“Braco Rocks!!”

Grand Lido Braco Resort & Spa

Columbus, Ohio

Our trip started in Columbus, Ohio connecting through Charlotte. I knew we were meeting Jay and Mer in CLT but left that as a surprise for Denise. It was a very teary and emotional reunion. Met EL & Karen in first class and our vacation was underway. Arrived 30 min early and breezed through customs. (5minutes) Checked into Superclubs and were informed the lidosine was waiting for us. A nice surprise. Our room was not quite ready, but we were at the pool eating lamb chops by 12:30pm. The first day was spent enjoying the beautiful Jamaican sunshine, reacquainting with old friends, and making new.

This our fourth visit, we had yet to make it to the beach party. The food was great featuring roasted suckling pig. The entertainment was very good. Braco is now farming out the entertainment, and the Braco EC's are not dancing. Lester thinks it's great. Kemar misses the dancing and Karla terribly.

Thursday was spent doing more of the same. The wind was blowing hard all day. I had a false sense of security with the Jamaican sun. With the wind keeping things cool, I did not reapply sunscreen as often as I should and my shoulders got burnt.:( Sushi with O'neil always our most favorite meal was great. The PJ party was very well attended and things started to blur as Larry so eloquently reminded me the next day. Friday at five we partake in Bruce's champagne party in the hot tub. Knowing we were going to eat late, I supplemented with a flotilla of room service. The street party was much better than I remember in the past. The roast shoulder of veal on the bone and the very large peeled shrimp were my favorite. Denise was the cream in a Jamaican Oreo cookie with Kemar and Carl, and they say I was the double cream.Haha. Give those Jamaican girls credit though, their booty's move like bee's wings.

Just about every day the power would go off for about 2 hours between 12-2:00pm. I later found out this was power rationing by the utilities. Jamaica is growing so fast and they do not have the power resources to keep up. Sat the power was out from 2-6 and interfered with my nap time. I kept both doors open for a beautiful naptime breeze. Saturday night was French, (I think more Mediterranean Continental). We tried to behave as long as we could. We made it through the first course before things started going south. Denise befriended the wedding party of 16. The older, widowed grandpa, Leo mentioned the last time he saw Denise she looked much different. Denise asked if he saw her naked. The wedding party was agased.
Denise did not remember Leo on the power walk that AM. Leo asked how would I do that? Denise said, "just walk to the other side." It turns Braco keeps the dark side pretty hush, hush, Leo had to have his picture with the angels to show his golf buddies. He runs back with his address 10 minutes later and begs me to send him the pictures. Turns out he lives in the same town as my mom in Fla. His golf buddies are probably my moms golf buddies. I may play matchmaker.

Overall, the resort was much more efficient and ran much much smoother. The staff seemed to have a jump in their step. The AN bar was well stocked and if something was needed Wayne ran to the other side to obtain. Merl was greatly missed, but the drink service was much improved.

The AN barbeque was also excellent and well attended 62 I believe. Thanks Leo for all your organizing. My only complaint was this was the first AN barbeque I attended where everybody had there cloths on????? In the spirit of AN it should be nude with a sarong or towel or robe. Or as someone suggested make the dress sexy flirty and then transition into Fantasy. Fantasy also well attended. Kudos to Karen for best dressed. You were smokin' girl! Kelly, that pool table will never be the same. If anyone can keep up with 4 border collies it's you. Mr. personal trainer, I just love you in purple panties. We missed Shirisa. But we still managed to tear the place dooownnn!!

During the toga fashion show Mer went up to two voyeurs at the bar and told them they had to leave. They didn't, so Jay went up and I had his back. Didn't have to say a word.. We just "poked fun" and with a little "prodding" they left.

This is the first time at Braco where the Prude side had such a high occupancy. I heard stories, but could not believe dudes actually wrapped their togas around their board shorts....quite amusing. The competion was fierce with Craig, Jay, Jim, Warren, but I of course walked away with the Mr. Sexy Sultry award. Better luck next year fellas. It was only fitting Tyra received Ms. Sexy sultry as Denise and Warren won last year.

