I stayed at Maria's for one night prior to a ferry trip to Anegada. I booked a superior room with a balcony overlooking the harbor and other islands in the distance. The room was large and clean. I could sit on the balcony for hours listening to the waves and watching the traffic come in/out of the harbour. There is no beach, but a small pool area.

It's a short walk from the ferry terminal -- take a right when arriving and keep turning toward the water until you're there. Check in was no problem. If you have an early ferry to catch make sure you check out the night before as the front desk does not open until 7 - 8 am each morning.

The hotel is in the heart of Roadtown, but I didn't venture out. I'm not sure of the walk to area restaurants except for Pusser's which is very close. The restaurant at Maria's was good.

Tortola: Maria's by the Sea

Maria's is a basic motel to rest your head on Tortola before or after a boat trip. There is nothing fancy about the place but it has the basics and is clean. The staff moves fairly slow but that is typical for the islands so it is really no different than anywhere else. There is a restaurant on site which is a nice convenience to grab breakfast or a lunch snack.

The location is right on the water although there is no beach and it is literally across the street from the downtoan Roadtown area so you can walk anywhere for dinner (which is nice considering the cab rides are pretty expensive on Tortola).

If you are looking for a basic, safe, clean place to stay, I would recommend Maria's.

We stayed 2 nights at Maria's before boarding a boat lin February, 2007, and had a very pleasant experience. The hotel was nice and clean, not luxurious, but very adequate. The location was excellent, right in the center of town. Our room had a nice balcony and the view was incredible. We spent several hours just gazing out at the sea. We had dinner at the hotel one night, and the atmosphere of dining on the terrace with the gentlebreezes was wonderful, but sadly, the food was not that good. If you want a nice hotel at a reasonable price for a night or two, I highly recommend this hotel.

Maria's was OK. We stayed there the night before we had to catch a ferry. The room was sparse, with no plugs in the bathroom, no pictures on the walls, not well lit etc. The food at the restaurant there was good, but the service was very slow (even by island standards). It is under renovation, but it is a very short walk to the ferry terminal.
