Hello all.

1st of all let me make things clear, I booked a cheap break and thats what we expected. We paid £850 for myself and my wife with upgraded flights from Manchester. What we got was exactly what we expected, the hotel, the room but as for the staff they exelled themselves.
If you are booking this hotel and can afford a bit extra, Ie. Iberostar Dominicana then pay the extra and book for the Dominicana, however if pennies are at a premium go ahead and book because this hotel is not only value for money but because the staff are so good it counts for another star!
Flew with My Travel, never again.... book with first choice and if you can, go Premium, My Travel were not in their league.
First immpressions of the hotel were not good. The porter grabbed or bags and took us straight through the main pool area, Benidorm eat your heart out. What the rest of the world think about us is true. English blokes (and Im one of them) are usually the problem, young, daft and drunk, this hotel didnt have the lagerlout but by god they had the track suit brigade. It was 2pm (ish) when we got taken through this pool area and the language was graphic, this was by the kids, mothers and fathers of the group. We hurried through and got to our room which was basic. Although air-con & T.V were avaliable the room lacked a bit of TLC but hey who cares. Unpacked and walked around a bit.........Found the savior of our holiday, THE ADULT BAR. This place was great, if you dont have kids this place is the one for you. You can drink, swim, sunbathe and eat without the tracksuite briggade getting anywhere near you. We immediatley made friends with the people round the bar and the staff themselves.
The hotel is great and the staff better,3 stars for the hotel is a bit exagerated but the staff deserve 4. By all means book your stay here and tip the people who you think deserve it, we did and always do. Was going to put something a bit stronger but I cant, The English families made us ashamed of where we were from.

I just returned from a week stay there, 2 weeks ago and have to say it truly was the best resort I have ever been to.

The food was great,service excellent,pools were clean,drinks were good and the staff was absolutely wonderful!

I read some negative reviews on this site and cannot agree with anything that was said.

The only disappointment I experienced was the amount of clouds and rain which I did not anticipate but that had nothing to do with the resort.

I would definitely recommend this resort to others and hope to be back soon!

Made some wonderful friends and am going back to visit next month and attend a wedding!

My friend christine and I visited fun tropicale 2nd feb to 16th feb and had the best time. Ok, after over 7 hour delay in manchester outbound, we were exhausted on arrival and a little shocked by the room which was desperately in need of some TLC. After a great nights sleep we hit the activity pool, and the holiday started there. We immediately felt relaxed and just lay back and enjoyed the activities ( not participating) We split our time between both pools and the beach, all of which were fantastic.
Without a doubt what made our holiday unforgettable were the great people we met there, both staff and guests. I have been to the dom rep numerous times but never have I been to such a friendly hotel. I am planning on a return in may.
The 24hr bar was just the best, all bar staff were second to none, and the fun we had there was out of this world.
I have stayed in 5* hotels in the dom rep and can say that not one came close to the standard of service we received.
The food was good, we certainly never went hungry, and although the rooms need upgrading they were always clean, after all you only use them to shower and sleep.

Myself and my friend recently stayed in the Fun Tropicale (the first 2 weeks in February 08). On arrival we were put into a room that was not what we had booked with the Agent (Thomas Cook). The reception staff were very helpful and moved us to a different room immediately (temporarily for that night) and were moved again the following day to our final room.

The complex in itself is fine. It is very well kept and exceptionally clean. The room we stayed in was in block 21. It was basic but clean and habitable. The rooms could do with a little upgrading. We did overhear other people complaining about their rooms so it sounded like it was pot luck on what you got.

The food was ok. Yes there is plenty of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the extra restaurants (Brazilian and Italian, Popeyes Pizza) but unfortunately for us it became very repetative towards the end of the two weeks. However, if you go the the Plaza, you will find a Pizza Hut (very cheap), Roadways (good) but the place to eat has to be Hemmingways. We ate here a number of times and the food was exceptional and very reasonably priced.

The entertainment has a lot to be desired in my opinion. There is only so many nights you can watch a group of people miming/dancing to music. The management should change it up a bit and include other type of enterainment - perhaps talent show for guests, karakoe nights, etc.

Yes the VIP services are a bit of a nuisance however if you politely say "not today" and walk on they do not pester you.

In general it was a nice place to stay but could do with some improvements in my opinion.
