“Seconds before Hurrican Dean”

Plantation Village Beach Resort

I must say I read soo many of the reviews on tripadvisor regarding the resort. It was too late for me to book another hotel, so I decided to lower my expectations. Please understand that the entire Island suffered from a level 5 hurricane in 2004 and they are still recovering from it. So the Plantation Village Beach Resort has just finished all of their rennovations, and I must say it was a great stay! The rooms where clean and nicely decorated. There were even candles in the rooms! The kitchen came with all of the utilities and amenities you would enjoy at your own home. The balcony was enclosed by a screen which I loved. There are weber grills outside so you can BBQ. Great place to meet other tourist visiting the Cayman Island. The staff is great in planning your excursions. This resort is on the seven mile beach, which is great. You are encouraged to hotel hop becasue there are so many seafood buffets and parties along the beach. You can go to anyone of them. I enjoyed a day at the spa at the Marriott Hotel. I walked down the seven mile strip and into the Marriott and enjoyed my spa day. Lots of great restuarants in the area. Grocery market is near by. We were glad because food is expensive. Thank goodness for our full kitchen.

The second bedroom was two twin beds which they comfortably made them into a king size bed for the couple that came with my husband and I. I would absolutley go back to the Plantation Village Beach resort. I felt so bad for the Island the day we left because so many businesses have just recovered from Hurrican Ivan. Now Hurrican Dean was on his way. I hope that they are safe.
Enjoy the pictures!!!!!

We stayed at the Plantation Village Resort on Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman between 19th May and 1st June.

We had read mixed reviews on trip advisor but went with a personal recommendation and were so glad we did!

Our villa was clean, spacious and had an excellent view of the pool and perfectly landscaped gardens.
Although there was work being done on the new sea wall being built at the front, we were never bothered by this and were glad we had opted for a pool view apartment.

The villa had absolutely everything that one could possibly want whilst on holiday. We have a 4 year old daughter and she was right at home from the first night.

The beach front immediatley in front of Plantation village is alittle stoney however if you walk to your right for 5 minutes you reach beautiful fine white sand.

We snorkelled at Cemetary beach, Smith's Cove and loved building sandcastles at Governers beach.

Rum Point, which is about an hours drive from here is a beautiful place to visit. You can have an excellent lunch/cocktail at the Wreck Bar in Rum Point but you should also try Kaibo Yacht Club a few minutes drive further on. Both have great food and beautiful relaxed views.

It was our first time in Cayman, but we will definately return and most definately stay in the Plantation Village again... for accomodation standard, service and location!!

Go stay there!!!

“Loved the plantation”

We stayed at the Plantation and at first we were frustrated with the work on the seawall, but as we saw it being completed we realized that the Plantation had been hit very hard by the storm and what they were rebuilding was going to be incredible.
The rooms are all remodeled and very clean.
They have Kayaks and we found that this was a great way to make up for the construction on the beach.
GC has alot of construction going on but at least they are rebuilding better than ever.
The new Georgetown will be great with its 2 story shops and restaurants.
We have been to GC 4 times and each time we grow to love it more and now our childern are hooked....
Red Sail 60ft cataraman ride to the stringrays is well worth it...

“Plantation Villiage is still the best value on 7 Mile beach”

