“Nice Break - Rustic Charm - Excellent Location for Beaches”

Blue Horizons Garden Resort

Mar 12, 2008

Stayed here for a week in March for a couples break. Excellent location a 5 min walk away from Grand Anse Beach, although highly recommend going to Morne Rouge beach 10 min walk up the hill to the left of the hotel - as it seams always empty and the waters were calmer - felt like we we had a lot of space on the beach to ourselves.

Was really surprised at the cost of the of all the restuarants, but the quality of the "catch of the day" was well worth it. Try to avoid buying a Carib beer at the hotel bars - complete rip off... ended up paying £3 for a small beer at Spice Island Resort.... London prices in the Caribbean!!!... If you are on a budget would recommend buying supplies from the supermarket down the road. Having the luxury of a kitchenette (which had everything you need) was a bonus.

The hotel itself was clean, quiet, private and well located. When you compared it to the all-inclusive luxury high-end resorts close by, you appreciate its rustic, honest charm. If you are looking at having breakfast lunch and dinner with the same old faces (when i say "old" I mean more mature - with the utmost respect - I am 34) then this is not the place for you. I would also say great for families.

Definatley hire a car and see the island. We used a company called SANVICS and got a soft top Suzuki - Jimmy 4x4 car (no hard tops left which we wanted). It was pretty knackered and the battery went flat (but they sent a mechanic out pretty quickly though) but worked well. It did cost us $70 US a day all in (incl insurance). Maybe wise to book in advance.

Recommend exploring round the little penisular's about 3 miles drive away - true blue, la sagresse, westerhall point, woburn bay (our fav) - amazing views and interesting to see how the rich Grenadians live. Also drove into Westerhall rum distillery with small musuem and the people there were really friendly and offered tours etc. Grenadians want to sell their wares but they are definitley not pushy - if you say no then they are pretty cool after that.

One thing i must mention which was a little annoying on the last day was that I booked the flight and hotel via British Airways and the return flight was in the evening at approx 7pm. I booked a late check out - so I could use my last day and not waste it by waiting to leave. It was confirmed by BA but in reality this CANNOT BE GUARANTEED. Even though BA offer this this option, the hotel will obviously want to check other guests in and the best they can do is offer you a 30 min courtesy room so you can quickly shower before you leave. The airport is 10 mins drive but you never hear any planes coming in/out. We left the car in the gated car park with the keys under the mat with gate money for the hire company to get the car out.

“Quiet relaxing holiday at Blue Horizons”

Blue Horizons Garden Resort

5 of 5 stars
East Sussex

We stayed at Blue Horizons in the middle of February for two weeks. The cottages are set into well kept sloped gardens and we were lucky enough to stay in room 13 which is at the top. We had wonderful views across the bay to St Georges were we could watch the cruise ships arriving and leaving.

We stayed on a self catering basis which was very easy as there is a well stocked supermarket just a few hundred yards down the road. There are also several eating places close by which are excellent value. (Watch the rum punches they really do pack a punch!!)

We had pre dinner drinks at the Spice Islands on a couple of occassions, a little pricey but worth it. As we arn't really 'beach' people we didn't spend time on the beach so cannot comment on using the facilities offered to guests of Blue Horizons.

As we don't like hiring cars or being shepherded around on organised tours we always try to find a local guide to show us about. We were lucky enough to find ourselves a really good taxi driver named Chris who has superb knowledge about Grenada and makes a brilliant guide. With his advice we were able to choose where we went and how long we stayed. Nothing was too much trouble for him. We have his phone number if you are interested. If you ask at the reception desk I am sure they could contact him for you.

All in all a very enjoyable stay at the Blue Horizons on this no hassle, friendly island of Grenada.

“Great family holiday”

Blue Horizons Garden Resort

Booked flight and accomodation with XL.com as a cheap last minute break before Christmas and had a wonderful time. Fabulous weather, just a couple of minute's stroll from the supermarket, sushi and pizza restaurants and Grand Anse beach. We loved the apartment which was clean, nicely decorated and gave us the freedom to self-cater. NB: our kids are quite little (under five) so we were happy to all share the large bedroom.

Two things worth mentioning: the beach just over the hill is a little bit of a hike with toddlers but well worth it as the sea is much calmer here than Grand Anse. Also, there is no nightlife to speak of round here which was fine for us, but if you're looking for somewhere lively, this probably isn't for you.

If you're after a safe location with beautiful sparkly seas and powdery beaches, Grenada won't disappoint. The Blue Horizons accommodation is of a good standard, the pool is clean, the gardens are stunning and if you can go for around £450 each including flights as we did just before Christmas, you're be onto a winner. A fab family location, especially for those in search of a low-key, relaxing time.

