“Just as Great as Everyone Said it Was”

Blue Cave Castle

My wife and I just returned from our stay at Blue Cave and we loved it! We stayed in the penthouse with it's 3 private decks and unsurpassed views. It could not have been better. Before arrival I was a little concerned about our room's lack of A/C, but with the breeze and the ceiling fan I was very comfortable.

The staff was very helpful and friendly. Petrona the manager went the extra mile to make sure everything was just right for our stay. Teddy the chef made incredible meals including, rum banana and cinnamon pancakes, lobster thermadore and papaya ice cream. Alicia the waitress was best of all with her great sense of humor. Susan the owner was always friendly and gracious.

Snorkling from the castle was beautiful. We saw large stingrays, eels, and all manner of fish. We had a wonderful time and have already booked our stay for next year.

Okay so this hotel has had rave reviews, so our expectations were skewed. Your experience really depends on your taste, what accomodations you are used to, and your expectations.

To be fair, our expectations were a quiet, relaxing hotel, good service, and a clean place to sleep.

PROS:
We got the penthouse had a great large, private deck with an incredible view of the ocean. The room is nice, with a kitchenette and all amenities.

The hotel chef, Teddy, is amazing....get the Lobster thermador! Your meal is delivered to you by courteous, pleasant staff, and we ate watching the sunset on our quiet, private deck. We loved tanning on our deck, and having the ocean right below. The staff are friendly, and the complimentary Blue Mountain coffee every morning is a treat!

CONS:
The first day we arrived, loud reggae music was played all afternoon until way past midnight, and it resonated throughout the castle, making it almost impossible to sleep. It was Spring Break, but the castle was supposed to be a quiet, relaxing vacation, as confirmed by the hotel. The road outside the castle has no sidewalk, so be careful of crazy Jamaican drivers.

There are bugs in the room, especially at night. We found them on the bed and the floor. There's no air conditioning in the Penthouse, which is surprising given that it is the most expensive room. The bathroom is interesting -- toilet takes a few flushes sometimes. Water pressure is not strong, and water gets everywhere after the shower.

Although it was great to experience a more Jamaican-style accomodation, we were relieved when we checked into a nice all-inclusive, which is more of what we were looking for with the cleaner sheets and Western-style bathrooms.

So, take this review with a grain of salt. If you don't mind roughing it a big with a few bugs, a musty smell, no a/c, and a more Jamaican experience, I highly recommend this hotel.

If you are looking for the cleaner Best Western-style accomodations, look elsewhere.

“Wonderful”

It's just as great as all the other reviewers say. My husband and I came for 4 nights for my birthday. From the moment we got into the van with Troy (from Jamaica Customized vacation Tours, the company BCC reccommends) to the morning we left, everything was perfect.

The location is great for walking to some of the other places on the Cliffs like Pirate's Cave and Rockhouse (we walked to Rick's too, but that took about 30 minutes), there is a little grocery store across the street and Choices (best lobster I have ever had) is a short walk as well.

We ate breakfast at the Castle one day, out on our deck (room number 10) and it was great. The banana pancakes were delicious. We also ate my birthday dinner here - lobster thermador that was amazing and cheap! I also had a chance to sample two of the desserts while here and both were excellent as well!

Our very first night we had some shrimp at the restaurant and ended up chatting and drinking the night away with some of the other friendly guests.

The views and swimming area are really nice, though I didn't get a chance to go in the cave. I brought swimming shoes for climbing on the cliffs, but I really didn't need them.

Our room was nice. It's definately nothing fancy, but it was more than adequate. We had AC (which we only used once), a ceiling fan, fridge, and tv, clean bathroom, queen bed (the bed was a bit hard) and a nice patio with gorgeous views.

Staff was wonderful, views were great, area is beautiful, the food is amazing and the price can't be beat!

This was our seventh time at the Castle and as always it was perfect! Everyone raves about the views, the staff, and the overall ambience and I can only agree. It is the most relaxing place for a holiday. It is quiet and very safe and as someone else said it is easy and inexpensive to get to the beach. We like to go to Cosmo's on the beach where you can get chairs and where there's shade and are not hassled by vendors. One unexpected and totally delightful addition this year is Teddy the onsite chef.. His menu is exceellent and he will also make anything else you might like such as seafood soup or bananas flambee. His prices are reasonable and you can eat in the courtyard or have it brought to your room. I agree that his food is as good as any we've had in Negril, actually better! Thanks again Susan, Petrona, Fuzzy, Teddy and everyone else for a great vacation

“Best Swimming Spot!”

Blue Cave Castle

We extended our trip to Jamaica by a few days, and we made an excellent choice by ending our stay at Blue Cave Castle. We stayed in one room our first 2 nights then got upgraded to the penthouse our last night - what a view!!! We know we'll be requesting the penthouse again, especially for a longer stay (it has a kitchenette).

One of the main reasons why we wanted to avoid Negril was because of the numerous all-inclusive resorts around, but Blue Cave Castle is a pleasant surprise. It's nestled along the cliffs with an amazing cave below that you can swim into. It's a walk to numerous bars, restaurants, stores, etc. The restaurant in the hotel is delicious, but we recommend 3 Dives Jerk Centre too! Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We will be back!