Linda and Jeff, Sorry about the clock radio, Millerlite, and your paint stained cloths complements of Braco maintaince, but bad things happen in threes. What can I say, but it was your turn:( Next year I want to play golf!! Nicole it was fun watching you fall during the raft run. Very graceful! Claire and Den, Glad it didn't rain or towels would have been a big problem. Danna and Woody, great to get to know you guys better. Let's get together in Cinci. Doug, sorry for slamming your head in Volleyball, It was an accident. Deb, If we picked teams and I was the captain in volleyball, I would pick you first. You rock! Bing unless you came up shooting after I left, Brians toys were better. George and Heather, Larry and Pricilla, great to get to know you better. Larry, Next time LSU plays tOSU Buckeyes in Columbus, come on up. I promise you a good time! Mike that really was dried clear fingernail polish on my leg.

Want to thank my new "friends" Cami & Jim, Art & Joy, Nicole & Brett for not waiting for me on the 11:00am Lidosine. We cabed it for $70.00 to MBJ.

Thanks to everyone for making out trip special especially my darling angels and their hubbys.

The Naked Lemon Sisters and their spouses, Den & Mary Jo, Rez & MK, Tim & Jeanne were sorely missed, but see you in SXM in 27 days!!!

The others we missed, Cindy & Gary, Jill & Greg, Rick & Stacey, Carl & Patti, Bud & Dorothy, Mike & Mer, Snoop & Bonnie, Pam & Gary, Rhonda, Greg & Vicki, Rick & Thea, Theresa & Jim, Pat & Chris, Jim & Joyce, John & Jeanne, come back next May!! Braco is back up to the standards you remember!! Attached find info for next year. Rhonda, You can stay with Denise and I on a single supplement. I’ll take the pull out couch or sleep on the beach.

A special thanks to the staff, especially Kemar, Dwayne, Christiana in housekeeping who kept our room immaculate, Lauri Anne, Wayne, Shanoy, and Shirisa for making our trip special!!!

My wife and I have stayed a GLB approximately 15 times. Our most recent trip was a major disappointment compared to our earlier trips. Although the staff is still friendly it was clear that mid-mangement is not providing leadership. Breakfast wait staff lacked the necessary silverware to set any table completely. The housekeeping staff needs to learn how to make a bed. Fitted sheets would help but regular king sheets would also work if the bed was made properly. I don't like sleeping directly on mattress!

We stayed on the A/N side and found that Wayne is doing an excellent job with the bar and food service. He showed the most leadership of any front of the house manager during our stay.

The food was the most disappointing. Selection is way down from previous visits. Only go if you really like chicken ... it is served at all lunch and dinners. The french restaurant was good but I was disappointed to find the they no longer carry a better selection of wines than the main resort. The waiter that serves plates from the top of his head , in the french restaurant needs to be better trained or he should try out for cirque du soleil.

I am sad to say that we wouldn't be going back. Value for the dollar just isn't there any more.

“The skinny on Braco”

Grand Lido Braco Resort & Spa

It all depends what you are looking for in order to review this fairly, therefore the reviews will fluctuate. My situation - Me and my wife want a nice quiet and relaxing vaca away from the kids. Flying in to MoBay get your bags walk to SuperClubs rest area sit there and wait for your bus which travels on the hour I beleive. We were seated right away and brought to the resort about a 45 minute ride. Grad a few beers at the airport for the ride, they have a fridge built in to the resort bus which has water and soda in it. The resort - very relaxing except for the guy who kept on talking on the microphone playing games and giving history lessons. Great for some people but all we wanted to do is drink, sleep and read our books, this was annoying. Room was clean although they forgot to clean it twice but we aren't dirty people so we can let that slide, not too important to us. The food, not too happy. Buffet was ok, same things all the time. Italian rest was not good at all unless you like salty pasta, Japanese place was ok if you have never been to a Hibachi you will probably like it if you are used to them it is a little different, no mustard or ginger dipping sauces but it was ok. The only think we really enjoyed was the French Restaurant, appetizers were an absolute joke so order a few of the same per person, you got like 1 piece of tuna or 2 pieces of cheese so do yourself a favor and order more then one. Make sure to bring long pants and closed toe shoes if you want to get in as well, they will provide a sport jacket if you need it. Lunch, same buffet and same menu at the jerk cafe, I like jerk chicken so I didn't mind having it everyday. All I wanted was a simple shrimp cocktail and never saw it all week. I had to order an all shrimp dinner at the Japanese place. There is things to do, water sports, volleyball, etc so that was cool. Beaches were ok. Honestly we walked down to the au natural part of the resort and it was really nice, they had an awesome cove to swim in, a really nice pool and bar. We though it was nicer down that side. On the standard side the coves weren't really mad for swimming in my opinion. I like to see the clear water and bottom, there was a lot of seaweed and areas where you can't see, we witnessed 2 people getting stung or stepping on sea urchins so if you go wander out have something on your feet. The staff were very polite and helpful. They are not aloud to accept tips..don't believe it actaully the one Scuba guy said he would take me in the afternoon for a dive if I took care of him. But bellboy, room service they all want a little something, no problem if they deserve it, they will just not accept a tip in the major areas where it can be seen. Most of the people staying were older which was kind of nice, nobody bothering you, no noise except for the dj guy, but he is just doing his job. We are in are mid 30's maybe 4 other couples in that bracket. Nice place, fullfilled what we were looking for as far a R & R but food didn't really do it for us. Not sure if we would go back, think we would want to try somewhere different. Not saying we were disappointed and not recommend it just didn't wow us to say we have to go back again. Going home was kinda a mess. We had to leave the hotel at 10 to catch a 2:00 flight, last day was completely wasted! And we thought we might be able to get some deals at the airport, it was brutal! Liquor, their rum was 3 dollars cheaper then back home! Why bother buying it? The reggae cds $22...Come on! Everything went up so much. They even bang you $4 for a red stripe inside their. When we first landed there is a bar outside where you get the bus, that bar charges 1 02 2 bucks so buy a few.

