“Wedding in a million at Fort Young”

Fort Young Hotel

Aug 29, 2007
9/17 found this review helpful

We booked our wedding package in April and Ms Ruby Robinson who was the co ordinator was very professional and efficient. The hotel rooms that we stayed in were deluxe sea view which had breathtakingviews. For the past few years we have cruised with Princess Cruises and have seen views but these were magnificent and the sound of the sea beating against the rocks at night was so relaxing. I ordered room service once and was very pleased with the quality of the food as well as the delivery time. The breakfast was eat as much as you like with a good variety for all.

The wedding went like a dream and I managed to get a local photographer who delivered all our photos THE NEXT DAY! The views in the hotel were picturesque and I attach a few pictures for your information.

I would not think twice about recommending the hotel to friends and family. I was quite surprised that one of the reviews criticised the hotel but was not surprised that the person was from the US. Unfortunately a lot of Americans like America so much, that when they go on holiday they want everything the same as at home! The best thing to do, if this is the case, is to STAY AT HOME!

Enjoy each country that you visit and be open minded, take the positives away with you and keep smiling. I do!!

“Fort Young Hurricane Care”

Fort Young Hotel

5 of 5 stars
Richmond, VA

13/13 found this review helpful

My family and myself had the opportunity to stay at the Fort Young Hotel this month during Hurricane Dean. We checked into 2 rooms with spectacular views on August 14th 2007. The care, concern and "service with a smile" that the staff and management delivered during the storm was absolutely remarkable. All the guests were checked on regularly throughout the day. The staff and management all ran around during the storm in hard hats to ensure the guest safety. Yes, there were some leaks as the wind howled, the waves smashed and the rain pelted down on the island. Fort Young Hotel maintained electricity and they did a great job at rationing the water supply to esure that guests had opportunity to attend to daily hygiene. The island remained without water and electricity for 3 days and in some cases for 5 days. There were other hotels where most of the staff and management left the guest to their own devise during and after the storm. The staff delivered service with a smile in the eye of the storm. Many guest complained that laundry was not done during the storm. Imagine the nerve of the staff, not washing during a water outage!!

The General Manager, Mr. Louis Julien seemed to be everywhere before, during and after the storm. His staff and himself appeared to motivate each other and I was impressed.

Kudos and congratulations to THE FORT YOUNG HOTEL management and a great staff.

“Simply the Best”

Fort Young Hotel

I stayed at Fort Young for the weekend in August. The staff was really very pleasant. The deluxe oceanfront room was so well tailored. The decor was simple but effective. The food is to die for. The Bath & Body Works accessories just placed the room over the top. I had a wonderful time. I fell asleep to the sound of the waves. I really loved it. I'm going to return to Fort Young and stay longer.

“An outstanding hotel on the nature island”

Fort Young Hotel

We stayed at Fort Young during the July "off season" of 2007. We booked a Deluxe Oceanfront Room, and couldn't have been happier! The room was immaculate and well maintained. The view of Scott's Head (to the north) from the private balcony was lovely.

The activities coordinator, Sonya, was incredibly helpful. She not only set up some group trips for us, but helped us with detailed information about the island.

The restaurant is quite passable. Breakfasts were buffet-style, but with an excellent selection of fresh fruits and the ubiquitous passion fruit juice. Dinners were very good, though it was nice to head out to other local restaurants for a change.

The only complaint (and it's a very minor one) was that the bar staff weren't particularly friendly. It was in stark contrast to every other person we met in Dominica... some of the most genuinely friendly and most helpful people you will ever meet!

“Beautiful place to relax!”

Fort Young Hotel

The view from the Deluxe Oceanfront room was wonderful. Dominica is an island filled with spectacular, picturesque, natural scenery. It has numerous hiking trails and waterfalls. You must relax in one of the many natural warm water springs. If you are looking to get away from the overally saturated tourist traps of other islands, Dominica is the place to go.

As far as the hotel goes, I enjoyed my stay. My room was clean and spacious. The staff was friendly and referred to me by name. Everyone seemed interested in making my stay a good experience. The place was quiet and scenic. Some of the best views in Dominica can be found simply milling around the hotel pool and veranda.

You can plan tours directly from the hotel. Although, you could probably find cheaper rates off site. The food was delicious! I wanted to see more entertainment in the evenings. They had live music only on 2 of the 5 nights I stayed there. But, overall I had a great time and will return soon!