I have been going to Grand Cayman every year since 1992 and I have not missed 1 year including the Ivan hurricane year. I have stayed at or visited extensivley every resort on 7 Mile Beach and Plantation Villiage still is one of ther best values on the strip and this is our 3rd time at PV. I have stayed everywhere from the Ritz to the Westin and every where in between but we always seem to end up at PV. I gave it only an OK rating now but this is a temporary rating and the rating will move to "Above Average" once the seawall is completed. I just returned from a trip there 4/21/07-4/28/07 and here is my review. By that way PV is a time share resort/condo resort and the resort as well as some private condo owners rent their condos out by the day. A lot of the bad stories I am hearing about people who have stayed at PV on a time share exchange and were unhappy because daily maid service was not provided is just poor planning on their part. Every time share resort has different policies regarding time share exchanges and PV does not provide daily maid service or towel service with time share exchanges but you can pay for the services if you want them that bad. It is the travelers responsability to ask all these questions before they enter in to an exchange agreement. When we were there last week the weather was just unbelievable and in the high 80's every day with a nice breeze. Ivan really done a number on many resorts and they just spent 5 Mil. in upgrades to the PV resort and opened in the fall of 06 I think. The resort looks great freshly painted with nice landscape. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bath full, pool view room, 2nd floor unit that was 1250 sq. feet that was more than comfortable for 4 adults and was $175.00 per night plus taxes. We really enjoyed the screened in terrace. The villa was totally upgraded with new (not refurbed) cabinets, furniture, and appliances, flooring, dishes, pots pans, ect. We had daily maid service (except Sunday) with fresh towels, soap, ect. The unit was spotlessly clean with great bathrooms and when we did cook dinner in the room we found everything we needed. Every time I have been to Cayman there is always some type of building going on near every resort on the beach. Sometimes it may be a problem and most times it is not. AGAIN ask questions!!! The resort is in the process of having a seawall built in front of the beach front condos and it probably wont be finished until the end of June 07. This in turn has closed down the walk way on the North side of the complex from the pool villas/parking lot to the beach so use the walkway that goes through the middle of the resort to get to the beach. This is probably hard for you to imagine if you have never been there but it is not a big deal really and you can see where this walkway is on the PV web sight under resort layout. The noise during the day is excessive I think with loud trucks going back and forth on the North side of the resort (poolside villas not effected) and the workers hammering and pouding all day. Its kind of funny to see PV guests in front of the resort on the beach in a beach chair reading a book with these loud trucks blarring all day and workers pounding. The worst part about the mess is that they have built a wooden bridge (6 steps each side) that goes over the unfinished seawall and you have to walk over this bridge to get to the beach. With all these problems most guests walked next door and used the Marriotts beach but not their facilities. While we could not hear any noise in our pool side villa from the seawall construction there is construction during the day only going on next door to the poolside units of the Tamarind Bay Resort parking lot but we could not hear it. Speaking of the beach 7 Mile Beach is shaped like a big wide horse shoe and the resorts at each ends of the beach like PV have a more narrow beach that comes and goes with the tide an weather and the resorts in the middle of the beach like at the Ritz have a huge lush wide beach that are the best in Cayman. PV has never had a wide beach as far as I can remember like the resorts in the middle of the beach and I have seen the beach there be any where from 20ft. wide to 80ft. wide depending on the tide/weather and this is also why the rates are better than the resorts in the middle of the beach. Keep in mind that there is always enough beach to pull up a chair and relax. Just sometimes when you get off your chair you will have a 20ft. walk to the water and other times a 50ft walk to the water. Again when the seawall is completed all will be back to normal and the rating will go to AA. In my opinion the condos on the North beach side of the resort should not be rented (except owner/timeshare condos) until the sewall is completed and they should just rent out the poolside villas. Many people we spoke to in a beach side villa on the North side said they were woke up daily at 7AM with the loud trucks and workers pounding. Keep in mind non of this stuff would bother most people though. Also keep in mind that with the private owned condos interior upgrades after the hurricane was decided by each condo owner. Some did the bare minimum and others went all the way but they all meet the requirments of the resort. These condos were built in the early 80's and refurbed in 2006 and they are very nice and clean but guys this is a condo complex and as with any condo resort if you are looking for all the amenities and personal services of the Ritz then thats where you need to go because there is no room service or massages here. Staying here is like staying in your own condo and not a hotel. We never had any real bad problems I can think of except one night at 4AM a drunken 20 year old girl came back to their room and pulled the fire alarm by mistake. I realize this can happen at any resort but he noise was soooo loud I can still hear it in my head and it lasted for about 10 minutes and woke up everyone in the poolside units. The resort management seemed very embarrest when asked about this and we waited to see how they were going to handle this?? We thought for sure a complimentary poolside lunch or even maybe a free night was in order here but we didnt get anything, not even an appology and for this they get a stirke one in my book. To sum it up we had a great time and when the seawall is completed all will be back to normal. The girls in the front office do a great job and will make you feel welcome and at home with thier Monday morning coffee on the beach and Wednesday afternoon cocktail party as well as the free bike and cayak rental. There is also2 large fresh water, clean pools that are very nice. You wont find ANY resort on 7 Mile beach that gives you a condo of this size and calibur that is actually on the beach for $175.00 per night in the low season. This is a nice place to stay and extrememly quiet under normal cirmustances with no party crowds. It is still the best value going! Please feel free to email me for dive info, restuarants, attractions, or other resort reports.
Have a great trip at PV!!!

We spent a week here last week. Weather was beautiful. However, beware! This resort is nothing but a huge pile of dirt. We booked thru Interval International and had no idea of the conditions surrounding the property. First of all, there are very few units which face the ocean and very few units where you can even see, smell or hear the ocean. Our beach consisted of a small piece of sand to the left of the resort. It was possible for only about 5-6 beach chairs to even occupy this space. To get to this small slice of heaven? one had to walk thru mounds of dirt. The hotel did not even carry any chairs down to this small piece of sand. If it were not for my husband being strong and able, there is no way I could have dragged a chair thru all that dirt. It was a very long walk from our room to the "beach".
About our 2 bedroom suite: It was very nice, looked like it had been redone recently. It was clean also. However, we faced the major highway on 7 mile beach on one side of the unti and the loud, busy parking lot on another side of the unit. Of course, we tried to change but were told nothing was available, Nothing for Intervals, I'm sure but there what appeared to be empty units. At any rate, even if they moved us to one of the few ocean front units, we would not have been happy because from early morning to sunset, there were workman hammering, yelling, drillling etc, right outside of these units and piles of dirt in front of them.
We decided we may have been "lucky" to get the road/parking lot units.
This is by far the worse exchange we have made with intervals in 16 years all over the caribbean.
Also, no housekeeping , no clean towels everyday. You were supposed to wash your towels yourself if you needed clean ones. Some vacation!
Anyway, enough complaining but i think people should know what they are getting into here.
We rented a jeep and just left the property everyday. You really need some transportation unless you want to stay in the "concrete jungle" everyday. The Caymans have become much more developed than Aruba! (hard to believe I know)
