We went to Curacao for a long weekend, and had a little bit of trouble to find the right Hotel for us, which was in an average price range. Mostly we got the answers, that we couldn't stay at certain hotels, since we were not staying more than 4 nights.
So we found the Landhuis Daniel, and were a bit desperate at that tine already...... Fortuately we got a positive response and a confirmed booking.
We had a rental car, which I recommend for a stay at the Landhuis. It is out of town, out in the countryside, but really worth it.
You can coose between a little room seperated from the main house, or you take a room at the plantation house, in which one of the greatest restaurants I ever ate in is located......
We had a room at the plantation house, with a/c and own small bathroom. It is very cute though, since you don't find this architecture in the Caribbean so much. It was very clean and comfortable.
They have a pool and a nice garden with colorful flowers. They do sell Orchids aswell.
The staff is very nice and very helpful. Since we are Germans living in Trinidad, we bought a lot of food in the supermarkets (since they have European products there). SOme of the stuff needed to be cooled and we were offered to store our things in the restaurants fridge.

The hotels gourmet restaurant has really reasonable prices and, as I already mentioned, the best food I ever ate (except for Italy... But thats a different thing!). And even the "Pannekoeken" for breakfast are fantastic!

We would not only recommend this Hotel to anybody going to Curacao, we would definately come back there, and in fact we just got the confirmation for a long weekend in may....

    • Liked — the cute rooms and the architecture of the house, the landscaping and style, the food!!!!
    • Disliked — I would say, the pool scene could have been a bit more clean. But we didn't use it anyhow.

“Nice for the Money”

After staying for 6 nights at the Kura Hulanda Hotels me and my wife needed to save some money. As well, we were dying to see what all the fuss was over the Landuis's. These historic places are all over Curacao and to my knowledge Daniel is one of the only registered Lanhuis's where guests can stay. --- Daniel is no luxury hotel. It's historic with wood floors, fans, huge doors. It is also rustic: only some rooms have A/C, no TV's, lighting is not that great, etc . . . Also, don't expected to be pampered. The hotel staff also run the very popular restaurant. They did not seem to have alot of time for their hotel guests and they dont seem to speak that great of English. --- This is a great place to stay if you want to sleep and get a change of pace. But there's not alot to do here and no real amenities.
--- But for the money me and my wife liked Daniel and the historic feel. The Restaurant is also very good and cheaper than most!!!

“Sleeping at the Restaurant!”

Landhuis Daniel

This Landhuis is definitely a restaurant with rooms, rather than a hotel. As others have said, the food is fantastic although we dod have a problem on a couple of nights getting service in the restaurant as it can become very busy. The accommodation is basic. Yes there is aircon in some rooms (you have to specify if you want it), but the so-called en suite bathroom is simply a corner of the bedroom partitioned off, and not to full ceiling height. There is therefore little privacy. The shower hardly ever works as the water pressure is so poor that if someone else is running a tap you cannot get any water in your room. The surrounding gardens and the pool were all looking a little dilapidated. The pool furniture was filthy and there were weeds growing between the tiles around the pool. I wouldn't let any of this put you off if you don't particularly need 5-star accommodation. The room was certainly adequate. The Landhuis Daniel is out in the country and you will need a car to get around.

“Amazing Food”

Landhuis Daniel

We had a great stay at the Landhuis Daniel. The dinners were absolutely amazing, some of the best food we've ever had, and were a good value. They even had a couple of really good vegetarian options.

Definitely keep in mind that this inn is out in the country, away from Willemstad, and is somewhat rustic. Some rooms have A/C. I think all the rooms have private bathrooms, but I'd definitely suggest requesting a room with the bathroom actually inside the room.

When we checked out, we were amazed by how low our bill was.

The hotel has a laundry service, which was very convenient for us.

Most of the guests seemed to be from the Netherlands.

All in all, a great stay. We hope to return.

“Best food in Curaçao”

Landhuis Daniel

When I planned the trip to Curaçao with my girlfriend, I read on Frommer's website about this place being "the best cost/value hotel in Curaçao". Since we were in a budget, I decided to contact Jan (owner/chef) and made a reservation. What a good decision. Room was small but with AC and comfy enough to sleep and having a shower. Just $65usd per night.

But the high note definitely goes to the food. Best I had in Curaçao and probably best I've ever had in any of my trips. Jan is an excellent cook and cooking is his passion, you can easily tell by how the food is prepared and served. A mediterranean style cuisine with a caribbean touch. Every day we started with a pannekoeken with fruit for breakfast. At night we returned for a fabolous dinner accompanied by a cold Belgian beer (10 different to choose from). What else could you ask for? Well, actually there's something better to ask for: a surprise menu. On our last night in Curaçao, we had this option. You tell Jan what you like/what you don't and he prepares a surprise 4-time special menu for you. Simply exquisite. Salmon, beef, pheasant, fruit cake... all cooked in excellent and different ways. And for only $32usd p/p. Wow! I can easily imagine paying no less than $100usd p/p in a restaurant in NY, London or Paris for a menu like this one.

So, if you want to have the best food in Curaçao without emptying your wallet, just go to this place. Better yet, stay here and enjoy good hospitality also.
