We just returned from our 2nd trip to SATP and can't say enough great things about it. The property, staff, food, beach - everything is amazing. Our only fear is that more people will discover this little gem and it will be harder to get a reservation!

We were first there for Christmas 2006 with our 18-month old and had a great time then. It was our first experience with an all-inclusive and I think we really lucked out to find SATP on our 1st try. The resort doesn't cater specifically to young families, but the staff are most accommodating and we were able to work around any challenges (i.e. 7:00 pm is a pretty late dinner time for small children, but we managed). The beach is also excellent for kids - clean, soft sand and warm, shallow water.

We weren't planning a winter trip this year, but after some late snow in April, we changed our minds. Unfortunately, we weren't able to book at SATP with such late notice so we thought we would try the sister property in Montego Bay (Sunset Beach Resort). We have a 1-year old as well now and thought it might be OK since it is more family-oriented.

Well, after 2 nights at Sunset Beach we felt really disappointed and missed SATP tremendously. Sunset Beach is too big, busy and not nearly as nice in any respect - we'll do a separate review of that place though. We decided to give SATP a call to see if there was any chance of transferring over. Happily, they were able to accommodate us in one of the newer family suites for all but our last night (we ended up in one of the older, original Negril Cabins but that was fine).

We and our boys had a fantastic time and are so happy that we were able to return. We have heard from people who have stayed at many different all-inclusives and say that none rivals SATP. We love its small size and the attention to detail that affords. The staff all remembered us and seemed genuinely happy to see us again. The food is always excellent and offers enough variety to suit both adventurous adults and picky children. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, and we find the service excellent in all respects. We also really enjoyed meeting the other guests.

We (and our children) are quite seasoned travellers and have rather high standards. We have stayed at some excellent properties in North America, Asia and Europe. As much as we are tempted to try another all inclusive somewhere else, it is difficult to imagine that we would find anything we like as much as SATP. In fact, we are thinking of making this an annual event. That said, we might try a different time of year. The weather was still great but our one minor issue was the sand flies - we are all covered in bites this time (didn't bother us last time in Dec.). We are told they are worse this time of year because it is crab season. Not sure why those correlate, but Easter is supposed to be the best time to go - best weather and fewest bugs.

Many thanks to Mrs. Powell and the rest of the staff for a wonderful vacation - see you all next year!

“Just Perfect”

After researching resorts/hotels for months, I selected SATP based largely on the overwhelmingly positive reviews. The resort suited my criteria perfectly, and we were not disappointed in any way. SATP is absolutely deserving of every compliment received in these reviews!

Accommodations: The tree house-style guest rooms are unique to SATP and when blended with the lush tropical landscaping, the overall effect is intimate and romantic. The room itself was very pretty with a large (in my opinion very comfortable) bed, a writing desk, bench and entertainment armoire. (Tip: if your partner loves the a/c as much as mine, you may need to request extra blankets. The bed is appointed with a sheet and thin coverlet). The front porch was very private, with a daybed and small table. We absolutely loved hanging out there with the birds and tree frogs serenading us morning into night! The bathroom was equally nice with slate floors and shower (large enough for two) and a small closet. I do agree with the reviewer who stated the lighting was low, but this was not really an issue for me. (Tip: there is not an endless supply of hot water-showers may be limited to approx. 10 min). If you tend to overpack as we did, you may find storage space somewhat tight but doable. My only surprise was the coffeemaker. I assumed it would be a coffee pot. However, in the room is a pot to heat water with a selection of instant coffee or tea.

Grounds: Stunning! Shorty and the groundskeepers take a great deal of pride and invest a great deal of time and effort in maintaining the property. We spent hours strolling the property (10 acres!) and photographing the flora and fauna. We thoroughly enjoyed the nature walk with Shorty. (Tip: Shorty is very thorough-our walk lasted about 2.5 hrs. However, you can stroll along for as long as you like). The pool and Bamboo bar were very nice, never crowded. While the pool bar did have a T.V. in the background, the volume was never up while we were there. This is also where the nightly entertainment is held.

Beach: Again, stunning! Although the resort was booked to capacity during our stay, the beach never felt crowded. The chairs and towels are plentiful, as is the shade. We never encountered excessive noise from neighboring resorts. I found it quite tranquil. The beach vendors were not as numerous or aggressive as I was prepared for. We did encounter a few, however a simple "no, thank you" is sufficient. The stroll from the resort to the beach is short and quite worth it! There is a crossing guard stationed near the entrance to help you cross safely.

Food: I found the food to be above average, with a nice balance of more "americanized" offerings and traditional Jamaican dishes. There is a nice variety of fruits, cheeses, breads, meats, pastas, etc. The Lotus Leaf, open four nights a week, is a definate must. The beach grill was fantastic-we spent a lot of time there!

Staff: The icing on the cake! Every face smiling, inquiring about our stay, concerned that we were having a great time, interested in our activities, on property and off. We passed hours in conversation with these wonderful men and women. They are genuine, interesting, hardworking people deserving of the utmost respect.

We absolutely, thoroughly loved and enjoyed the time we spent here. For our first trip to Jamaica, the memories we created are special and will be with us for a lifetime.

“A Jewel!”

