“Needs the renovation”

Paradise Beach Club & Casino

3 of 5 stars
Fredericksburg, VA
Apr 20, 2008

Want to start by saying that this review will soon be outdated. The resort is closing from May 08 – October 08 to be renovated. However, I decided to still review the resort because I am not sure how much of a face lift the resort is getting.
First I will start out with the good:
• The beaches are magnificent that surround the resort.
• The resort is close to the airport.
• The layout of the resort is very pretty. Guest can stretch out without stumbling over one another.
• The resort is very kid friendly. They have a playground a kid’s pool, special events for children including movie night 3 times a week; which they have popcorn and soda out.
• The staff is helpful and friendly.
• The resort is a 5 minute walk from shopping and is in a gated complex. There are security guards onsite.

Now the bad:
• The resort is in desperate need of the scheduled renovation. The paint is chipping, much of the furniture including the beds are stained and dirty. Everything is worn, for example the comforter and shower curtains had holes in them. The twin sized bed in my room was broken.
• The water is not potable. The resort had big orange coolers out in designated areas for water. Many people bought water bottles and filled out up the water to take to their room.
• -The resort turns off the air conditioning everyday from 7-11 am. By 10:00 is really warm in the rooms.
• There are signs on the back of the toilets asking that you do not flush your the toilet paper instead the request that you throw it in the trashcan. The toilets were constantly backing up.
• The mattresses are as hard as a rock.
• There are not many adult activities at the resort and the activities they do have are done day after the day i.e. trivia at the pool each day at 5:00.
• The food is the same day after day, even though the resort, has theme says i.e. American, French, etc. Only two dishes change on the menu. After a week of this I gave up on the buffet. People were leaving the resort to go out and eat. This is not good at an all-inclusive resort; I would rate the food a c- to a d+, at best.
• The resort boasts 3 restaurants but there are only two restaurants open at a time. The food in the a la carte restaurants is the same food that is at the buffets. Major let down.
• Vendors are in the common area by where you get your towels, trying to sell you tour packages. After you get past this barrage of vendors that walk up and down the beach all day selling all kinds of goods from food to back rubs. The resort even hosts a vendor night so that you are not only harassed by the day but by night also.
• The resort is close to the airport, but unfortunate is also in the flight path and right beside a helipad and this can be very loud at times.

“Excellent Vaca”

Paradise Beach Club & Casino

Apr 15, 2008

I had a great time!

My advice to those who want to go to a 5 star, don't stay here and, if you do, don't compare Paradise Beach Club & Casino to a 5 Star!

The beach was big, (bigger than the one at the Melia Carib at Punta Cana). All the staff there were helpful and happy to make me happy! The resort was kept clean as well as my room.

I'm a fussy eater but every meal I found several things to my liking. I especially enjoyed the fish, which I had every day at least once.

Be careful with the fruit, - althought the pineapple was absolutely delicious, 3 pieces of pineapple had me running to the bathroom for an afternoon so I cut it back to 1 piece.

The resort is a little old but it has character. I hope that the renovations don't ruin that. I stayed in an attic and it was fine, a great breeze blew in almost all the time because it was high up. I could also see the ocean from my window.

Yes, I am returning after it is renovated.

“Good enough - you get what you pay for”

Paradise Beach Club & Casino

Apr 13, 2008

The hotel is all inclusive, so for the money you pay (about $45 a day) you get a great deal. The buffet food is average, but there is a wide selection. For a nice meal you should go outside of the hotel (but stay in the holiday 'village') we ate in a lovely place called 'Al Fresco' near the shopping mall, with a nice terrace. These restuarants are relatively expensive though.

The beach is beautiful. I'd recommend doing a couple of trips - we went on a catamaran trip (run by a company called 'Freestyle') that was great. We also did a Jeep Safari, that was exhausting, but worth it. Local children chase the jeeps for sweets - so buy som e to give them or you'll feel very mean. If you go to the waterfalls, be ready to trek 30 mins each way through the jungle, and take shoes that you can wear in the water (not flip-flops) as you're climbing up waterfalls. It's an amazing adventure and definately worth doing, but we weren't prepared for how physical it was.

We had a great room - a suite, but many of the other rooms we saw that were on the top floor were attic-like and tiny. It's worth specifying if you need more space. There is 'entertainment' on in the pool area every night that is quite loud, so if you have young kids that you'd want to be asleep before 10pm you should ask for a room away from the pool. The pool area also has loud muic during the day.

