to do, absolutely beautiful island. In regards to the hotel, grand! The room featured a large closet, nice separate bathroom/ sink area and in excellent cleanliness and condition. As far as hotel personnel, everyone and I mean everyone was kind and helpful. Treating the Bermudians kindly and with respect gets you paid back many times over. Loved this hotel and everything about it.

“Overall good, but some problems”

Overall I had a pleasant stay at this hotel. I stayed there the first week in July and they weren't very busy. There was talk of closing down two entire floors, because they did not have enough business. The beach there is really nice with all the amenities like food, drinks, showers, restrooms, etc. After a couple days it got really crowded on the beach, especially on July 4. People had to wait a long time to get chairs and umbrellas. The water there is calm, but a bit cold. Horseshoe Bay is literally right next door. If you take the little path by the parking area you can walk right onto Horseshoe Bay beach. My room was on the third floor. I could see the ocean and the lighthouse off to the right from the balcony. The lighthouse is about a 15 minute walk through the hotel gardens and down Harbour View Road, and then take a right up to the lighthouse. The view up there is fantastic! What I liked about my room was the huge walk-in closet, nice marble bathroom, double sinks. It was decorated very nicely too. As for complaints I had a couple about the Jasmine lounge (bar). One night a drunk obnoxious guy was bothering me and the bartender did nothing to stop him. I like to sit at the bar and enjoy a quiet drink without some drunk guy trying to pick me up - I'm not into that. The next night one of the bartenders had a bad attitude and mixed my drink WAY too strong. When I complained his reply was that the weak ones are no good. Well, I have to say this: It was the nastiest tasting rum swizzle I've ever had in Bermuda, but I managed to finish it. Without even asking me the bartender made me a second drink. When I stated that I hadn't asked for another one he said:"Oh, just relax and have fun!" He told the guests at the bar that if someone sings that person would get free drinks. I wonder what management would say about that! I felt like I was in some cheap redneck dive. That bartender did not display the professionalism and politeness that I've been accustomed to from the Fairmont. I've also stayed at their sister property in Hamilton and would actually prefer that, but I wanted to be close to the beaches. A few more things - some of the guests liked to run up and down the hallway in the wee hours of the morning, laughing and shouting. I was woken up a few times by the noise. Sometimes it sounded like a herd of elephants was running down the hall. Housekeeping did a great job overall, but I hated it when the maid fiddled with my thermostat and turned it down to a chilly 66 degrees. I've noticed the same thing in a couple of other hotels in Bermuda.

“Be aware of rooms with”

The Fairmont Southampton

2 of 5 stars
New York, NY
Jul 13, 2008

We stayed at Fairmont Southampton two years ego. We had a moderate room on the first floor with the bay view. The room was little noisy from the air conditioning below but the view was good and we enjoyed our stay. That is why we wanted to go back this year.

I and my wife just came back from staying at Fairmont Southampton for five nights. Unfortunately we did not have great time at this time since our room looked at the roof of the service building next door with limited natural light. We did not expect to have this kind of room after paying more than $450 per night. I think that the hotel should improve the view on the first floor in this side of the wing (or close this side where room # 190 is located) if they do not want to lose customers. These rooms are not worth $450 plus per night.

We requested a room change but we were told that no other room was available even we checked in at 12 noon. After two nights and a second request, they moved us to a room with the bay view but we had to have two twin beds instead of a king size bed we requested. It was a better room but I will be very careful to book another vacation with Fairmont Southampton. To be fair, we loved the hotel’s private beach, good restaurants and ferry service to Hamilton. The food is expensive but it is expensive everywhere in Bermuda.

“One of a kind and Fabulous!”

My husband and I are just back from a 5 night stay and we're already talking about when we'll be going back! We loved this hotel....The staff and service were wonderful, our room had a lovely view, swimming was relaxing, and the beach is unbeatable. The food is pricey but worth it.

The one negative this year was there were more than the usual number of Portugese man o wars in the water in July and that made snorkeling stressful, though we were able to spot them and avoid them.

having been back just over a week iam am planning my next trip. some recent reviews have suprised me. The only negative we had with this hotel was the repetitious entertainment in the main lounge. The hotel is brilliant and the staff courteous i would recommend it to anyone.
