“Stay far away!!!”

First I do not know how this Hotel received 1 good review. I honestly cannot think of a better word other then a complete DUMP. I stayed one night simply because I had very early flight the next morning and it was close to airport.

The rooms are in very poor condition. Cracks in walls and windows do not seal. Doors barely stay shut and even hinges on closets were broken.

Since windows do not fully seal shut we were attacked by mosquitoes all night long.

This is a very old hotel and one that is being let run down in the ground.

Stairs going to hottub were slanted and about to fall apart. Pool was dirty. I can go on and on.

What is scary is the door locks to room can be pushed open with no problem and most areas are secluded so no one would even see someone breaking into your room.

When we arrived a man (employee) took us to room. Did not help with bags then he would not leave until given a tip. After he left we right away left the room to go to store to buy some drinks. He saw us leave.
We entered a back way to our room. Within 5 minutes someone was knocking on our door. I did not open door right away because I was in process of changing clothes. I then heard the door lock being opened when I finally opened the door.

The man looked surprised to see us there. He then said he was looking for another guest named JULIAN yet he just took us to the room a few minutes ago.

His actions a demenor showed me he was up to no good. We did not feel comfortable at all even staying in the room and ended up walking around the streets until we were ready to sleep only then to be the feast for mosquitos.

Also did I mention the water in room did not work at all? In total we paid $117 for that night. Now here is the kicker. You also had to pay for wireless internet.

Honestly I do not know how anyone gave this place a good review. I do not care if you like to be pampered or are use to living on te streets. This place is a dump. It is a theft waiting to happen. Beds and sheets were also nasty. We slept fully clothed because of being afraid.

“Not Brilliant”

Gloustershire Hotel

Apr 17, 2008

Stayed for just one night before moving on. Rooms are large but in poor condition. Mine was at the front of the hotel and had I been staying longer, would have complained, it was so noisy until about 3 am.

The locks wouldnt have held against a puff of wind and the curtains were falling to pieces.

The sockets were falling off the wall and I had to move the chest of drawers to plug in my hairdryer.

There are no lifts so be prepared to lug your cases up flights of stairs.

The bartender was friendly as were the check in staff, the breakfast staff were rude.

I wouldnt return.

“Cool spot w/ access to everything close by - ESCAPE THE RESORTS!”

Gloustershire Hotel

My fiancé and I wanted a weekend get a way in Jamaica and wanted to experience the island, not be secluded in an all inclusive resort, we live in Miami, we have plenty of resorts right here!

We loved the hotel and we loved Jamaica. If you are looking to experience the culture, this is a cool spot. We had a smooth check-in, a complimentary drink ticket for each of us, and a bellman to carry our bags to the room (definitely needed!). We reserved an ocean view room and rather than one of the rooms in the front that everyone complains about the noise, we got a room in the back on the top floor (our bellman jokingly called it the penthouse as we hiked higher and higher) with amazing unobstructed views of the ocean. We checked the air conditioner and water since there had been some complaints we read about, but ours worked well (the air was so cold we didn't even run it on high, and usually opened the windows to let in the ocean breeze).

A few key points before I share our vacation story:

1. One night we got back to the hotel after the restaurant had closed, and the chef very graciously made us two plates of fried chicken, fries, and slaw... That is service!

2. Aside from check-in the front desk staff is rude and un-helpful.

3. Our maid did a great job with a super clean room each night. One night she left us a little candle and a lighter (guess it was obvious when we passed her in the hall that we're in love!!) I saw a German family thanking her for something she helped with and hugging her in the hall.

After our check-in and inspection of the room we were off. We experience the night life of MoBay and met a chill dread rasta that took us to local spots away from the spring breakers (we're both 30 not our crowd any more).

Our rasta friend met us at the hotel the next morning and went with us to rent a car and take a day trip to Dunns River Falls, the hibiscus gardens, and Rose Hall. He showed us another little local spot, a fishermen’s beach near dunns river falls with a natural spring with delicious water, and three or four bars and cafes filled with dreads. It was a cool experience to wash our faces and hands in the pristine waters and chill with dreads over some baba roots!

The next day we left the dread and went on our own to Negril and explored the 7 mile beach and Ricks Cafe. One more night on the town in MoBay and we left for the airport with a love for Jamaica!

“Warm reception at the Gloustershire”

Gloustershire Hotel

4 of 5 stars
lancaster, pa
Apr 12, 2008

In the heart of the hipstrip walking distance to shopping, clubs and the beach it suited all my needs. I have stayed in Montego Bay many times from deluxe all enclusive resorts to quaint hotels, and as a Jamarican(visitor to jamaica over 6 times) the Gloustershire was a perfect fit for my 3 night 4 day trip. Staff was friendly and accomodating, food was good, rooms were clean. Would definitely stay there again.

Do not stay here! Staff was rude and shady, no hot water, across the street from a loud night club so don't plan on getting any sleep! The pillows and comforter were nasty, and the steps to the jacuzzi were slanted and falling apart! Very scary experience and happy to get out of there!
