“Great hotel”

Grenadian by Rex Resorts

Just returned from 2 weeks sheer relaxation at the Rex. Ken and his team are always there to help and as a GM he is always very visible and keen to get things right. Adil the chef is at every dinner telling you what each dish is and I thank him for my weight gain! (the thai curried chick peas were to die for). I would like to know where Carly was eating as it obviously was not the same place as we were..... ALL the food was superb. I have eaten at many 5 * hotels and up market restaurants and this was very much on a par.
The lake is lovely to walk around (fed the fish most mornings). The birds actually use the bread as bait to catch their breakfast (very amusing). The beaches are lovely - even the beach sellers are friendly if you are at least polite to them. Janice does your nails for about £10. The pina coladas were great and there was some entertainment most nights. I like the fact that nearly everywhere is non smoking but I agree with the other reviewer about the Virgin reps smoking at the pool - not setting a very good example. The flight was excellent (Virgin) and all in all I would return (and dont usually go back to the same place). Excellent VFM. I note it has dropped a few places in the ratings but check out the prices of the hotels above it! You get everything you need and in a fabulous location.
On our arrival the Virgin reps got there before us and were treated to drinks etc. We were herded through reception quickly with not so much as a 'welcome to Grenada/how was your flight' etc. Just a little moan but as this is your first impression of the hotel (and one that stays with you) it could have been a little warmer with the focus on the paying guests and not just the 'usuals'.
The free Saturday market trip with Carl was good. Having been to Grenada before we did not do any other trips but lounged daily on the beach and snorkeled on the reefs watching the fish who would come and eat bread out of your hand!
Almost didn't want to rave about this place as I dont want too many people to go there...! it was lovely and quiet when we were there and the staff were very attentive. Well done Ken (I know he reads this!) keep up the good work....

The staff were all very friendly but you have to make the effort to be friendly to them as well. How much trouble does it cost to smile and say "Good Morning". Lovely, lovely people- nothing was ever too much trouble. Thank you.

“A fantastic, relaxing holiday”

Grenadian by Rex Resorts

5 of 5 stars

After checking the trip advisor reviews, we booked a week at the Rex through lastminute.com. We were unsure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised. We ended up having such a great time, we truly didn't want to leave. We were looking for a nice quiet base for our holiday, with a great beach to relax, and but also with the opportunity to take a few trips since Grenada is a long way to go to sit around and do nothing!

The first thing to consider when you read this review is that we went in the middle of June. We got to the hotel and it was so quiet! We kept thinking that any minute, a huge tour bus was going to arrive and spoil the peace. It didn't. On all of the days, there were less than 10 people with us on the beach, no waiting for drinks, and the pool was often completely empty (although everyone was probably in the sea!). In the lounge in the evening, numbers rarely exceeded 20. We were told that this was because June is off-season, and that the rainy season was approaching. The weather was fine for us with a couple of short downpoars in the evening but this is likely to get worse - check the weather forecast if you are about to book a last minute deal!

The food was really excellent. I am normally really fussy but could easily find something I loved every day. There is NO JUNK FOOD! This is great in my opinion but others may be disappointed. There was always rice, vegetables, a potato dish, fish, chicken, red meat and something else in a different variation each evening. And ice-cream. :-)

We went all inclusive which is definitely worth it - the drinks menu is long with loads of delicious alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails, as well as coke, lemonade etc, all included.

Beaches: there are 2 beaches. One for the watersports but don't be fooled as at this time of year there was not the constant drone of motorised watersports. There was only one quiet boat that took people scuba diving. The other beach is lovely too, but it is difficult to get into the sea as there are rocks. The watersports beach is best for swimming but they are both so close it is not an issue. The only other thing worth mentioning is that the sea get deep pretty quickly. If your children like sea swimming this may not be ideal.

Finally, remember that this is a 3 star hotel. Nothing was run-down or shabby but this is no 5 star. The rooms were fine - comfy bed, fridge, air con, decent shower, but nothing special. Likewise with the general facilities too. Nice lounge and restaurant, OK entertainment in the evening (which was only ever a singer or band - no-one screaming "clap your hands" down the mic!), good food, but you are not waited on hand and foot. You have to go to get your drinks at the bar yourself - you are not waited on.

