“Comfort in Mobay!”

I did not know what to expect at El Greco but the moment I was greeted at the entrance I was glad to be there. The staff was friendly and answered any questions I had. The room was small but the living space was spacious with cabinets, bartop, balcony, and telvision. When a problem persisted with my phone, they were quick to find a resolution and ensure my satisfaction for the remainder of my trip. The best part was definitely the close walking distance to attractions like Margaritaville, Coral Cliff, and Doctor's Cave beach. All the shops along the way were very affordable and I can't wait to come back! Great stay and accomodations, would definitely recommend for family reservation.

“Loved the El Greco Resort”

I have traveled to Jamaica for several years and visited Mobay, Ochie, Negril and Kingston. (some of the hotels I have stayed at are Pegasus in Kingston, the Riu chain in Ochie and Negril, the Royal Decam and the Holiday Inn in Mobay)
I recently returned from Mobay...and I stayed at the El Greco Resort for 11 nights this time around.
Let me tell you that people who write these reviews tend to exaggerate. I have travelled all over the Caribbean Islands and Europe and it infuriates me when I read some of the reviews from other travellers that comment on a 3 star to a 6 star hotel and believe me I have stayed at a lot of these moderate to superior accommodations.
This place is prefect for people who really want to experience the life of an jamaican. The location is prefect being on top of the mobay strip with just a quick ride with the elevator to be smacked into the hustle and bustle but not having to hear all the noise when you are in your apartment. The staff here is so friendly and willing to help you in every way. Complaining about the pots and pans and the remote controls are ridiculous. You ask nicely you will be treated nicely. Now the comment about with the water in front of the entrance was being repaired (due to poor drainage from the constant rain) ...so problem resolved!!!!!
Please understand that when travelling outside your own country things will be different and learn to adapt. Its a shame that you spend money to enjoy yourself and be closed minded on the silliest things. Some places are 3rd world countries and cultures are different from your own and if you are not willing to experience the new culture then STAY HOME!!!!
You can take my word or not but I will say this - my friends, family and co workers always ask about my travel experience to places I have visited and all my recommendations have been well rewarded and everyone has had the best vacation.

“A dump!”

El Greco Resort

Avoid if possible, Main entrance was flooded to the point cab drivers would not go through. I was left at the elevator entrance about 200 yards and 5 stories away with all my bags. Walls were dingy, bare, and in need of some new paint. They made me wear a yellow plastic bracelet for the free breakfast. As for the fully equipped kitchen, pots, pans and other cooking items were availible only after requesting from the front desk. Phone did not work, even after requesting operator to make the call for me i couldnt get through anywhere. At check out the receptionist gave me a bit of a hard time for not bringing back the remote controls for the TV and AC. I give it one star for the location..walking distance to the airport and the plane ride home!

Very close to the airport and shopping. The grounds were well kept and we felt very safe. At first sight of the one bedroom suite we were taken aback by the decor and the upkeep of it -so at first we were unsure if we had chosen the best hotel for the money (we took into consideration we knew we were not paying for the luxury of an all inclusive). We spent 10 days in JA and traveled all over the island (Ocho Rios, Kingston & Negril) and I must say this hotel turned out to be a good choice in comparison to others we were checking into online & then got to see in person. We were there when Hurricane Dean passed through and the staff/management were excellent in keeping the guests updated on the status of the storm and emergency procedures. Actually, we were lucky to be at this location b/c it is situated on a cliff and away from the dangers of being right on the coast line (so we had guests from other hotels trying to retreat to El Greco for safety). The complimentary breakfast was great and the view from the restaurant/bar was just beautiful, a great site to enjoy every morning.
We would definately stay here again. If you plan on staying at El Greco keep in mind that you are not going to be at a luxury resort and you are getting what you pay for. One other thing that is not the hotel's fault but needs to be mentioned...the "hip strip" is not that hip at all so plan on making your own entertainment if you are staying more than a few days.

“It got better...”

El Greco Resort

When we arrived at the hotel we were unable to drive in due to massive flooding in front of the hotel. We had to carry our bags up from a connecting hotel to reach the front desk. The front desk was very acconodating to our booking error. The first room they gave us had no air conditioning and we were moved to a better room but it had a smaller bed. The kitchen had no pots and pans to cook with or warm food so we dined out as opposed to calling for assistance. It took several calls to get functioning remote control for the TV.

With all that aside, the stay was ok but i don't think we'll stay anytime soon. The best features were the round the clock security and free beach passes. Although the food was good too, on our last morning there was a huge bug in it.

I will try el greco again, but not in the near future.

I found the Gloustershire to be much better.