“Lovely!”

Visited Braco for four days, what a lovely, peaceful, incredibly well kept property, the grounds are just fantastic.
The restaurants were all very nice, great service, staff, food, and choices.
Rooms were very clean, basic but large and very comfortable. Bathrooms also basic, but clean with great towels, great water pressure, plenty of hot water. Looked like they were updating some rooms, so maybe some with older bathrooms that need updating are getting just that!
The view from the balcony of our room was fantastic, it was such a peaceful place to vacation.

SO:
Spa- perfect!
Restaurants/ food- great! Wonderful variety. French restaurant was really a nice experience.
Pool/ bar- GREAT!
Staff- couldn't have asked for better, very kind and helpful.
Golf- my boyfriend loved it.
Was very nervous reading all the reviews before I went, but honestly could not have enjoyed anywhere more. This was a wonderful experience. We met quite a few people who go back year after year..... I get it!

Thanks for the recommendation Tom, loved Braco!!!

“Would go back again and again...”

Grand Lido Braco Resort & Spa

My husband and I visited this wonderful resort for the fourth time April 24 to 29. This was our fourth visit. Can't wait until we make our fifth. Not only is the resort itself great but so are the staff. So many - I would say at least half - of the guest are repeat visitors. So many times during our stay I saw staff members going up to guests and hugging them and calling them by name welcoming them back. We had similar experiences. Even when I went to the spa to make an appointment, as soon as I said my name the receptionist said "welcome back". I was so taken back that this woman, who sees so many people each week, would remember me. It is so comforting to see the same people working there. I think that adds to this resorts charm.

With regards to the food, facilities, etc. Food and drinks - excellent - we are not hard to please. The buffet at lunch and breakfast give you a good variety. While breakfast is pretty much the same each day, lunch changes daily. The day we ate lunch at the buffet they had awesome ribs. Victoria Market for dinner is also very good and their menu changes each day too. Ate in the Sushi which was very good and Piacere was good too. Couldn't wait to get back to Nanny's Jerk Pit so we ate there as soon as we arrived. Of course had to go back again another day. The pasta place was just as good as we remembered it. And the beach bar and room service were convenient and good - especially the Nachos and grilled lamb chops!

If I were to give one critic about the bars - it would be nice to have other beer available. I know occasionally they had Miller Lite at the beach bar (but not always) and we had Real Rock in our room the first day. I heard many people asking for something else. Maxine at the pool bar is awesome. Good to talk to and great at making drinks. Love the beach service too.

The rooms - while yes, I do agree the bathrooms need to be updated, the rest was totally fine. Air conditioning was great, bed was a little hard but after a day of partying it did not matter. We had a 2nd floor corner room (226) in building two. Loved sitting on the balcony in the morning reading with a cup of Jamaican coffee.

Entertainment staff does a great job of getting the guest involved. Did not make it to the pajama party but from those that did we heard it was a blast.

The only downside to this resort is the beach. If you are looking for a resort that has a great beach to just lie on - yes, this is it. If you are a water person and want to go into the sea - then this is not it. The water at this resort is rocky. I took water shoes and was able to go in and use one of the floats. But it was pretty empty all week, as others were not prepared and could not go in.

So is this a good resort - yes! I am not sure what all the negativity is about. Having been there a couple times it feels like coming home - and we love it.