The locals were very friendly and all in all we had a great time. Although this is an all inclusive hotel remember that it's only 3 stars so is not luxurious. However you can still have a great time there.

“What can I say its Dominican!”

Paradise Beach Club & Casino

Meh its Dominican! The resort really needs a make over, and It is being renovated May 1st though November. I got to see what the new renos will look like and I think it will be nice.

The food was Meh! So So.

The beach Meh! Cuba is much nicer.

Th entertainment crew Bla! They did not associate enough with the public, but they did entertain the french crowd! I am not french so I didn't understand a thing.

The room, Small, smelly, they shut off the plumbing from 8-11 god knows why. I knew what I was getting into at this resort.

I swam with the dolphins, best part of the trip Definately reccomend it!

I really don't like the Dominican to begin with so I wasn't expecting much, will I go back Probably not.

“Unlikely to recommend or return”

Paradise Beach Club & Casino

Apr 1, 2008
2/2 found this review helpful

Where do I begin? I can't say I had a horrible experience but when I think of a vacation I will not be returning here. The hotel is old, it needs renovations. You don't go away for the bedroom you are staying in, but you also shouldn't really dislike your room. There are no elevators, which is no big deal unless you are elderly, or have a baby with you and have to lug a baby in a carriage up 3 flights of stairs everyday. And who builds a hotel with a bathroom on the second floor? Who wants to try to go up a narrow spiral staircase after they've had a few drinks or in the middle of the night when you are sleepy. I shared a room with my mother who wasn't too excited about going up a flight of stairs everytime she had to go considering she has to take medication that made her go often. We asked to change rooms but they said they didnt have any available. However there were other rooms with ground floor bathrooms.
And the bathroom had tiles that looked like they were glued in place. My bathroom sink was broken and if you leaned over it to put on contacts it sounded like it was going to fall off the wall.
If you get over all that, the rooms are clean. However, the mattress I slept on felt like sleeping on bricks. I think the most annoying aspect of the room was the fact that they didn't come with hairdryers or irons. You could borrow these from the front desk but had to return them at the end of the day, not the end of the trip. There was also no tv remote controls, these could also be borrowed. These things aren't a big deal but I wasn't expecting it and when you go away they are usually standard.
The safe was available for a fee, but from the other reviews it seems people had things stolen. However the best and last thing I will say about the room was the fact that they turned off the electricity at 7 in the morning, and it doesnt come back until 11am. It's not like you need electricity for light at that time but if you need electricity for anything else, too bad.

The walls are paperthin. You wouln't think that was a big deal until you are asleep and some drunkin fools are walking around trying to find their rooms and wake you up as they go around screaming at one another.
The food at the buffet and restaurants was gross. There were days when some food was made well but overall, the food wasn't great. Anyone who says it was doesn't know what they are talking about. I am not an overly picky person, it's not like I didnt eat for the week I was there, but by the end I couldn't stomach it anymore. I liked the breakfast-you can't go wrong with eggs but the lunches and dinner just looked like food from the day before changed into another dish the next day. Any beef or pork meat they served was good, but it's the toughest meat you will ever eat.
And if you happen to be a germ-a-phobe like me, you'll notice they don't change forks or tongs when they switch from raw to cooked food when they serve it to you, so you better have an immune system made of steel. Two of the people with my group got the runs while there-Do Not drink the cold milk. The hot milk is ok.

The beach was beautiful, and the pool is nice. The casino is a joke. They are a few tables and a few slots, but the majority of the slots had tape on them becasue they weren't working and the tables were not being played because there weren't enough people in there. If you are looking to stay here because it has a casino-you will be disappointed. I traveled with 9 people, none of whom won one dollar in that place. There is another casino within walking distance that was a lot better.

I enjoyed my vacation because of the people I went with and the beach. Otherwise the rooms were just ok, the food wasn't good and the people working there were rather nasty. This is no exaggeration, the guy who gave out the towels was very nasty to my sister everyday she asked for towels, and the bartender would look right past me when I asked for a drink, serve everyone else around me, and then give me half full drinks. I even tried tipping people hoping they would be happier to serve, they would take the money but not treat me any better.

Go someplace better. I'm guessing everything was in as poor condition as it was because several staff members said the hotel will be closed for major renovations in May. Whether that is true or if it will be better later on -best of luck to you.
