“Fabulous Vacation!”

Aqua Bay Club

We had a wonderful time at this resort. The anemities were wonderful.
The condo was modern, clean, special. The hostess, Deena, was great, as was the staff. Very helpful. The snorkeling was great right in front of the resort; we did not have to go anywhere else. We recommend water shoes, as it is difficult to enter the water because of the coral. The view was spectacular and it was fun to watch the passing iguanas/lizards. Of course it is very hot this time of year, but we managed to have fun anyway. You are either in the room or the water. We would recommend a rent-a-car to get around, and there is an adequate grocery not far from the hotel. The Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Garden was beautiful (hot, too!), but we did not see the Turtle Farm because of the expense ($60 a pop!). Things are a little pricey on the island, but, hey, it's a vacation! Shopping is not the greatest in town, but it depends what yoiu are looking for. Go when there are no cruise ships in port! Wonderful and
relaxing vacation.

“SUPERB Aqua Bay Club!”

The Aqua Bay Club is a great value and a spectacular place to stay. I hesitate to write this review out of fear it won't be available the next time we want to stay here in unit 21! My sister and nephew always stay in ABC, but I haven't had the pleasure until now. I was first introduced to this island paradise in 1980 and returned many, many times but did not know about the ABC until my family introduced me to it. I absolutely love it, and now can't imagine staying elsewhere. Our unit is so beautifully done . . . to perfection . . .both in furnishings and cleanliness! The bathrooms rival the best of the best and have given me ideas for a property I own. The warm hospitality and attention to detail is unparalled. This one's a treasure! Joan B., Austin, TX USA

“Dining in Cayman”

Spent week of Aug 4-11. Stayed at Aqua Beach Club - loved it. Dining is VERY expensive. We ate breakfast at the condo and some lunches. 2 adults, 2 teenage girls

We ate at:
Eats Cafe - just okay (3 fish, chicken stir-fry, 5 sodas: $80)

Calypso Grill (had dessert only - best Sticky Toffee Pudding - EVER!!!)

Aqua Beach restaurant - good soup, would skip rest next time (2 quesadillas, 3 onion soups, buffalo chicken wrap, cheeseburger, 1 beer $74)

The Grand Old House - best meal and setting on island (4 fish dinners, a bottle of wine, 3 coffee & 4 desserts: $340)

Casanova's - fun, Italian place, great food (3 spaghetti & meatballs w/pink sauce, filet, garlic bread, 2 beers, 2 wine, 2 champagne: $220) Heard ravioli is amazing.

Decker's - Great swordfish (2 swordfish, 1 salad, 2 wine, $105)

Ragazzi -GREAT pizza (4 pizzas, 4 salads, 1 wine: $116)

Breezes - casual, good fish-and-chips lunch downtown -(2 fish and chips, chicken sand, pasta & chicken, 4 cocktails $106)

Ferdinand's at the Westin -casual lunch (2 burgers, 2 sandwiches, 2 sodas: $45)

The Wreck Bar at Rum Point -was okay, but what are your options? (Cheeseburger, chicken sand, fish sand, 1 soda: $44)

Margaritaville -we knew better, but had snack time cravings and one teen who skipped lunch and was "starving" (quesadilla, pasta, 4 frozen drinks: $75)

Cafe del Sol (lattes and great homemade apple pie)

Chicken Chicken (Teenagers ate on beach at condo with all of the condo kids one night - loved it)

Did a Catamaran snorkle/sail with Red Sail on Friday when no cruise ships were in. Had our choice of reefs. Good value if you don't visit the on-board bar. $9 for a 12 oz rum & juice. We ran a tab so were quite surprised when we paid out at the end of the sail.

“Disappointed”

Aqua Bay Club

We visited Grand Cayman in June and b/c of all the great reviews settled on Aqua Bay Club. We were in unit 22 a king and two twins. The noise from the road was so bad all night long that even with ear plugs I heard the sirens and traffic. The rooms were tiny with no luggage racks and there was about 12 minutes of hot water for a family of four to shower after a day at the beach! Needless to say, we ran out of hot water every time we showered unless we staggered the showers (that took a while for the hot water tank to recover), The pool is nice but gets crowded with a few families at the same time and although the ocean is beautiful it was extremely rocky and a bit tough for my 9 year old to get into easily even with water shoes. Deena was very nice and offered us a different room which would put the kids near the street ( not a good solution...b/c I didn't want my kids sleep deprived), to close the hurricane shutter on the window (which would give us no light ), or to try a room that would be lower and behind the office so the road noise would be blocked..perhaps that would have worked but we opted to move to the Westin. Unit 22 could use some updating...the furniture in the living room was stained and there was a balcony with plastic covered seats...very sticky and kind of smelly! The girls room was small, stains on bedcover, beds that squeaked and wobbled, and drawers that were very dificult to open and close. I am surprised no one wrote about the noise issue which was really severe. Maybe for an expensive Island like Grand Cayman this is the best you can do at this price...but a hot shower and a restful sleep are two basic things I need on my vacation. The island itself is quite pretty.. and although the Westin was significantly more expensive, the beach was nicer and provided a great base for our family.

“Another Wonderful Visit at ABC”

Aqua Bay Club

We just returned from our second visit to Aqua Bay Club and really enjoyed everything! Obviously, our first visit went well too or we would not have returned.

Our condo (unit 7) was very clean and well furnished. Unit 7 is a ground floor walk out with easy access to the pool and beach. Units 8 through 22 (there is no # 13) offer better views of the ocean but require a 1 minute walk around the building to reach the water. Previously we stayed in unit 21 and honestly we're not sure what we liked better, the improved view from the third floor or the easy access of the ground floor.

The 2 bedroom units offer plenty of space for four adults or a family of 4. Some units have king beds and some offer twin beds. Ask Deena in the office what's available and she can direct you to the best unit for you.

The pool is big enough for everyone to enjoy and the beach area is clean. There are a lot of rocks at the water line so getting into or out of the ocean can be a bit tricky but the rest of the beach is soft sand (great for morning walks) and the rocks clear-up after you swim out a little bit.

Cemetery Reef is a short walk (5 minutes) to the north for excellent snorkeling. Take some fish food along and you have a lot of fish swim along with you. We also saw a sea turtle here. Two years ago we saw a ray. In June / July, the ocean is very warm and you can snorkel as long as you want without getting cold.

If you go into town, there is great snorkeling at Eden Rock (right in downtown) next to Paradise By the Sea restaurant. Be sure to get a drink and a meal after you swim!

ABC is far enough north on Seven Mile Beach to keep things quiet, even when there are 4 cruise ships in port. There is a Foster's grocery store just up the road for easy access to food. Also, there is a service on the island (BKM Limited) that will stock your condo with food prior to your arrival. The service is a little expensive but could be worth it if you are arriving late in the day or just hate the idea of going to the store first thing. ABC can help you contact the service or Google for info.

ABC is casual and quiet. There is very little noise after dark. During both our visits (both in June or July) ABC was about half full with mostly families. On both visits we found all the other guests to be friendly. Usually everyone hangs out at the pool and shares ideas about places to eat or things to do. Really neat atmosphere.

Finally, the staff at ABC is really great. We booked direct with them and had no issues. Deena will gladly work with you should you have any special requests.

Have fun!