“Tranquil and well kept hotel”

Blue Horizons Garden Resort

Feb 23, 2008

This is a very quiet and tranquil place – and we liked it a lot. We had a bungalow set quite high up on the hill in gardens that are full of greenery from palms and tamarinds and with lots of purples, reds and yellows of bougainvillea and hibiscus. The grounds were very well maintained.

The accommodation was very spacious, well-equipped and clean. There were excellent views over the bay to St George’s – where the various cruise ships could be seen creeping into the harbour most early mornings. However, ground-level rooms may have no view at all - and much more limited privacy than we had.

The bungalows are well-spaced. There were some families with children nearby, but we never heard them. The pool and beach bar seemed basic but fine (we never used them) and weren't at all crowded. It takes a few minutes to reach the lovely Grande Anse beach, passing the police station on the way.

We thought the hotel restaurant, La Belle Creole, was excellent. We had a superb quality meal there at reasonable cost. But be warned – if you are staying in this area on a room only basis there aren't that many good restaurants within walking distance, and if you don't book in the mornings than you won't get a table (at least, that was our experience). Savvy’s, just up the road, is fine – and you can eat a la carte or just get a very nice pizza. Owing to booking problems, we twice ate just down the road at the spectacularly inappropriately named Le Chateau (think, ‘Le Shed’) but the food was fine there.

If, like us, you want to make your own breakfast, there's a big supermarket just a few minutes walk away.

The hotel staff seemed friendly and helpful, and were very unobtrusive. This hotel is the sister of the very plush and therefore much more expensive Spice Island Hotel on the beach front. To get there you walk past the police station, and then you can use the other hotel's facilities - up to a point (eg you can’t have mattresses on the beach beds or use their pool). The Spice Island has a very nice restaurant - but be prepared to spend way over £100 for two with some wine & other drinks.

Remember, prices in Grenada restaurants are rarely what you see on the menu - there's always small print about the 10% service charge, and then 8% VAT on the total - and, of course, the tip is expected as well.

So in summary, if you want to step out of your room and onto the beach, the Blue Horizon isn't for you. Neither is it for anyone expecting any night life on the premises. There isn't any. There's total silence.

It's a quiet retreat that offers a quality setting, tranquillity and privacy that you don’t get in most of Spice Island. We really enjoyed our stay there, and even quite enjoyed the stroll down to the beach.

“Very 'Blue' Horizons”

Blue Horizons Garden Resort

Feb 12, 2008

Hi, Stayed at Blue Horizons for one week in Feb...It's a self catering complex set in some attractive gardens. To say this place has no personality would be an understatement. The pool bar area is most unatractive and really quite lifeless. They just don't cater for onsite entertainment and you have no chance of getting a drink here after six unless you use their Restuarant 'The Belle Creole'. Beware some of the rooms leave a lot to be desired for, we were not given the room we booked also they said they did not have a lock for the room safe.... after i made it clear i was not going to stay in the allocated room (prison cell) i was given something more like i originally asked for.....Oh! and i got my safe key....What's going on there? that said i can see the attraction for some people. The beach is quite easily reached by a ten minute walk through 'The Spice Island Resort' It stretches about two miles but keep away from the right side when the cruise liners are in. The Grenadian Mafia are out these days ripping off all and sundry. ( They must think most people cannot tell the difference between US$ & EC$)
The Restaurants we went to are:
The Belle Creole......O.K. but there's better.
The Aquarium... Sunday Lunch....Very nice place... but beware of eating Lobster...I suspect it's frozen. also nice place to go for the evening.
True Blue...On the weekend...hint of mexican & creole..good place also for drinks in 'The Dodgy Dock.'....and if you are up for it later... 'Banana's'....ten minute walk up the road.
The Beach House....Top Place to eat...Great people watching
La Luna....Excellent Restaurant.....in a very romantic setting.
We also ate in what we think will be one of the islands best eating places soon.....Savvy's....It's attracting the so called well to do (Lewis Hamilton) the night we went...and they have plans to extend this Mount Cinnamon Resort....They try really hard here.
The Flamboyant Hotel has a good night time bar callled 'The Owl'.....for obvious reasons......It's 24/7......Great!!!!!
Coconut Beach.....If you must.....did not do any thing for us.....surely service...food and presentation/service left a lot to be desired.
We also went to Sapphire ......not bad....great service...and worth a try....if your vacation is longer than a week.
We tried a few local bars too....and was made very welcome.
All in all....we think this is a great Island to visit albeit we did not venture to far north being we were only on a weeks visit and we do like to catch some sun especially when the weather here is cold.
I highly recommend this Island.....but not so sure of 'Blue Horizons'....We have been coming to the Caribbean for over ten years now and it's the first time i've come across an establishment that only invites repeat guests to it's Managers Cocktail Party.......Say's it all really.
