“The Perfect Wedding”

Coral Cove Resort

We got married at Coral Cove in November 2007, and we could not recommend it enough. If you are looking for an intimate, beautiful and no-stress experience, this is everything you could dream of. We got a weeklong package, then reserved most of the place for our family and friends (22 in all) for the weekend. We then hauled in an additional 30 people from a variety of resorts in Negril for the actual wedding day – with van transportation arranged by Coral Cove. We had rehearsal and wedding dinners, massages and manicures, a band and a bonfire on the night of the wedding, and more. It all sounds rather complicated now, but the whole thing went off in an easy, relaxed manner, with the gorgeous ocean right before us, unbelievable sunsets each night, and delicious food and drink galore.

We worked in advance with Steve, Kim & Dawn. They were able to soothe us when we got worried about making everything work and give us quickly updated plans as we progressed in making arrangements. They stayed on top of every detail and were more than willing to make the entire trip everything that we wanted it to be.

When traveling to Jamaica in November, be aware that you could easily run into air travel difficulties. Many of our guests, ourselves included, had some trouble. Most greeted adversity with a laugh (and a drink), and Coral Cove was patient, flexible and able to do the necessary quick-thinking for back-up plans.

As for us, Richie picked us up at the airport and took us on the gorgeous back roads from Montego Bay to Little Bay. We stopped at a jerk chicken hut where kids were hanging out on their way home from school. When we arrived we were the only guests and after a few hours of relaxing were served a romantic dinner out on the point of the rock, concrete & coral paths and huts running up into the sea. At the time we thought it was nothing short of awe-inspiring and amazing, but every day seemed to shatter any illusions that we’d yet had the best experiences possible in Jamaica.

Before anyone arrived the next day, we met with Dawn, the amazing wedding planner. She really took care of us. Not only did she anticipate all the essentials and get all of the little details we wanted to come off without a hitch, but she filled in the gaps of the things we didn’t think of. Terrie coordinated things from onsite as well and had an integral hand in making everything work so well.

We stayed in the Doctorbird, but saw every room and spent time in several. The Doctorbird is a smaller room than many of the others, but the 365 degree view, full ocean breeze, private patio and access to an additional shared patio with a stocked (and restocked) bar more than made it the best room there! Even without AC it had to be the coolest.

Cool things about other rooms – the shower in the Marlin is huge and its multiple open air vents make for a really refreshing experience. Several rooms had that kind of shower – it would be worth requesting. The Momma Beach is the biggest suite, with a separate room for a four poster bed – the front room definitely became a hangout space for smaller groups of our large party of wedding guests. The Starbright and the Starlight are also particularly large and gorgeous and have enormous verandas we should have spent more time on.

The food more than bears mentioning. Suffice it to say that many dishes were simply the best any of us had ever had of their kind (including the fried chicken), and others were the kinds of meals that you tell stories about. It is like having a home cooked meal made by professionals at every sitting.

Every effort was made to make the wedding day the most special of our lives including the staff building a frame for the chuppah the groom’s mother made. Donald also enlisted her help weaving plants together for the decorations. Side note here to tell you Donald also took people out snorkeling, on local tours, and refused to allow you to walk about without a drink in your hand – he was wonderful!

The wedding itself was far beyond any semblance of expectation we had. Dawn was perfect, we would have been clueless without her. We were also lucky enough to have the sunset after the ceremony be the most amazing we’ve ever seen. A bonfire on the beach, a reggae band playing and all of our closest friends and family surrounding us. It was the wedding we never dreamed we would have.

Negril feels quite close, twenty to forty minutes, and it was easy for us to find someone to take us in. Still, we wish we’d had more time to hang out in Little Bay, particularly at Uncle Sam’s, and maybe to request a tour of the local school where Donald’s wife teaches. But we plan to go back, so no problem.

Staying at Coral Cove and having our wedding there was the best decision we could have made. We give it the highest of recommendations and plan on returning as often as possible.

    • Liked — The staff and their commitment to our having the time of our lives, the resort's land and beach, the town of Little Bay.
    • Disliked — Hard to say. People had trouble with their cell phones, the water wasn't always hot in all of the rooms. All worth it and expected for the remote location.

“A Little Bit Of Paradise”

Our son was married in Coral Cove this past weekend, and what an incredible experience we all had. The owner, Steve and his son Tyler, were dedicated to good service for their guests and fulfilled every request with a smile. We spent our days snorkeling, swimming and reading in one of the many hammocks. The setting is amazing and the staff eager to make sure our every need was met. I only had to think that I was thirsty and someone was at my side with a fresh fruit smoothie! The meals were prepared with fresh ingredients and I loved the homemade flavor and presentation. The rooms are spacious and amazing. A real island experience. We will be back!

“Great staff, somewhat isolated”

My stepson and his new wife chose Coral Cove for the wedding spot, so we just went with the flow. As this was our first trip to Jamaica our only knowledge of the area is what we had read on Trip Advisor. The roads were about as bad or worse than we expected. Getting to the resort was a real chore. Once there the staff was excellent. They had food waiting for us when we got there and the room had a great view. I found the food to be average to a little below average, though there was always more than enough. The bar was great, and they will make you anything you can think up. All the staff and especially the bartenders and drivers were very personable and friendly. The beach was very pretty, but like much of the island, rocky and hard to get into. The water was very rough the whole time we were there. As others had stated, Coral Cove is in a small village with little to do. If you want to go out be ready for a long drive. At the time of our visit there were only a few air conditioned rooms. Though it was pleasent at night it was qutie warm during the early evening and during the day. We did have an airconditioned room, but the air went out and that was that.
I would like to add that the wedding was wonderful and the staff did a great job with the reception. The resort also helped him get a local band for the music.

“The Jamaican cooks and their five star service”

Coral Cove Resort

5 of 5 stars
New York City

The Jamaican cooks: Ms. Jean, Annette, Sonia, Elaine and their host of young Jamaican girls are the main attraction for this trip. The ladies made you feel like children coming home for the holidays. They scolded me for not eating enough - that's how much care they put into looking after their guests. They are fiery, comical culinary mistresses of Coral Cove. They knew everybody and every single piece of the country. I regret not learning their recipes. The beauty of the resort, the people, the landscape, particularly, the cove, left me little time to spend with Ms. Jean and the ladies, but they knew when to call me in for dinner and they knew to have a guide posted at my door, after I casually asked about nearby attractions, like Bob Marley's house and his mineral bath. There is absolutely NO restaurant in New York that could touch their personable, "no problem" service and their addiction to treating you like family. It was so hard to say goodbye! We made a vow to return to their Jamaican comfort. They made a vow to be there. All other accommodations, which were SUPERIOR, is still but a backdrop to Ms. Jean, her ladies and their Jamaican home.

“Married in Paradise”

When we decided that we needed to get married in a place that was naturally beautiful and away from all of the mess of corporate vacation resorts, we were lucky enough to find Coral Cove. From the first contact we had with the management of Coral Cove, everything was handled perfectly and in a timely manner. They really do have a slice of heaven for people who want to truly relax and see the real Jamaica. The food was wonderful, and frequent. The staff took great care of our every need. Ritchie is most certainly the man, and while in his care a weary traveler will not want for anything. Be sure to go see Uncle Sam in "town" and take a day trip to Negril... The details of our wedding were handled perfectly, and although it was only the two of us I felt throughout the process the same professionalism and attention was given to us as would have been given to a larger party. Overall a great place and we will certainly be making a return trip for an anniversary celebration.
