My wife and I decided to go to Sandals Negril for our honeymoon in 2006. Yes, it is a bit late, seeing that it is 2008, but I have recently "got into" the TripAdvisor website, so I thought I would do my part.
First off: Airport - We landed in Montego Bay and had no problem finding the "Sandals" lounge that you get to hang out in while you wait for your ride to the Sandals resort... The lounge is a really neat idea and we really enjoyed knowing "hey we belong here" and most people are extremely friendly and helpful. One note about the airport: the baggage guys are kind of like hustlers, they are working for tips and make that very clear.
We had a bus ride with other couples, i think all on their honeymoons, to Negril. If i remember correctly it was about a 30-40 minute ride, not too bad, with one stop for beer/bathroom. Some people will enjoy this ride, and other people might not. (those more on the snobby side) :P
When we arrived at Sandals, the welcome was wonderful. We were whisked in, given drinks, and told welcome home. The staff was amazingly friendly! Things were off to a great start.
My wife and I had a 24/7 room server room with an ocean view. the rooms are nice, not crazy 5-star nice, but great considering you are in Jamaica, and we really liked them.
The first couple of days we were there, crowds of people were at 200% party mode, and there were lots of fun parties going on in the pool, with staff keeping the party going.
The beach was beautiful the whole time we were there!
The first place we ate was the bay side restaurant, and we seemed to eat there very often - good quick food and cold beer!
the first nights there was always something neat going on at night, a beach dinner party, or another kind of dinner party, etc. i really enjoyed getting to taste different Jamaican food and found that to be very fun.
Our absolute favorite restaurant, and a must visit, was Kimonos, it was GREAT! Even better than a nice shogun place from our home in Arkansas... hey we have decent sushi here in Arkansas, but we're no San Fran.
The Sundowner was also really fun, and the food was really good - dressing up added to the atmosphere and made a evening like that really fun.
We had no complaints really about the place, it can be a lot of things to a lot of people, a fun party place, or a nice relaxing romantic place, which is hard to achieve!
Every morning i woke up and took a steam at the spa, which cleared my sinus infection, big plus! My wife and I also had a couples massage, and i SWEAR my neck problem VANISHED. So i owe a lot to Sandals Jamaica!
If there are any negatives it would be the bathrooms, which seemed more 3-star or less. the water pressure wasn't any good either, but hey I never have enough water pressure.
Before i forget, the Blue Mountain Coffee is AMAZING. *GREAT* coffee and my wife and i loved having it with breakfast every morning.
Wish i was there right now, but oh well :-)
