Overall I had a pleasant stay at this hotel. I stayed there the first week in July and they weren't very busy. There was talk of closing down two entire floors, because they did not have enough business. The beach there is really nice with all the amenities like food, drinks, showers, restrooms, etc. After a couple days it got really crowded on the beach, especially on July 4. People had to wait a long time to get chairs and umbrellas. The water there is calm, but a bit cold. Horseshoe Bay is literally right next door. If you take the little path by the parking area you can walk right onto Horseshoe Bay beach. My room was on the third floor. I could see the ocean and the lighthouse off to the right from the balcony. The lighthouse is about a 15 minute walk through the hotel gardens and down Harbour View Road, and then take a right up to the lighthouse. The view up there is fantastic! What I liked about my room was the huge walk-in closet, nice marble bathroom, double sinks. It was decorated very nicely too. As for complaints I had a couple about the Jasmine lounge (bar). One night a drunk obnoxious guy was bothering me and the bartender did nothing to stop him. I like to sit at the bar and enjoy a quiet drink without some drunk guy trying to pick me up - I'm not into that. The next night one of the bartenders had a bad attitude and mixed my drink WAY too strong. When I complained his reply was that the weak ones are no good. Well, I have to say this: It was the nastiest tasting rum swizzle I've ever had in Bermuda, but I managed to finish it. Without even asking me the bartender made me a second drink. When I stated that I hadn't asked for another one he said:"Oh, just relax and have fun!" He told the guests at the bar that if someone sings that person would get free drinks. I wonder what management would say about that! I felt like I was in some cheap redneck dive. That bartender did not display the professionalism and politeness that I've been accustomed to from the Fairmont. I've also stayed at their sister property in Hamilton and would actually prefer that, but I wanted to be close to the beaches. A few more things - some of the guests liked to run up and down the hallway in the wee hours of the morning, laughing and shouting. I was woken up a few times by the noise. Sometimes it sounded like a herd of elephants was running down the hall. Housekeeping did a great job overall, but I hated it when the maid fiddled with my thermostat and turned it down to a chilly 66 degrees. I've noticed the same thing in a couple of other hotels in Bermuda.
