“Perfect for Business Lodging”

Kingston Hilton Hotel

3 of 5 stars
North Olmsted, Ohio
May 16, 2008

GENERAL AREAS:

This hotel has really nice public areas. 24 Hour coffee shoppe, serving desserts and cold sandwiches. A sundry store selling everything (t-shirts, soft drinks, rum, light snacks, personal care items). There is pool bar which serves light/bar food (wings, salads, hamburgers); and is always alive with activity. The pool area is very large and comfortable. Every evening, the hotel has themed buffet nights (Jamaica night/Caribbean BBQ/Mexican/Seafood); which are very pleasant. They light up the pool area, and surrounding trees - many nights there is live music. There are two other dining options I did not experience, and cannot comment.

For the gamblers, there is a small casino; mostly slots, a few video poker machines, video blackjack, roulette, and horse-racing. Free drinks if you are playing.

There is a workout facility that is not owned by the hotel - but is on property. I believe it is $10usd/day.

HOTEL ROOM:
Pro's - fluffy towels, all bathroom amenities provided (hairdryer, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, body wash, loofah, sewing kit). Iron + ironing board, plenty of hangers. Single chair, ottoman, desk, television (no flat screen) with plenty of choices (majority of programming coming from the USA), king bed, sheets were superior.

Con's: Bed is regular mattress, no pillowtop. Furniture (bedside tables, desk, coffee table) are dated. Bathroom shower height is low (was ok for me as I am short; if you are tall probably won't be able to stand straight up in shower). Noise could be a problem for some - you can hear music, cars beeping, etc (think NYC).

OVERALL:

This property is really perfect for the business traveler. Business Center has 4 PC's; in addition, there is a Cyper Cafe in the public areas (need password to use).

Would I stay here again? YES. Why? Good location (walking distance to & from business sessions); public areas are wonderful. And, the entire staff is very pleasant.

“What a Dump!”

Kingston Hilton Hotel

Apr 29, 2008
1/1 found this review helpful

What a dump! This really gives Hilton a bad name. The carpet was filthy, with wads of gum in it. There were ants all over the room and bathroom. The bath tub was rusted out and it looked as if a poor attempt was made to resurface the tub...like 10 years ago; currently the tub has patches of dfferent colors from obvious attempts to resurface the tub rather than to replace it.

The mattress had "Wyndham" written in majic marker all over it, and was obviously at least 10-15 years old..nice and lumpy and saggy. The walls were paper thin...all in all it was the worst hotel in which I have ever stayed!

“Good Business Hotel”

Kingston Hilton Hotel

Mar 24, 2008

Spent a week on business at the Hilton. It is a fully functional business hotel. I spent the weekend there as well and loved the number of activities they hosted. Try and get a room with a balcony as it affords a good view of this part of the island. It is an older Hilton property but they have managed to maintain much of its integrity. Diamond services are good with great hors d'oeuvres and papers in the morning. After three days, you have to get creative with the food though.

Safe location in New Kingston though I spent most of the time at the hotel. There's a 24hr cafe downstairs which does a pretty decent job.
Be warned that when a storm hits, traffic is unbelievably devastating.

“An Excellent Choice For A Hotel In Kingston!”

Kingston Hilton Hotel

4 of 5 stars
Boston, MA
Mar 18, 2008

When my family (5 members) was traveling to Kingston, we wanted to make sure that we stayed in a safe and fun environment. All of the hotel booking web sites told us to stay away from the Hilton in Kingston but, I am happy to report that I found them all to be very wrong! The staff and facilities of the Hilton Kingston Jamaica are not just "acceptable"; they are downright wonderful!

For those accustomed to visiting international Hilton hotels, you might be disappointed, at first, with the somewhat dated look and feel of this property. However, I found this to be one of the most endearing features. I really got the sense that I was experiencing a hotel stay back in the colonial days and I liked that.

Surprisingly, the most wonderful characteristic of the hotel is the consistently professional, courteous and helpful attitude of the staff. I must admit that I wish they were more friendly on initial contact. However, I believe that Jamaicans are just naturally reserved on first contact so I won't hold that against them. Nevertheless, I found that if the customer engages with a friendly attitude, he/or she will be greeted with double the friendliness.

It should also be noted that every Kingstonian I spoke with told me that they recommend this hotel over others in vicinity. If the locals like it, then it's the right one for me!

In summary, give this hotel a try but turn off your uber-class internal radar before entering and enjoy this fine property for what it is....a friendly, efficient and stylish homebase for the visitor to Kingston.

“Gives ther Hilton brand a bad name - time to sort it out”

Kingston Hilton Hotel

Feb 3, 2008

Stayed here in the executive suit for 9 days after reading their online brouchure.
It stated they had an Olympic sized swimming pool, it hasn't the pool is 25x10meters, come and use our gym it said, the gym is not even owned by the hotel and you have to pay extra for using this cramped sweat box.
I've also had to leave out a very disturbing event that happened while i was there.

Don't get me wrong Im not a very fussy person but this hotel is about 20 year out of date not the typical Hilton.
The staff were friendly the rooms were clean but all the little professional touches were missing. The pool bar has a great atmoshpere and is cheap. Theme nights are also good fun.

One of the two the lifts were broken taking a long time to get to were you wanted to be and having to stop on all floors in peak times.
Soup spoons for eating your cereal
Bathroom not replenished whit soap, shampoo and other items.

If your like me and not to fussy this venue would suffice but dont expect to get what you have paid for. Travelodge do it better.
Regards
The Prof