This is a absolutely wonderful place to stay! The private villas are beautifully decorated, you feel like you are on a private island. The property is also very nice with great southeast Asian decor. The hotel staff was great and very accomodating. My boyfriend at the time proposed to me and the kitchen and restaurant staff was so helpful in making it a memorable experience. Definitely try the restaurant, it is fantastic. Also try the jerk chicken from the grill on the beach, it is soo good.
A couple things I would bring next time, my own large beach towel, a large drinking cup, and an inflatable raft.
Be careful with the alcoholic drinks they serve them stiff and good! Also don't forget bugspray, they will get you!

I would also recommend a tour of YS Falls and the black river, they are worth the drive.

Bring your own sunscreen, everything is very expensive on the island to buy.

“Ya mon...It was great!”

We recently had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful property. What most, if not all of the reviewers positively observed about the setting, acommodations and staff are absolutely accurate. It is a beautiful resort and just to walk around on the paths and take in the setting, flowers is relaxing in itself. Being that it is a small resort makes it easier to meet people which I believe is one of the benefits of staying at a resort this size. Whether at the beach, pool, bars etc there is always a familar face to strike up a conversation with.
Now the specifics. We thought the tree-top units were wonderful. And we found nothing wrong with the mattress! The only odd thing was the lighting in the bathroom was especially low though not a big deal in the scheme of things.
We did bring along the bug spray, but really didn't even bother using it. Our daughter's friend was the only one that was bother by the bugs, maybe its just genetic!
The staff was wonderful, friendly, helpful, fun to talk too. We made sure to tip generously and it was much appreciate.
We thought the food was OK. And by that, it met our expectations. Some nights were better than others. The buffet presentation was great, though it probably is better if you get there earlier rather than later. We also ate at the restaurant, which is a really lovely setting and should be tried at least once. Most days we just ate at the beach. The jerk chicken served there was great. We did one night eat at the Rockhouse which I highly recommend. You can make a reservation through SATP for this. The restaurant will send a taxi for you.
There is a tennis court which we had basically to ourselves. There is also in the same area, a great gym that is hardly ever used. Top equipment... during the week we there, they had an instructor for classes in stretching etc.
It is a great beach to walk on and after checking out the much larger resorts sharing the Bloody Bay beach, we were so glad to get back to the intimate atomsphere that SATP provides.
For snorkeling, definately go with Andy. You will find him right by the Office of Nature. We also had the pleasure of using Kenny to pick us up at the airport and for touring. Very reliable, safe and knowledgeable driver, highly recommend. Through Kenny, we visited a private school to drop off much needed supplies and were fortunate enough to spend some time with the students in their classroom. It really was a wonderful and unique experience. We also visited Mayfield Falls as well as the Pelican Bar. Also, went horseback riding at Rhodes...swimming with the horses was really fun.
Overall, one the best beach type vacations we ever had and without question look forward to returning to SATP.

“Absolutely Amazing!!!”

Sunset at the Palms

May 2, 2008

I have been back from my 2 week holiday at SATP for just under a week and I am so depressed to be home. This place is AMAZING! So beautiful and peaceful.

The best thing about the holiday was the staff. They are all so hardworking and friendly. A few guys made the holiday extra special:

Greg - this guy has got to be the best bartender ever (even if he does make his drinks incredibly strong!) Your galss/cup is never empty when he is around. He is so lively and always dancing. I will never forget him!

Omar - such a little cutie! Always laughing and smiling. Plus he makes up some fantastic drinks. He made us feel so welcome.

Randie (head chef) - one of the most interesting people I have ever met, I could talk to him for hours. He is such a hard worker - I don't know where he gets his energy from!

Ian (the pool guy) - so funny! Had me laughing most mornings. He is full of advice too and will go out of his way to help you.

Garth - so hyperactive and bubbly. He has a very contagious laugh too!

The grounds are truely beautiful and so well maintained. I loved all the flowers.

The beach is absolutely gorgeous and kept so clean. I didn't go in the sea because I am too scared but my partner enjoyed going for a swim. It is a lot hotter down the beach than what it is by the pool though.

I am a REALLY fussy eater so I struggled with dinner sometimes but my partner liked the food. I just used to fill up on burger and chips at the beach grill! The only critisim that I would have about the dining experience is that it is VERY dark in the dining room and it is hard to see what you are eating. Other than that it was great and the waiters and waitresses are really attentive and helpful.

At night the entertainment did finish rather early but that is when the fun begins!! The barstaff are all the entertainment you need - especially Greg, such a fantastic singer and dancer! Most nights we would be up until 1am (bar closing time) just having a laugh!

There were just a couple of things that I didnt like:

Bugs and Lizards in the room - they are cute when outside but I am too much of a girl to have them in the room when I am asleep. Most nights I had my b/f chasing lizards out of the room.

Room cleaning - almost everyday we would return to our room at about 4pm to get showered and ready for the evening to find that the room hadnt been done. It got kind of annoying but they did come while we was at dinner.

The corner of the bed - it is lethal !! I have the bruises to prove it!

Big Bites - they werent mosquito bites, they were little red ones. I didnt suffer that much but my b/f was covered in them. Didn't really itch but just look ugly!

This was my first visit to Jamaica and it certainly won't be my last. Such a beautiful country and so welcoming. I truely have fallen in love with the place.

Big hi to Greg, Omar, Randie, Ian and Garth - Miss you all LOADS!!!

Love Danie (Pinky) xx
