“Great place to get married”

We have been to Bequia several times but this was the first time we did´nt stay on a yacht. We stayed with George and Val in village appartments and absolutely loved it. We miss George,Val and Martha and Clifford very much. We came here to get married and Martha - the housekeeper - did a great job. Almost everyday we found bourgonvilla in our newly made bed - very romantic. And perfect when you are on a honeymoon

George and Val was very helpfull when we had problems with our computer and made it easy for us to stay in touch with all the people we left back home.

George and Val started out hosts but ended up being friends.
We will be back .

Love from Anna and Tommy

We have stayed at the Village Apartments twice, and plan to return soon. The apartments are several small, mostly seperate buildings on a hillside only minutes from Amiralty Bay and the restaurant/shopping area by foot. We have stayed at #5 and #1. #5 is a seperate building, one bedroom, located lowest on the hill with the least restricted view of the bay and the beautilul sailboats that constantly moor there. I belive that the apartment just above it is #6, regardless it is otherwise identical ti #5. #1 is a two bedroom apartment located above another apartment in the same building.
George and Val Whitney, the proprietors, are very personable and helpful. The rates are extremely reasonable, especially for the privacy and roominess of the apartments. All apartments have several rooms-one or two bedrooms, a living room with cable TV, a kitchen, bathroom and a balcony looking over the bay. All kitchens are complete with stove, pots and pans, microwave, glasses, coffee maker, ect. The apartments are not directly on the water but only a few hundred feet away.
It is rather difficult to get to Bequia. We have gone 2 ways. 1) Fly to Barbados on a major airline and then to St. Vincent on a smaller Caribbean Airline, such as Liat or Caribbean Star. Then take the 1 hour ferry to Bequia. The ferry schedule varies each day but they generally go back and forth several times a day, the latest ferry being around 5:00pm. You may have to overnight on St. Vincent. Or 2) Fly to San Juan and the to St. Vincent dircetly on Caribbean Sun Airlines. Again, possible overnight on St. Vincent (SVD).
Once you get to Bequia, sit back and relax. The pace is slow. The Eastern Caribbean Dollar is around 2.8 to US$ so things are inexpensive. Restaurants (within walking distance) are small and modest. No casinos here. Just a small relaxing island. Good diving and sailing.
Check out their website. Just put "Village Apartments Bequia" in a seach engine.

“Green Flash Sunsets”

The Village Apartments continue to be well-furnished and maintained. Val and George Whitney, the owners/operators, are the perfect hosts. Rest and relaxation are assured in the peaceful surroundings and the view of Admiralty Bay with its turquoise waters and yachts at anchor is hard to beat. The green flash as the sun sets is a frequent occurence. That's why I return each year to enjoy a sundowner and swim in the pristine waters!

“Great Place”

We recently stayed at Village Apartments for ten nights in March 2005. We stayed in Apt 5, which had a nice view of Admiralty Bay - somewhat obstructed by trees, but enough to see the water, sailboats and beautiful sunsets. It's a great location, on the side of a hill and just a 1 minute walk down to the waterfront walkway that connects all of the restuarants. Val and George are excellent hosts and were always willing to answer our questions about how to get here and there. Rooms are very nice with regular maid service and towels. Set ups vary depending on which apt you select. Ours had a small kitchen, a small living area (high ceilings) with the eating table and cable tv, a separate bedroom and bathroom. There was also a nice balcony with enough room for several people to sit and enjoy the views. One thing. Bequia has no public supply of water. All water is collected from rainfall. So, use water sparingly. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. See photos
