The hotel itself is impressive in decor and spotless. Beautiful grounds, big pool, gorgeous beach with canopy beds waterside.
Our room was nice, and a bottle of rum, cigars and basket of fresh fruit were there upon arrival.
Maids were very efficient. Small fridge was stocked with Sprite, Coke, beer, and two large water bottles.
Beach towels were included, so you did not to bring any.
On to the restaurants- You need to make reservations, and can make as many as 3 ahead of time.
Tried the Fondue place. Atmosphere was nice an intimate. The food was fair, and it took 2-21/2 hours to finish, due to the long waits for the fondue.
Regular drinks are included. We decided to pay for two bottles of wine. While the meal is all included, we left a 20- (US) tip on a 90-tab for the wine. This was met with a rather displeased look by the manager, as if it wasn't enough. That turned me off to the restaurant for the rest of our stay. a 20% tip is generous, especially when tipping is not necessary in an all-inclusive.
The Italian restaurant was excellent! The carpaccio, bruschetta, and Tartalle pasta were all delicious. Dessert was delightful, and the cappucino was wonderful.
The buffet changes nightly and provides salads, breads, and themed nights for food. A lot of the food was of the greasy type.Pastas can be made to order. The breakfast buffet was quite good with fresh juices, fruits, yogurts, crepes, waffles, ham, bacon, and omelets and eggs made to order.
The Mare Nostrum is open 24/7, and the bar next to it as well. The food is ok and standard: appetizers, salads, burgers, fries, pizza, and you can make a panini.
BEWARE! You DO need BUG SPRAY! The mosquitos at night can be awful!
For great meals, at an additional price, book La Cava and El Pescador at the sister hotel. They are 25- and 32- per person, but well worth it.
THE ONLY PROBLEM is getting a shuttle from one hotel to the next. We waited for 45 minutes! This happened frequently, and was quite annoying, as we kept being told "15 minutes".
The Disco "Arrieta" was a lot of fun. Opens at 11 p.m., and you drink free until midnight.
Tower Casino was okay, ask for coupons before you go, to double your bet, or play 10- free.
The shops downtown are sketchy. The shops in our hotel are OK. The Caribe had nicer shops.
The sting ray and swim with sharks was worth every penny. BUT make sure you eat a good meal and bring snacks. They push the 151 rum, and Mamajawna. You can get drunk real easy. I would also bring your own snorkeling, as they do not clean it well.
It was a nice trip, great with a bunch of friends.
