This is a long overdue review. I've been browsing this site, looking for another all-inclusive place to go next year on family vacation, and what I'm discovering is that NOTHING seems to compare to Round Hill. We were there in December with our 3- and 5-year-olds. I have traveled pretty extensively in my lifetime, so I have a good sense of what constitutes a quality resort.

ACCOMODATIONS: Just beautiful, elegant Caribbean (dark wood and white). We stayed in a one-room in The Pineapple House. They told us to book one room and an adjoining one for the kids, but they wouldn't sleep alone so they allowed us to cancel the other room.

KIDS ACTIVITIES: We left our kids at the Pineapple Club for parts of the day. The nannies there were incredibly sweet and caring. The club is small--really, just two rooms--and the toys are old-ish and worn. But, that's me seeing it through my adult eyes. The kids didn't care, they had a lot of fun! And they did activities with them, drawing pictures, making pictures, etc. We had a dedicated nanny, Francine, because my son has some disabilities, and she was just so wonderful. One day, she paddled my son around on a paddleboat for a half hour because he didn't want to get off! Speaking of staff...

THE STAFF: Unparalleled; we have never had such courteous, genuinely nice, NO attitude service. Everyone was cheerful and incredibly accomodating at all times.

THE FOOD: Like a reviewer below, we probably gained 5 pounds on this vacation! We've never before experienced this level of quality in resort food. We got the all-inclusive plan, and wow, did we eat. My husband basically ordered a crab leg with every meal! I loved the salmon, the steak, the salads. Everything.

In sum, Round Hill is an outstanding resort. We like to see new places every year so we're not going back but I may regret that decision because after Round Hill, everything else will pale slightly in comparison.

“Peaceful Round Hill”

Round Hill Hotel & Villas

Round Hill is a beautiful, quiet resort. We visited twice, in 2005 & 2006.

The villa:

We stayed in villa #2. There were three couples and 2 small children. The view was stunning. The staff at the villa were very kind & accomodating. The rooms & ground were very clean, neat & beautifully decorated. Everthing about the villa simply brings on a feeling of relaxation. No pool at this villa, but we did not mind this at all.

(It may sound obvious, but be sure to lock up your valuables in the safe provided, especially in the villas. We had a really nice ipod stolen from our room. I don't mean to imply that Round Hill is swarming with theives. This could have happened anywhere. We just let our guard down, and forgot that you should ALWAYS lock up your valuables!)

The beach:
Small but perfect, as there were never a shortage of chairs or spaces to sit. The water was calm & clear. There is some decent snorkeling just off the beach where we saw some beautiful coral & fish.

The infinity pool:
Really amazing. We spent hours there. The kids enjoyed it too.

The spa:
There is a small workout room with up to date equipment. Excellent yoga classes. I had 2 massages, both of which were very good. There is a large selection of body, hair & nail treatments.

The restaurant:
Overall it was very good. We had a few mishaps in 2006. It seemed very poorly managed. But 2005 was perfect, and I haven't read a lot of negative experiences since our visit. in 2006. The food was top-notch, and I am a bit of a stickler for freshness & taste. Even the buffets were great.
We loved the "afternoon tea" & went almost everyday for a the delicious Blue Mountain coffee & some snacks.

Recreation services:
We had a disappointing "fishing" trip. We should have researched a little more first, because it seemed it wasn't the right time of year (or day?) to go. Wish the resort had helped us out a little with this... or simply didn't offer a trip whent they knew there wouldn't be any action. It cost quite a bit, and we didn't even get one nibble. It was a beautiful ride though. We saw some flying fish, and enjoyed the scenery so it was not a complete loss!

We also had a boat take us (twice) to some snorkeling sites closer to Montego Bay. We had an amazing time doing this. The ride itself was fast & fun... even the 4 year old loved it. The snorkeling was amazing. Our hosts, brothers Sun & Moon, (real names, I swear), were so much fun to be with. Funny & relaxed but also conscientous.

The service overall was excellent. The whole experience was relaxing & still something we think about today.

I highly recommend Round Hill & can't wait to go again!

“Absolutely Fabulous!!!!”

Round Hill Hotel & Villas

Absolutely Fabulous! Many levels above The Four Seasons and Ritz-Carltons. Very, very kid-friendly; they even allowed kiddie floats in the main pool. It is very clubby and if you like all-inclusive resorts you probably will not like it here. It is also quite expensive and the food is a bit boring after a while, but overall it is our favorite resort so far. The only thing that has come close is Hualalai. It is more kid than singles-friendly and there is little nightlife to speak of. A couple seeking some romance might enjoy it; the children are overall well-behaved. We did not notice any wild ones during our stay. It is very much more like a country-club and the cottages are owned by families who are Round Hill shareholders and that is the way it feels. It seems like some of the guests have been going there forever; the staff gets to know you and everyone is exceptionally pleasant and accommodating. We are returning for Thanksgiving. I can't say enough nice things about it . I was loathe to leave! Also, the spa was exceptional and reasonable given spa rates in the US generally. There is no golf course, but there are golf privileges at Tryall (we had dinner there and RoundHIll is FAR nicer!) and RoseHall. Each villa is owned by a family and so is very different; I suggest one with a pool. The Pineapple rooms were redone about a year and a half ago by Ralph Lauren and are also very, very nice. Sigh... I wish I was there now. Oh, and there kids club and nanny staff are terrific!

