** This is my attempt to continue the TripAdvisor legacy of Little Arches. We read this site religiously before booking our honeymoon, and could not have been more pleased with the results....
We arrived on a late, 3.5-hour Sunday night flight from Miami. Instead of hailing a taxi, we had arranged for the hotel to book a driver for us that evening -- Michael, of Parris Taxi Service, was waiting for us after we got out of customs. With the hotel's front desk only open from 7a-10p, Michael found the hotel's nightwatchman and got our room key without a problem.
We stayed in Room 1, Union Island, complete with a kitchen and private balcony with jacuzzi. There was a lovely note and a small bottle of Mount Gay Rum waiting for us. Everything was exceptionally clean and beautiful. Of the two front rooms (ours and Room 2, Palm Island), we had more privacy -- we walked by their balcony to get to ours. I doubt they were bothered the whole week, tho. Three quick notes on our room: the shade next to the vanity did not completely cover the window, the bathroom could use some more ventilation, and the jacuzzi was serviceable (temperature-wise) but the jets didn't do much.
In the morning, we checked in with the front desk. Cherisse could not have been more kind -- genuinely friendly, as were all of the folks there (Liz and Emma on the desk; Sandra the manager; Sylvester, Rose and everyone else). It was clear that for the rest of the week, they would take care of our every whim.
We had breakfast every morning (free w/ 7-night stay) that was simply wonderful. We also ate three dinners at Cafe Luna and enjoyed all of them. Our favorite meals away included the Oistins Fish Fry (short walk to THE Friday night event on the island) and Surfers Bay (tucked away on a beach in a neighborhood just to the east; Michael recommended it for the low-key atmosphere, and the food was outstanding).
For the location, you are right in front of a beach that more than one local said was their favorite on the island. A simple call to the front desk, and beach chairs are on their way down to the sand for you. The beaches on the southern side of the island have enough waves to make them fun (unlike west), but not enough to make them dangerous (unlike east). You're also right off the bus line, which makes for an adventurous way to get anywhere on the southwest coast (Bridgetown, St. Lawrence, etc.). We never felt unsafe on the island, as most everyone was extremely nice.
The hotel set us up to play a round of golf at Barbados Golf Club and take a catamaran (sp?) ride (thanks to Timothy and Stevenson on the Silver Moon). Both were well worth it. We also rented a car for a couple of days, which allowed us the freedom to get to Earthworks Pottery, Bathsheba and the Crane -- all worth seeing. Driving was quite the adventure. You drive on the left without too many street signs, sub-par maps and a lot of potholes on narrow roads.
Overall, the people make Little Arches an absolute dream destination. They went out of their way to make sure everything was taken care of on our honeymoon, and we had an amazing time. I could keep going and going, but you're tired of reaching and I'm tired of writing. Drop a note if you have any questions....
