“just went to the falls...”

falls themselves are beautiful, but we had to go up in a group...
the bad stuff was that the group had to hold hands going up..we're talking one goes down and takes another with them or too much pushing and pulling...and there were also very annoying way over the top videographers yelling and screaming at us the whole time. dont fall for the craft market tricks, unless you want to, guys will try to hand you a big piece of carbon to "feel the weight" and if you take it they want to immediately begin carving your name on it, then you're sorta obligated.
linger if you can in some smaller pools when you can...you will get totally soaked, please bring closed toe water shoes so you dont have to pay $5 US to rent some nasty cheap ones and above all have fun and be careful. i wish i had photos to post, but you've probably seen the steps of the falls. you can bring your camera, your guide will hold it in a plastic bag and snap pics for you.

“Broke my shoulder”

I recently broke my shoulder at the Falls, near the top in a flat section. The moss was very slippery. I climbed the falls 10 and 15 years ago but they seem much more slipperythis time. I am 41 and took my brother and 10 year old nephew. They fell a few times. The staff was helpful in getting me up and out of the water. They provide a free nurse from their medical facility and do not charge for the ambulance which makes me think a lot of people get hurt there. You do pay for the outdated equipment and services in town. Their xray did not show the obvious break but they did cast me because they knew there was some damage. The Falls staff said the ships require you to be cleared on the island before getting on the cruise ship when I wanted to go to the ship's dr. Never could clairify this.
It has been a month and I am still in a lot of pain and am waiting to see if it will heal or if I will need surgery.

“20 years later- I still loved it”

Just got off the Crown Princess and wanted to share the Dunn River falls experience. I was there 20 years ago and was concerned about the changes. The ship arrived at 10 am and we caught the first cab out to the falls. Paid $15 fare for 2 one way. Just pay it to get there. Saving a few bucks on a shuttle that sits and waits to fill up will cost you time with the crowds. To our joy we were in the first few people there and saw the falls with no one up ahead. There were no other ships that day so I'm sure this helped but within 1/2 hour it was more crowded. We climbed 3 times and loved it. It is still a must see and do in my book.

“Slippert When Wet”

My wife and I were looking forward to climbing the falls, so we made tour plans this past week. we were on a cruise ship but didn't want to go with a big group, so we did it alone. We are both in our 50's and looking at the web pictures it looked quite easy. This was not the case at all. We started at the bottom by the beach and worked our way up alone the side. The route up is tricky. As we looked around to plot our way a native came running up and escorted us through the tough areas to almost the half way point. Then came his line to us. OK, mon I help you out now how much ya gonna help me? Well, I offered him $10.00, but that wasn't enough for him. He wanted twice that for the final leg up the falls. My wife and I had had enough anyway. we weren't looking to get injured on our vacation so we opted to leave at the mid way point. Along the falls I noticed many broken eye glass frames. Past casualties I guess of vacations gone bad.

“You will "Fall" for it!!!”

I visited the Falls on Oct 17,2006. The sight of the falls are absolutely beautiful and stunning. I decided to go with the guided tour thing since the falls looked actually scarier than pictures I've seen on the internet. I made the TERRIBLE mistake of bringing my 7 year old daughter, thinking we would be Okay. She started crying about half way up the falls. My friend (who was also terrified) decided to leave our climbing group and happily took my daughter to the dry side. The rocks are very slippery even with the water shoes. YOU WILL FALL!! If you do not like heights, this would not be fun for you at all. The water rushing against you is very cold, but refreshing as the weather is hot. After falling about 3 different times, I was able to keep up with my group and made it to the top. I must say, the guide helped alot. He guided my group through the rough points (there were many!) and stayed with the straglers. He definately earned his "tip". Overall, this is not for the faint or timid. The falls are very challenging. Do not bring any children under 10, although they told us my daughter would be "fine". It is much to challenging for the little ones.
