Being used to luxury hotels of greater size and with more amenities.I was not sure how I was going to react to a boutique hotel.
All the rooms are junior suites and I was on the ground floor so was able to walk straight from my room onto the beach.
The bed was extremely comfortable,vital for a restful holiday.The room had plenty of space with a seating area and a patio.
There is internet access free for wireless users in the lobby area ,and a modest $85 for 7 days with a wire in your room if you take a laptop.
The Ambassadors as they are known look after restaurant bookings and massages etc and were generally very efficient.Like everywhere else you have to find the one who best suits you!
The biggest plus being a small hotel was the fact I was not turfed out of my room until I left 3.30pm,making the last day enjoyable.
Breakfast is fresh fruit,toast croissants,eggs etc.It does not try to be like a resort hotel!The afternoon tea which is complementary is a nice touch,a couple of sandwiches,cake and scones.Water is provided free,at your sunbed.
The other guests when I was there were genuinely friendly and swapped their experiences of restaurants around the island.
Outside the hotel there is plenty to see.The highlights for me were Harrison's cave and St Nicholas's abbey,At the latter there is a film about the making of sugar,but if you read between the lines it is about the evil of the slave trade(very subtle!!)
Turning to eating out.The restaurant at South sea was my favourite.Fish is the staple everywhere,though you can eat meat(I am normally a carnivore),but with such fresh fish-there is no point!!
If you like a family run hotel free of kids,this is a great location!

There are no words i can find to describe the house but excellent, from the fresh fruit and ice creams served on the beach and the (to die for rum punches) to the wonderfull afternoon tea.
The decor of the rooms were beautiful i especially loved the pictures and the soft and comfortable beds. The Ambassadors were all wonderfull especially Ashley who took care of us even before we got to the hotel and up to the day we had departed, he had also made some wonderful suggestions for some restaurants which i can higly recommend. The Cliff, Wispers, The Tides, Scarlets, Fishspot and the lonestar.
Overall we had a wonderful time in barbados and we will be back next year.

Lovely people and great service .... Loved the atmosphere .
But , if you remove all that , the building look likes a 3 stars hotel ...It was the extension of the coral reef which was transformed in a luxury house ....Bathrooms/bedrooms are still 3 stars only unfortunately ...

Otherwise , loved it for the service ....fantastic people ...very nice .

The house hotel is beautiful...specially at night...the lounge area has comfortable chairs and the beach chairs are nice. The rooms are comfortable but extrange baths with one door and the water spills into the bathroom, also noisy toilets...there are a couple of problems to fix...the jacuzzy next to the pool makes a terrible sound which disturbs the tranquil ocean sounds ...also it is not hot...the ambiance is nice...just couples sitting around enjoying the sun and having drinks...the blender was broken so no frozen drinks..the ambassadors are nice and try their best to make you feel comfortable but this area also needs some work. the best part of the hotel is the afternoon tea...the breakfast is mediocre.......the beach area, although semi private, is very small and has a lot of rocks and coral...Overall the hotel has potential, but definately needs some work specially for guest who know better...there is no local food near by...and you need to take a taxi to go anywhere...the food that is available in the island is great, but very expensive even for NY standards. First time in barbados, next time will try Sandy Lane....
