Pirates Inn came to our rescue on this holiday. We had previously booked another hotel (New Edgewater) based on its advertising - but found it a disaster!
In desperation tried Pirates Inn where we had stayed 4 years ago and they were able to take us for the remaining week.. We remembered it as a basic place - clean, comfortable, but a bit hot as the overhead fan was not much use. We were delighted to find the owners had made steady improvements during our absence and the studio was now bigger, better equipped, and provided with air conditioning which meant that the windows could be kept closed at night and mosquito bites thus minimised! It was also cheaper than the hotel we had just left!
Staying at Pirates Inn is like staying with a family - everyone was very friendly and we noticed they had the same staff that were there last time which was encouraging as staff don't stay where they are unhappy.
The studio apartments are self catering - 4 ring gas cooker, electric grill, microwave, toaster and decent sized fridge/freezer, though finding somewhere to plug the toaster in required a degree of ingenuity as its lead was only a foot long and there was no convenient socket (the American 110v system is used).
There is an en-suite bathroom which was clean and modern with replacement towels whenever you wanted; the bedcovers, cushions and curtains were fresh, bright and matching, and the room was spotless with the floor being mopped every day. Some of the furniture would benefit from replacement, but I am sure this will happen in due course.
Supermarkets are within easy access. If you don't want to eat in all the time, the hotel provides meals at very reasonable prices (2 flying fish sandwiches and 2 cokes = $22 = £5.50, a full breakfast for $18 = £4.50, or a full main course for $24 = £6) You would be pushed to get that value in the UK! Drinks are also very reasonable, especially during the half price 6-7pm happy hour when two rum punches costs $6 = £1.50. Try finding those pricesin a pub.
Pirates Inn is handily situated on the South coast within easy walking distance of Rockley beach - this will be all the more accessible when the boardwalk which is under construction along the coast is completed. Bridgetown and nightlife in St Lawrence is easy to get to and a shopping plaza with bank is 50 yards away. Bus services operate along the main road nearby. The hotel has a small pool which won't satisfy an olympic swimmer, but is all you need to cool off after a session on one of the sunbeds.
If you wany 5 star luxury go elsewhere, but if you want a good, clean, honest, value-for-money place, you would have to look very hard to do better. We will certainly be going back there as we are so impressed - and this from someone who lived on the island for 20 years!
If the management wishes to give us a discount on our next visis for this write-up - thanks in advance!.
