“A Wonderful Place for Our Honeymoom”

My husband and I stayed at the Morritt's Tortuga Club & Resort for our honeymoon April 2007 (4/22-4/27) through our timehsare with RCI. The resort is located on the quiet side of the island and is perfect for those who want an intimate environment. The resort is 45 minutes from the airport and the resort provided roundtrip airport transportation for an additional fee. The resort had some activities onsite each night (karioke night, live entertainment, jet skiing, etc). Yes, it was expensive at the store across the street, the restaurant and the gift shops, but that is ANYWHERE on the island. Overall, the resort was clean and the staff were friendly. We will visit this resort again in the future and would recommend this to our friends.

“A very quiet place to relax”

Morritt's Tortuga Club & Resort

We stayed on the 5th floor , a 2 level penthouse facing the ocean with our friends staying in another section facing the pool. Try to get a room facing the ocean has it gives off a wonderful breeze and sets a beautiful picture of paradise.
The beds are nice, but the pull out sofabed were painfully bad and thin. Decent size TV, Kitchen, Dinning and Living room.

The staff were laid back and nice. A quick walk to the food market for supplies, wine and beer store, internet cafe and an english bakery less than 10 minutes. Options to dine out where at the Lighthouse restaurant and another Italian spot about 20 minutes away with car. We skipped eating at the Morritt's restaurant as most folks complain about it.

They have several pools to choose from but swimming in the ocean was warmer and more entertaining. It's only windy when the storms pass thru and can have a strong current when snorkeling.

Much of Morritt's was destroyed by Hurrican Ivan in 2004 so many of the area has been rebuilt and new furniture added.
Morritt's is located on the east end of the Grand Cayman and pretty much isolated from the activity hub located on 7 Mile Beach giving this hotel/club a quiet place to stay. Suggest bringing a car as you can visit other places.

Pros; Quiet place to relax, full ocean view rooms, snorkeling and diving are decent here.
Cons; The sofabeds

In a nutshell, Nice quiet safe place to stay, expect it to be hot, humid and expensive, but that's all of Grand Cayman. We plan to return next year as a family reunion.

“it was ok”

We stayed at Morritt's from 4/12 - 4/17. The resort was just ok. The water was very beautiful, crystal clear. We expected some amazing snorkling right off the beach, it was fair. The restaurants, gift shops, rentals , gas, groceries...pretty much everything was SO EXPENSIVE.... We were on the "quiet" side of the island, which we were fine with... but even if we did want to do anything, we wouldn't be able to afford it. A very weak drink at the bar was $7.50 CI.. $50 for lunch, for 2 people, a half hour jet ski rental $100, kayak $20 etc.... The staff was nice. You get charged for electricty and you are expected to tip the house keeping 5-10% of your nightly fee... she never set foot in our room, only exchanged our towels. I travel a lot, but I usually go to all inclusives, so if that is what you are used to, you probably won't like this place.
pros: Beautiful warm ocean water, hot sun, white sandy beach, staff is friendly, grounds are pretty and clean, safe. shuffleboard!, nice pools.
cons: everything is SO expensive and you get charged for everything, nothing to do, weak drinks, very windy, big waves

“Peaceful Paradise”

Morritt's Tortuga Club & Resort

Apr 14, 2008
7/7 found this review helpful

We went to Morritts the middle of July for our honeymoon. They upgraded us to an ocean front because of that, which made the entire trip. I must say it was wonderful. We had a ocean front balcony on the the 4th floor. We pretty much had the beach to ourselves everyday. It was amazing. The beach was a bit rocky in parts and also even more rocky in certain parts of the ocean but we went there every day, and barely went to the pool. We literally were the only people on our side of the beach several days we were there. The weather was great. Too hot to sit in the sun without shade for a long time, but it hardly rained, only a few storms at night.

The downside to this place is it was extremely expensive to eat there and drink, but so is everywhere in Grand Cayman. We ended up going to the local grocery store that is a few feet away and got somet things to cook for dinner a few nights. We also got some beer and wine next door. I loved that we had our own little kitchen. We ate breakfast in every day except one. The breakfast buffe there was okay.

We went next door to get some alcohol. A case of beer was over $50.00!! Wine wasn't quite as bad, but it still was cheaper than buying our drinks at the pool every day.

This trip was exactly what we were hoping for, a peaceful, relaxing honeymoon. There wasn't much night life but we weren't really looking for that. They did have a karaoka night which was fun and we played beer pong one day at the pool which was also fun. We went out to dinner a few nights...Light House, Portofino. Both good, nothing spectacular, definitely overpriced . Rum Point is gorgeous and not to be missed and definitely go to Sting Ray city on 7 mile beach.

We stayed at the Westin on the other side (7 mile) for a few days after Morritts and it was not the same. We loved Morritts, much more and the West side is it's own little peace of paradise.
I highly recommend it and if you can get an ocean front, it's well worth it. The view couldn't be beat. It was gorgeous.

Bottom line if you're looking to party and go crazy this isn't the place for you. If you're looking for a relaxing vacation this is the place to go. It's not the Ritz but who needs it when you're in paradise.

I just got home from one week on Grand Cayman. My family and I stayed on the East End at Morritt's Tortuga Club. This spot was fantastic. We did some great snorkling just steps from our room. There are several pools here, the Grand Pool (an infinity pool) was just great. One of my favorite parts of this resort was Mimi's Dock Bar. Very friendly bartenders, excellent service and great drinks were had each day (thanks to Alan and Dave). There were some fun activities held on the dock a few nights. Also, I just could not get enough of the delicious and well priced Blackened Mahi Mahi Sandwich. Just fantastic! You will not be disappointed here.