Round Hill is a Gem of a resort. The grounds are lush and beautiful, the accomodations (we stayed in a cottage) were beautiful, and the service was excellent. This resort really cares that you're happy. They want to make sure that you're enjoying your stay and they work really hard to that end. I HIGHLY reccomend this resort!

“Roundhill is a dream come true!!! World class with 5 diamonds!”

~ * PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION!!! * ~

My husband and 2 1/2 year old daughter stayed at Round Hill for one week. It was the most amazing place we had ever stayed anywhere in the world. It is truly "Heaven on Earth" at Round Hill. From the time you're picked up from the airport to the day you check-out, you are catered to your every whimb. The entire staff (concierge "Hadly", check-in staff, room service, waiters, waitresses, hosts, maids, bartenders, lifegaurds, sporting tour guides...etc) EVERYONE went above and beyond their call of duty to make our stay enjoyable.

Once you check in Hadly shows you to your room (we stayed in the pineapple house, room 123A). Every room at the pineapple house has an ocean view, every night when the sun goes down you can capture the stunning Jamaican sunset. Hadly shows you to your room, bell boys carry & bring your luggage to your room, aand from the first moment you walk into your room - you will be impressed!

Our room had a KING size bed with beautiful wooden bed frame. Romantic bed curtains that draped on each side (see pictures!), they placed an extra full size bed in our room for our daughter, which was awesome. The bed was extremely comfortable with white egyptian linen sheets & a cozy down comforter. The bathroom was amazing also... everything was contemporary. The shower was unique, made to be a "rain shower" shower head, huge bath tub that could probbly fit 2 1/2 adults, huge mirrors (2 mirrors) and of course a safe to lock valuables & belongings (free of charge).

The "chill" area of your room comes with nice open & shut windows. If you open it up, you get a panoramic view of the ocean and an over-look of the edgeless swimming pool below. There was a coffee table with travel books and magazines for Jamaica, and an ottoman/L-chair (sorry, don't know what it was called) and a cool chair to sit & enjoy the view from your room. Just a little heads-up, there is NO TV in any rooms (well, in the pineapple house). There's a TV lounge next to the dining area with a huge big flat screen TV. I think they did this because they'd like you to be out & about on your trip, insted of staying in the room couped up - it's actually better that way. But if you want to watch a movie in your room at night I recommend bring a portable DVD player or your laptop to watch DVDs. It's a must have if you bring children here!

For children 3 & up, there's the Pineapple Kids club. You can drop your kids off here and the ladies will occupy them while you're out & about having adult fun. They also offer babysitting & nanny services. If you want to go off the resort premisise for dinner or something else, you can pay for a nanny to watch them. I think it was like $15 an hour, & an extra $20 if you're out past midnight (cause she'll need a ride home).

Now let's talk about the FOOD at Round Hill. Mm mm mm, it's out of this world deeeee-licious! I think I gained 5 lbs from staying at Round Hill for a week because they feed you so darn good. Every night during the week is different (during dinner). My favorite was Wednesday night - "dinner on the beach", LITERALLY! The staff set up tables & chairs, dinnerwear & tiki torches. We ate our dinner 2 feet from the water rushing up the sand. It was amazing. That night, it was an all you can eat buffet, shrimp, fish, lobster tails, pork, steak, porkchops, ribs, salads, side dishes to the max, sweets, cakes...etc. Too many to try to remember, ha ha. Other nights you'd sit at the dinner table in the dining area. Everyone would greet you formally by Mr. or Mrs. (Last name). They pulled your chair out for you, placed your napkin in your lap for you, poured your water & drinks for you. You literally get treated like royalty at this resort.

I think my favorite mel of the day at Round Hill was breakfast! You are greeted & seated. Then you can go to the buffet & ask the chef to cook an omlette or eggs how ever you choose. Theyy had fresh fruits, juice, coffees, cereal, pancakes, sausages..etc too many to list again, ha ha. Every meal was spent over looking the ocean - I mean EVERY MEAL, brekfast, lunch & dinner! Almsot like, there's no way of not seeing the ocean, ha ha.

Fun at roundhill... you can snorkel & take a glass-bottom boat ride for free. You can rent the sail boat or rent kyaks to have some fun. The beach is right off of the dining area. You are hand given beach towels. The lifegaurds give sand castle making toys & buckets to kids on the beach. There are 2 floating docs in the bay you can swim to. You can climb up on either one, lay a towel down & sun bathe on them. So fun! The edgeless pool is located beneath the Pineapple house where we stayed. There's a small child pool area (1 feet deep) and the edgeless pool is overlooking the ocean. Lounge chairs lined up perfectly with white towels awaiting you. 2 bars at each end of the beach for you thirst quenching needs (try some Red Stripe Mon!).

Wanna get some alone time in the morning without the kids? During July Round Hill offers a tennis clinic for children. It's free! Just make sure you bring their tennis racquets & some tennis shoes. The snorkeling at Round Hill is great! You jump off of the dock and swim out about 25 yards and discover dozens & dozens of marine life! Also, when you walk to the spa area, check out the cave! It's right off of the pathway, it' so cool. We had to hide out in the cave one day cause it started downpouring rain for 45 minutes - but it was so cool! I've never seen it rain so hard in my life! It was a great experience.

Oh yeah, I don't want to forget! You will fall in love with the Jamaican strawberry jelly! HA HA! I can keep going on & on about Round Hill. Feel free to contact me if you wanna know more!