Overall we had a really great holiday - if you want a holiday that is away from it all in a country where there is lots to do (the best thing we did was watch leatherback turtles lay their eggs and the hatchlings go into the sea!), with friendly locals, then Grenada is for you!

“Caribbean delight”

Grenadian by Rex Resorts

We have not long returned from the Grenadian by Rex resorts and felt duty bound to report on the fantastic service and situation that we found there starting with the managers warm welcome, the staffs friendly and efficient service through to the cleanliness of the rooms and facilities.
The hotel has a glorious outlook onto a wide secluded bay and with the pool and a bar area set overlooking the beach you are never far away from a snack or refreshing rum punch. The sea is great for snorkelling, with water sports for those inclined to use them but for us it was the opportunity of relaxing under the palms.
The restaurant provided a wide range of choice and we particularly enjoyed the barbecue, entertainment from steel bands and singers was available most nights but not intrusive if you just wanted to chill out for the evening by the bar.
All in all a great holiday and value for money, we will return.

“fantastic hotel, great location”

Grenadian by Rex Resorts

We've just returned from 2 fabulous weeks at the Rex and cant wait to return.
The hotel is superbly ran by Ken Flockhart who greats you on arrival to the hotel with cocktails and hosts a managers cocktail party every week. All the staff we met were extremly friendly, helpful and always smiling (especially Leslie the waiter).

We booked with virgin All inclusive + had a sea view room. The view from our room was just gorgeous. The bedroom was spacious even with another single bed for my daughter we still had plenty of room. Each room was equiped with iron, TV, fridge, hairdryer (not the greatest) and air con. Due to a small bathroom flood (one of those things!) we were upgraded to a beachfront room and this was equally as breathtaking. Opening your patio door each morning to those views was a view i could never tire of, it has to be the main asset of the hotel.

The food was to a high standard and always found that there was plenty of choice. Soup, salads, vegetarian dish, normally 2-3 meat dishes and a fish dish and several deserts and fruits. The head chef walked around the restaurant chatting and informing guests what was available to try and what ingredients were in each dish, he even offered to make alternatives if required. We never took him up on this offer as we enjoyed the food already cooked so much. There was also a great barbacue weekly. Breakfast was also good and i had pancakes, french toast and omlettes made for me every morning.

My daughter joined the kids club and enjoyed it soo much we hardly saw her all holiday. She went on nature walks, played games and made tie dye t-shirts. Lysannie (who ran kids club) was great with the kids and i cant thank her enough for making her holiday!! She also made some great friends (hi rachel, from lauren x)

The 'quite beach' and the 'sports beach' at the hotel are picture postcard material. The quite beach has plenty of sun lounges (new ones) and is ideal for chilling in the shade of a palm tree with a good book. ohh how i wish i was back there....
The sports beach is where we spent more time, we spent a lot of time snorkling here spotting all the many types of fish. The 'Devotion to Ocean' dive centre is excellent. The staff are second to none and very experienced. We hired a hobbey cat and kayaks. My husband gained his PADI open water certification here and my daughter tried scuba in the hotel pool.

We went on the 'hike to seven sisters falls' which i found to be the best trip. I felt like i was really exploring the real Grenada. We did the free saturday market trip which included a free tour of the fort and general guide to the area by "Carl" from sunsations. We also did the 'dont go bananas' but felt as if we spent alot of time on the bus rather than being out and about.

Everyting about this hotel and Grenada itself was wonderful and i cant say enough about this gem of a hotel. Unlike some hotels the hotel had character and charm and you really did feel like you were in the carribeam with the wicker furniture and steel bands. Unfortunately i cant really comment on the evening entertainment as we rarey stayed awake after 9pm.

If i had to think of a negative it would be that the pool really could do with being re-tilled.
I also had a problem with a beach trader who was doing a great back massage and then stared offering a 'private' massage. It did make me feel very uncomfortable. Beware of the guy (william) with the kayak!!!! (no association with the D2O Team or hotel) Overall though the beach traders were really friendly and once you had bought one necklace from them they didnt push for further sales.

I wouldnt hesitate recommending this hotel and i am already looking at prices for next year.
