Before booking at this hotel we read many reviews and quite honestly the people that write bad reviews for this hotel need to stay home. Sure if you have had a bad experience you will write a crappy review, but let me tell you I have travelled to many places in this world and there are lot more uglier places to stay at than this hotel. We left Toronto March 12 for two weeks, there were seven of us, three adults and four teens and let me me you we all had the time of our lives. The food is great especially the Beach restaurant, the cook even went out of his way to make pasta for me. No one got ill. The bar staff is great (Mr. P) and there is brand name alcohol,,Johhy walker red, Tanqueray Gin, among others. Brugal is by far the best rum I have had. The animation staff is superb, the font desk staff is great and other than a little problem with the room, the cleaning and maintenace staff looked after the problem immedialtely. I am sure that if you read some of the Horror reviews they are completely unfounded. I guess it takes a certain personality to write a bad review. My wife and kids have been to Puerto Plata reveral times before and other than Gran Ventana this is the the best place they have been to and we will definlety be back, My daughter is planning a graduation celbration in July 2008 and want to come back to the Wyndam!

We had a mix up at the resort that I orginally booked, so my travel company moved me to this resort. I was expecting a nice resort given the Wyndham name, but...well, that's not what we got. The resort was in need of cleaning up...pretty much everywhere. The rooms were horrible and very bare. There was mold EVERYWHERE! Our sliding door to our tiny balcony wouldn't lock. I wouldn't have wanted to sit out there anyhow, as we had a lovely view of what appeared to be staff quarters with lots of laundry hanging on balconies and trash everywhere. There was a foul odor as well.
The pool was very small and the hot tub was packed with smokers and younger people drinking heavily. Both the pool and the hot tub needed cleaning.
My husband and I stayed at this hotel a total of about 1 hour and then went to the front desk and complained. Without hesitation, they transferred us (via our own cost for the cab) to another Wyndham resort, the Tangerine in Caberet. I did appreciate that it was an easy transfer! The Tangerine was ok...not the best, but after the Playa Dorada...ANYTHING would have been better!

We have just returned from a fabulous vacation in Puerto Plata at the Viva Wyndham Playa Dorada!
What made our stay there so wonderful was the staff who are so much fun and just willing to help you in any way to have a great time.
I would have to say that the Photography Staff are the most excellent I have seen at any resort my wife and I stayed at.. The person we dealt with was Belkis Garcia. That lady is a magician with a camera and a personality that makes you feel so comfortable. We have had pictures taken before but never had such a enjoyable and fun session that we had with her. She made my wife and I look like we were models.
She totally knows how to make your pictures look fabulous!!! Anyone going there tell her Rod & Norma from winnipeg, Canada said for her to do the photo session as I am sure we stood out in her mind as well as she does in ours as she was laughing and having as much fun as we were. They are very fortunate to have such a professional photographer like her on thier staff....THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH BELKIS!!!
The maids were awesome in servicing our room, which was beautifully setup. The animation team were lots of fun and really knew how to get everyone involved in the resort in the games and they were constantly laughing and getting to know the people around them. The restaurant staff was on top of everything you could want or need.
The resort was kept impecably clean and the gardening there was fanastic. I would recommend if you like to snorkel or scuba dive, or want to learn, go see Ivan at the dive booth as he is knowledgable and just a wonderfully fun person to deal with.
The only lacking thing we found was the food but that could well be that my wife and I are not huge on seafood and there was a bit too much of it for us.
We have been in the D.R. 4 times and will be back as the country is so beautiful and the people just so friendly. We will definitely recommend this hotel to everyone!!

The resort was beautiful and very well taken care of. I definitely recommend this resort to anyone who goes. It’s a great family environment. I went with my best friend and we had an awesome time. The rooms were beautiful and very clean. The bathroom was excellent. The beach was nice and warm. The bar service was great! The food was good. There was one main dining hall, where it was a buffet style breakfast, lunch and dinner. Also, for lunch there was a place to eat right at the beach if you didn’t want to go back into the hotel to eat. At night time, if you make reservations, there are two wonderful restaurants. The people were amazing and VERY nice. The entertainment crew was very fun, nice and approachable. The maids were excellent, no complaints with them. Overall, I had a great experience with this resort and definitely recommend it to anyone who goes. Considering it’s a 3 ½ star, it didn’t feel like one, it felt like at least 4. The only advice I can give is: bring some beach wear on your carry-on with you because you may arrive well before your check-in time, this way you can head to the beach while you wait for your check in time. Also, when shopping for souvenirs, make sure you shop around; prices are different in some store. I bought a bottle of alcohol in one store for 380 pesos and in another store, the same bottle, was going for 180 pesos. All I can say is shop around and bargain!
